tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

We had You and Me by Lifehouse

swiftfox · 13/06/2019 02:48

Breathless by Nick Cave.
We were going to go with God Only Knows first but this was a bit more upbeat. Plus we both love Nick Cave

QueenAnneBoleyn · 13/06/2019 03:28

Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls.

Kiwiinkits · 13/06/2019 03:30

Stay With You by John Legend

Pinkprincess1978 · 13/06/2019 05:22

We had Especially For You by Kylie and Jason. I wanted Glen Maderios Nothings gonna change my love for you but DH said no. We were getting married about 15 years after these song were out so they had a bitch of kitch factor that we both liked.

Ellie Goulding Your Song 😊

smallereveryday · 13/06/2019 07:00

Night and Day the 1927 version sung by Fred Astaire. Complete with crackles.

Cyclewidow46 · 13/06/2019 08:40

Phill Collins - Groovy Kind of Love

Bookworm4 · 13/06/2019 08:44

Marvin Gaye - Symphony

FairyDogMother11 · 13/06/2019 08:52

We had the Book Of Love by Peter Gabriel, DH picked it, he isn't traditionally very romantic and when I heard the lyrics I teared up a bit Smile

LynseyLou1982 · 13/06/2019 08:54

We get married in October and we're having The Ramones 'Baby I Love You'

Bethiboo40 · 13/06/2019 09:40

Not mine but I was at a wedding last summer and first dance was I'll be loving you forever - New Kids on The Block. I 😭😭😭😭 it was absolutely beautiful. I never ever cry, I'm known for my hard faced bitchedness, non sentimental personna, 😆

What a nice thread.

I had All for Love Byran Adams and Pavarotti version.

For my next wedding (yes pity that first one didnt last) it will be Kodaline. I see it mentioned a few times here, and when I first heard it, my first thought was what a beautiful song it is and perhaps one day....

Mermaidkisses · 04/02/2020 11:09

for us it has to be "Better Half of Me" Tom Walker. It's a 2nd marriage for both of us and we feel so lucky to have found each other

Dita73 · 04/02/2020 11:32

We didn’t have one. I’m not keen on that type of stuff

Scoobydoobywho · 04/02/2020 11:33

You do something to me by Paul Weller.

Electrocute1980 · 04/02/2020 11:36

We had Without You by Mötley Crüe - definitely not typical Grin

I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Elvis - Can't Help Falling in Love

MrsS92 · 04/02/2020 11:41

Sum 41 With Me, absolutely love it. Sums us up perfectly.
So pleased we didn’t go with a more typical first dance song.

Boshmama · 04/02/2020 11:42

Mountains - Biffy clyro ♥️

Misskittyfantastico85 · 04/02/2020 11:46

Daniel Beddingfield if you're not the one.

Ours was Amazed by Lonestar, January 2004 we got married..we went to three other weddings that year and all had the same song!

MaMaMaMySharona · 04/02/2020 12:04

@19lottie82 snap on the wedding song! Everyone loved it when it came on Smile

Andersonx3 · 04/02/2020 12:20

James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go, however our ceremony songs were.. different. I walked down the aisle to a piano cover of my favourite song, it's a 90's trance song so chose a cover so my wedding didn't turn into a rave. BT - Flaming June. We walked out to Busted - Meet You There!

Pasqual · 04/02/2020 12:58

We had Kodaline - The One.

I wanted Hall & Oates - You make my dreams come true, but DH was not keen at all!
