tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

I’ve had to name change for this as it is outing 😂 my fiancé and I get married at the end of next month, and we’ve decided on simple by Florida Georgia line, but it was very nearly a song called hit the diff by Marty mone, based on a silly bet we made two dates in ‘if we ever get married..’ type thing!
It’s going to be the last dance of the night instead 🚜

AnneTwackie · 11/06/2019 21:01

We had afternoon delight, everyone joined in and it was funny

AnneTwackie · 11/06/2019 21:02

Then we had our song and got to dance without people watching or knowing it was our song

Farmmum7 · 11/06/2019 21:10

We went for the song the farmer sings in babe really random and old but at the time I thought it was just quite sweet.

irecitethegruffaloinmydreams · 12/06/2019 12:56

"The way you look tonight" by Frank Sinatra. Didn't do a big production dance, though, just shuffled around a bit. Then "For once in my life" by Stevie Wonder kicked in and we enjoyed ourselves. :)

We had One Day Like This - Elbow

Here4theaibu · 12/06/2019 13:26

I saw her standing there - The Beatles then into Electric Love by Børns

Both big Beatles fans but we wanted something a bit different to something like All you need is love. Electric love because we both love the song. Not many people knew it but it's a good one to dance to and I love the lyrics

Mrsccc · 12/06/2019 13:26

@2toddlers we had One Day Like This as our first dance song too! Absolutely love it!

lifejustrockit · 12/06/2019 13:30

The Book of Love- Gavin James, we got married last year

TheWernethWife · 12/06/2019 13:32

Suddenly by Billy Ocean, was over 30 years ago.

Murfs · 12/06/2019 14:50

We had INXS tear us apart
We only got married last year but we had a really good rock cover band and they did a class version of it!

ellabella84 · 12/06/2019 15:00

Biffy Clyro - Mountains, acoustic version.

Julesni77 · 12/06/2019 15:09

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 12/06/2019 16:51

Starship - Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now

happypotamus · 12/06/2019 17:35

I also had Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith
I can't listen to it now after hearing it at some funerals since.

I wish we had had Into My Arms by Nick Cave, Time of Your Life by Greenday, Made Up Love Song #43 by The Guillemots or Perfect Day by Lou Reed

Cerealkillers · 12/06/2019 17:43

Everything by Lifehouse, we heard it for the first time early in the relationship and both really liked it. Brought back good memories and wasn’t too soppy but the sentiment was definitely there along with a bit of rock that surprised people that had never heard the song before.

PurpleFlower1983 · 12/06/2019 19:26

Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You - Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons (before the Vodaphone ad!) Grin

My DH is an ex dancer and it was one of the first songs we danced to in the kitchen so it was an obvious choice for us.

PurpleFlower1983 · 12/06/2019 19:28

We also had James Blunt’s Bonfire Heart in what turned out to be a spontaneous ‘second dance’ later in evening, both really fun!

Vibiano · 12/06/2019 19:37

Let's Stay Together by Al Green

Thingsdogetbetter · 12/06/2019 19:41

Didn't have one. Had a punk band and everyone pogoed around. Most of the photos are me with my mouth wide open, 'singing' along, punching the air. Very sophisticated and romantic at 50. Grin
