Getting pregnant at age 47, chance is so negligible that I don't need to bother with the Map?

DH and I had a quickie this AM. Condom was empty but he definitely orgasmed. It was stuck inside me Blush so he thinks the contents tipped out.

My super market chemist has run out of the morning after pill and the nearest one is a 15 minute drive away. I cba to go and spend £35 for nothing really and I'm exhausted after a 6 mile walk. I've also been on quite strong antibiotics for the last two weeks so not sure it will even work?

AIBU to think I don't need to worry too much at my age. DH is 50. We have 4 DC already. My periods are spacing further apart which indicates menopause approaching.

WWYD?

Antibiotics don’t affect the MAP, if you’ve had a period in the last year (2 years really at your age) you’re not post menopausal and should assume you could be fertile. Obviously less likely than 10 or 20 years ago but also much higher rate of fetal anomalies / miscarriage.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/06/2019 18:37

My friend had a similar situation. She risked it. Her surprise son is now 9. She's found it VERY hard work this time round. Her older kids were teen-agers by the time surprise baby was born.

scaevola · 15/06/2019 18:41

You can't have it both ways. You're using contraception because you know there's a risk. Under 50, you still need contraception unless you have not had a period for two years. Because although considerably less likely than for a younger woman, it's definitely still possible.

LittleDoritt · 15/06/2019 18:41

I took it the other day and it was £16, not £35 if that sways you at all! I wasn't willing to risk it.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 15/06/2019 18:43

My husband's grandfather was born to a 50yo woman who'd already raised 8 children to adulthood.

15mins. £35. Peace of mind. Priceless.

Unless you want another child and to be still talking about GCSEs when you're 62...?

NancyPickford · 15/06/2019 18:45

A 15 minute drive is NOTHING! My mum was born when her mum was nearly 50 and whose periods had stopped for six months prior. Gran thought 'that side of things was all over for her' and so took the risk.

tuxedocatsintophats · 15/06/2019 18:47

It's not likely but I'd still not risk it.

Queenbetty · 15/06/2019 18:47

Am I the only one wondering how a baby can be two months younger than its sibling?

TeachesOfPeaches · 15/06/2019 18:49

My NCT leader had a surprise pregnancy at 48 even though she already had 3 teenage boys

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/06/2019 18:49

You're honestly willing to risk an unplanned pregnancy at 47 for the sake of a 15 minute drive?? If you have a baby he/she will probably still be living at home when you're 70...15 minutes of inconvenience is nothing compared to that surely!

ShallICompareTheeToASummersDay · 15/06/2019 18:51

Queenbetty two months younger than his niece Shock

Valanice1989 · 15/06/2019 18:51

OP, my great aunt had her first child at the age of 46. A colleague of mine was also born to a 46-year-old mum. Both of them were born in the days before IVF, so they were definitely conceived naturally. It does happen.

Yes, the chances of you being pregnant are low. But the chances of crashing your car are low - that doesn't mean seatbelts are a waste of time. For the sake of £35 and a 15-minute drive, it's worth it.

Rachelle11 · 15/06/2019 18:51

@Queenbetty. They aren't siblings. The baby was her mother's uncle. The grandmother and daughter were pregnant at the same time.

Congratulations...
Sod’s law

MammaMia19 · 15/06/2019 18:53

You can order it online with next day delivery. There’s a brand you can take up to 5 days after. Google it! Also it costs £15-17 where I am, £35 is crazy! I had to take one the other week, i was confident in my cycle I wouldn’t get pregnant but really didn’t fancy the risk! Sod’s law and all that, better safe than sorry

Cherrysoup · 15/06/2019 18:53

Tell that to my colleague who had a surprise baby aged 49!

herecomesthsun · 15/06/2019 18:53

I had a much wanted baby 2 months before my 48th birthday. Our neighbour down the road had 1 at 46 and 1 at 48.

VerbenaGirl · 15/06/2019 18:57

Go get the MAP!

SoupDragon · 15/06/2019 18:57

Well, I imagine the chance is low but it's not zero! Do you want another baby?

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 15/06/2019 18:58

It would be £35 well spent

AgentJohnson · 15/06/2019 18:58

A whole 15 minute drive 😱. At your age you should really know better but if you have to ask, then yes get the damn MAP!

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 15/06/2019 18:58

How old are your DCs? Lots of women get pregnant in their late 40s , so if you definitely do not want another DCc get to the chemist.

MamaOfBothTeams · 15/06/2019 19:01

£35 or face abortion/another baby if you are pregnant

I wouldn't risk it but your call, depends if you want another baby

Teacakeandalatte · 15/06/2019 19:04

Sod's law says if you wanted to get pregnant at 47 you wouldnt, but if you dont want to you might.

KitKat1985 · 15/06/2019 19:05

I know someone who got pregnant at 47 after years of fertility problems....
