Getting pregnant at age 47, chance is so negligible that I don't need to bother with the Map?

DH and I had a quickie this AM. Condom was empty but he definitely orgasmed. It was stuck inside me Blush so he thinks the contents tipped out.

My super market chemist has run out of the morning after pill and the nearest one is a 15 minute drive away. I cba to go and spend £35 for nothing really and I'm exhausted after a 6 mile walk. I've also been on quite strong antibiotics for the last two weeks so not sure it will even work?

AIBU to think I don't need to worry too much at my age. DH is 50. We have 4 DC already. My periods are spacing further apart which indicates menopause approaching.

WWYD?

I wouldn’t risk it. But you’ve got 72 hours so you can go on Monday .

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/06/2019 19:12

How easily did you get pregnant previously?

Mamamooligans · 15/06/2019 19:15

Go for the 15 minute drive! Thats not far at all. The chances may be low, but imagine if it did happen, strangers in the supermarket, cafes etc will be cooing of your new grandchild and saying how lovely it is to spend time with nana.
You may think odds of getting pregnant are low anyway, but there is a chance, so worth the 15 min drive and the £35!

Bluerussian · 15/06/2019 19:16

Get the morning after pill!!! It's not worth the risk.

BIWI · 15/06/2019 19:19

Either you're a journo looking for a story

or

You secretly want DC5

If neither of the above, get off your arse and go and drive the 15 minutes to get the MAP

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 15/06/2019 19:19

I do wonder if some of these children born a few generations back to much older mums were actually grandchildren born to unmarried teenagers and covered up.. it did happen.
But no OP, I wouldn’t take the risk if you definitely don’t want to be pregnant.

CarolinePooter · 15/06/2019 19:25

Send your husband to the pharmacy!

6079SmithW · 15/06/2019 19:31

Unless you could cope with either DC5 or having an abortion I would definitely get MAP. I am on monthly Prostap injections to keep my body in chemical menopause and it was stressed to me that I still absolutely need to use contraception because of the possibility of pregnancy during menopause. Don't take the risk!

LuckyLou7 · 15/06/2019 19:32

I had a pregnancy scare at 43, 4 DC, last one born in 1994, and the sheer panic and fear at 'starting all over again' was terrible. I wasn't pregnant, thank goodness, but people can and do get pregnant in their 40's and even early 50's. If you're menstruating, you're a potential mother.

RedPink · 15/06/2019 19:34

I’d take the chance personally. It’s such a teeny chance of getting pregnant plus I would be ok to have an abortion if I ended up needing one.

I would get a MAP if I were younger but not at 48.

LuckyLou7 · 15/06/2019 19:37

That's the first time I've ever heard that particular theory. My Auntie Edith had her 4th child when she was 46 and her oldest daughter was 17...hmm.

eddielizzard · 15/06/2019 19:37

You know your body starts releasing more than one egg when you're approaching menopause, so likelihood of twins or even triplets greater. 6 or 7 kids anyone?

Aquamarine1029 · 15/06/2019 19:38

Yes, it did happen, but not in my great grandmother's cases. She was pregnant and delivered at 50, and pregnant at the same time as her eldest daughter who was my grandmother.

crazyasafox · 15/06/2019 19:39

@TooOldForAllThatShit

OMG yes, get the MAP. DO NOT RISK IT.

Who the F wants a baby at FORTY SEVEN?

No! No! And NO again! For sooooooooooooooo many reasons. I think you know what they are!

I think that did happen sure, but there were 2 over 45 births in my family, and no teenagers to pin it on!

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/06/2019 19:51

I'm sure I've read somewhere that just before you start going through the menopause you have a surge in fertility.

floraloctopus · 15/06/2019 19:51

Well if you CBA to go to the chemist and get the MAP then it sounds to me like you are happy if you get pregnant.

QueSera · 15/06/2019 20:00

Of course there's a chance of pregnancy.
Seriously, a 15-minute drive and £35 puts you off getting the MAP? Slightly less inconvenience than a baby or an abortion.

Parttimewasteoftime · 15/06/2019 20:00

You have four DC already so obviously fertilite I wouldn't risk it OP

ComeAndDance · 15/06/2019 20:00

I wouldn’t as the chances are very low but then I would be clear that I would have a termination if I ever was.

How confortable would you be with a termination (or a baby)?

chipsandgin · 15/06/2019 20:08

If you’ve had four already & therefore very fertile & haven’t had any menopausal symptoms I’d definitely not take the risk unless you’re ready for number five!?

A friend of mine had a boy at 49 - he has Down’s syndrome (which has a higher probability of occurring when you have a baby later in life), he is totally adored & very gorgeous, she doesn’t regret a thing & is very involved in the campaigns to remove the stigma of Downs Syndrome but it is a massive responsibility for the family & his siblings as it is likely they will be involved in his care as everyone grows older. Also just having a baby at that age for me isn’t something I’d be up for (I’m a similar age to you OP), I’m so glad the nappies and sleepless nights are a thing of the past!

Definitely worth a mission to avoid potential pregnancy unless it’s something you are happy to go ahead with regardless of the outcome..

PeoniesarePink · 15/06/2019 20:09

OMG such drama. You have less than a 1% chance of a pregnancy using your own eggs aged 45. www.healthline.com/health/menopause/pregnancy#1

I wouldn't be worried at all. (And I'm 48).

crazyasafox · 15/06/2019 20:09

35 would be the upper age limit for me.
