Getting pregnant at age 47, chance is so negligible that I don't need to bother with the Map?

DH and I had a quickie this AM. Condom was empty but he definitely orgasmed. It was stuck inside me Blush so he thinks the contents tipped out.

My super market chemist has run out of the morning after pill and the nearest one is a 15 minute drive away. I cba to go and spend £35 for nothing really and I'm exhausted after a 6 mile walk. I've also been on quite strong antibiotics for the last two weeks so not sure it will even work?

AIBU to think I don't need to worry too much at my age. DH is 50. We have 4 DC already. My periods are spacing further apart which indicates menopause approaching.

WWYD?

I would not take the risk.

YouKidsKeepMeYoung · 15/06/2019 18:17

Congratulations then!

Wildorchidz · 15/06/2019 18:17

I would prefer to spend £35 and drive a few miles than be faced with an unplanned pregnancy at 47.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/06/2019 18:18

It does still happen OP

CatstorTroy · 15/06/2019 18:18

Sods law says things will not end well. But the likely good is minimal I'd say
Depends how you'd deal with it if God forbid it did happen.

StrippingTheVelvet · 15/06/2019 18:19

Even the slimmest chance is still a chance. I wouldn't risk it! Send him though Grin

InterchangeableEmma · 15/06/2019 18:20

I'd not dare risk it myself. No way

Aquamarine1029 · 15/06/2019 18:22

My great grandmother's periods had ended for several months, yet she got pregnant at 49 and had my great uncle at 50. He is two years younger than my mum. I wouldn't risk it.

KnittingSister · 15/06/2019 18:23

How much does it cost to bring up a child these days? About £150,000 isn't it?...

Aquamarine1029 · 15/06/2019 18:23

Sorry, two MONTHS younger than my mum.

Redcrayons · 15/06/2019 18:23

Wouldn't risk it.
I would 1000% not want to pregnant.

SweetMarmalade · 15/06/2019 18:24

A 15 minute drive isn’t far.

Go to the chemist!

Chilledout11 · 15/06/2019 18:25

You will be having to take on more than a 15 min drive if you are pregnant.

toriathet · 15/06/2019 18:26

come and tell my 52 y old neighbor who had natural twins and a natural pregnancy last nov your to old to catch, she didnt know till she was 5 months as her periods stopped 3 years before

also i got pregnant twice even though ive never had a period

katseyes7 · 15/06/2019 18:26

l got pregnant at 52. l was perimenopausal, and OH had had treatment for testicular cancer years before, so we certainly didn't anticipate it.
l ended up miscarrying, but l still can't quite believe it happened in the first place.

Your chances of a live birth at 47 are pretty tiny, yeah, but your chances of having to deal with either the prospect of a termination or a miscarriage are still reasonably substantial especially if you still have regular periods. So unless that wouldn't bother you, I wouldn't take the risk.

crosspelican · 15/06/2019 18:27

Depends on how you feel about having a baby at 48, really!

Pipandmum · 15/06/2019 18:28

Cherie Blair ring any bells?

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 15/06/2019 18:28

My great grandmother got pregnant with my great uncle at 49. Not worth even the tiniest risk!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/06/2019 18:31

I wouldn't take the risk. I'm 52 and would still take the MAP if necessary. My periods are still regular, no sign of the menopause. Someone i know got pregnant at 54.

LastChanceFinalOffer · 15/06/2019 18:31

I wouldn't risk it but it's your own business. It's up to you. At least you and your DH wouldn't be shocked if you get pregnant. I'm laughing at the fact you're too lazy/tired to bother with MAP. Babies are notoriously unreasonable about disturbing other people's sleep and lifestyle. Grin

PotteringAlong · 15/06/2019 18:33

I’m with everyone else. You’ll be a lot more knackered and spending a lot more money if you are pregnant and you’re 66 when they’re leaving school.

Don’t risk it!

Cuppa12345 · 15/06/2019 18:34

If you're happy either having a baby or an abortion, then yanbu

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 15/06/2019 18:35

I think it’s selfish if a man whose wife has had 4 kids won’t get the snip. You shouldn’t have to go through crap like this at 47.
