AIBU to be glad the heat wave hasn’t reached the UK

I am so glad it’s not 37c here as it is in Europe. I love this weather, 22c is enough for me. My husbands moaning we haven’t had a summer, I love this weather, I can sleep at night, I can go to work without getting all sweaty, I can walk my dogs without worrying of them dying of heat stroke. Anyone else like this weather?

The west of Ireland is a comfortable 23 degrees right now, with a light breeze. Utterly perfect - speaking as someone who hates the heat!

Electric is really expensive where we are, I think that's what stops a lot of people adding air con. The winter heating bill is already high, without adding a summer one into the equation.

schnubbins · 27/06/2019 19:30

Well houses in Germany are well built and insulated. They keep out the cold and the heat .We lived in Northern California and spent more on heating our house in winter than we ever do here in southern Germany where the temps in winter can go down to minus 20 (becoming more seldom in the last few years).
But the fear of draught is so prevalent. Apparently ,also thing in many eastern European countries and Baltic States.Walking around barefoot also causes all sorts of illnesses. It's hilarious!
Girls in the UK walking around half naked in Winter is a huge topic of discussion here with many that have visited'.Different strokes for different folks' I would say .Makes us all more interesting.

Yes we open all the windows up first thing then batten down the hatches.
I go down into our cellar if I'm really overheated as it's always lovely and cool down there.

Dowser · 27/06/2019 19:56

It’s been 24 in N Yorks today
Bloody lovely
Ten degrees more than yesterday
🙏🏻

ThisIsMyID · 27/06/2019 19:59

I'm in France. It was 39 today. I'm not enjoying it 🙈. I'm currently getting up at 5 every day to open windows wide to let some cool air in. We can't do it at night because it's still so hot and the mozzies come in.

Uptheshard · 27/06/2019 20:01

Yes its shit in the heat.. in italy currently 39. When i got in car after work today the temp said 45. Makes you feel quite sick... dizzy... god we brits weren't designed for this !!!!

netflixlove · 27/06/2019 20:02

nicecuppaforme · 27/06/2019 20:03

LimeKiwi · 27/06/2019 20:04

20 here at the moment and according to the weather it's going to hit 29 on Saturday Shock (Northerner)
Looks like I'm going to be sun cream shopping tomorrow then Grin

Pregnant, 40 plus degrees, Australia.

Thank god we returned to Britain.

I find anything over 27 degrees saps my energy. I actually spend more time outdoors in the UK than I ever did in Oz. Once the temps started climbing, everyone stuck to the malls or air-conditioned softplay. And then it was Slip Slop Slap which made sense but really was such a faff if you had kids.

Benjispruce · 27/06/2019 22:00

furry is that Clew Bay,Mayo ? Was there last summer and it looks familiar.

GabsAlot · 29/06/2019 11:50

@gin96 thinking of you today!

thethethethethe · 29/06/2019 12:37

We had Germans staying recently. Petrified of illness. 12 year old had a tiny sniffle and was scared to go swimming in case their state of health worsened.

ColaFreezePop · 29/06/2019 12:42

Outside it's 30 Celsius but inside it's 21 Celsius (in my East facing rooms with curtains drawn )

Bluerussian · 29/06/2019 12:42

I think the heatwave has hit us. It was warm all week, very pleasant, but today it is BOILING.

ColaFreezePop · 29/06/2019 12:46

The heat wave in the UK is apparent for a maximum of 2 days so far.

ememem84 · 29/06/2019 12:53

30 here in jersey yesterday. 27 today. 35+6 weeks pregnant. Not happy. Uncomfortable because almost there, uncomfortable with the heat. Hating every second. Ordinarily I’d be outside lounging about in the sun. Today I just want to dry at Dhs suggestion we go to the beach

BlamesFartsOnTheNeighbour · 29/06/2019 12:54

I'm in France. Some places have air con. Some places don't. HTH.

IncrediblySadToo · 29/06/2019 13:32

Central South East if England all weather reports say its 32deg here, but obviously they’re measuring that in the shade on top of a hill with a breeze I should have bought the. Barometer I was looking at in the week

I like the heat when the conditions are right - low humidity, living sonwhere that looking hot isn’t an issue and preferably some kind of natural place to at least dip your feet if not swim. An old house with thick stone walls and s decent shower and in good here...not so much

I need to go out to top up on some but D but it’s such a fafff here licking everything up and finding somewhere to go that’s nice...in France /Spain I just close the front door (leaving shutters/windows as they are) and you’re already somewhere lovely!

It’s 39 in my fav French village today, but I’d rather be there!

thethethethethe · 29/06/2019 15:29

In Scotland it's 17 degrees next week. Very happy about that. We have visitors from Spain, and they may enjoy the temperature drop of almost 20 degrees.

gotmychocolateimgood · 29/06/2019 15:33

It's 27 degrees here (UK) and its definitely hot enough!

The80sweregreat · 29/06/2019 16:07

Its boiling in Essex and I'm not happy today.

MissConductUS · 29/06/2019 16:14

31 and a lovely early summer day in New York! I think I'll do some gardening.

pinkhousesarebest · 29/06/2019 16:27

I'm in France. Primary school teacher with none of the air con of which you speak. My dd will sit two days of national exams ( which have already been postponed once) in excruciating temperatures in a boiling room. It is horrendous.
