tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

Muse invincible. Dh picked me up for our third date band said I've just heard our wedding song .........I thought somewhat ahead of himself....... couldn't be anything else when the time came.

Walked down the aisle to feels like home. That's a really romantic song for me 😀.

So if a bit unusual op don't worry just enjoy. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of your first dance choice, the meaning to you is the only thing that matters.

First dance: nothing can change this love - Sam Cooke.

Walk down aisle: love me tender (just the music)

Walking out: here comes the sun - Beatles

Chosen because we like them, but also because they were some of my dad’s favourites artists...he never got to meet my husband, so it was nice to feel his influence on my big day.

We had Elbow one day like this, it’s about the moment you realise you’ve fallen in love and then growing old together. They’re very fitting the words and it’s a fab song.

I also love something my the Beatles, Queen you’re my best friend. Last wedding we were at they had Coldplay yellow. There are lots of great suggestions on here

Angels - Robbie Williams

I knew the bride when she used to rock & roll

Tillygetsit · 10/06/2019 22:47

Didnt have one for my first wedding as knobby ex and mates were too busy watching a rugby match.
2nd husband has no knowledge of music outside of thrash metal (yep I know how to pick em) I wanted Bird on a Wire but the lyrics made dh snigger Hmm then I suggested Coldplays Yellow as it was playing when we met. He said it reminded him of wee. Angry We ended up with Van Morrison Have I told You lately. It was the most stressful part of organising the wedding! Walked together down the aisle afterwards to Madness For the Wings of a Dove.

Following as we are having trouble finding a first dance song. 'Our' song is walk the moon - shut up and dance but it doesn't seem quite right.., We do want something with a bit of a beat though as neither of us like 'stand and sway' type dancing Wink
Loving hearing all the inspiration!

Too drunk too fuck - Dead Kennedys

Ben e king. Stand by me.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 10/06/2019 22:59

This was our first dance: still love it:

Although it was our second choice, as we couldn't get on top of the dancing needed for this one:

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 10/06/2019 23:00

second choice = first choice

jb1305uk · 10/06/2019 23:03

“You’re my best friend” - Queen. We debated for months over what to have and chose this when we heard it on the radio the week before the wedding.

YMCA

Everyone on the floor!

ImpossibleGirl · 10/06/2019 23:11

We had Seal's Kissed by a Rose.

It was the only one we could agree that we both liked and had the appropriate beat (hubby is a sway in a circle dancer) and appropriate lyrics.

pretentiousrubberduck · 10/06/2019 23:12

@wafflethewonderdog that was also our song at mine and my husbands wedding! You're the only other person I've heard of that's also had it, which is so surprising to me because it's such a beautiful song!

Moomoo1975 · 10/06/2019 23:12

I love you just the way you are....Billy Joel

The Ramones: ‘Baby, I love you’

Seren85 · 10/06/2019 23:14

@Owlettele Assume you are meaning Feels Like Home by Chantel K? Love that song, it was the first dance at my friend's wedding.

wafflethewonderdog · 10/06/2019 23:15

@pretentiousrubberduck

I'd never seen the film or heard the song when he suggested it but when you listen to the words, it's beautiful.

jessicawessica · 10/06/2019 23:17

Don't want to miss a thing by Aerosmoth.
DH chose it because he refused to dance to Life is a Rollercoaster which actually was our song.
Pillock.
