tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

We had Wannadies, You and Me song

Can't remember. We didn't pick it and we were pissed. Dh and I have very different tastes in music so we wouldn't have been able to agree on a song (and we don't have a special song like a lot of people on here) and we didn't actually spend much time inside at the disco because it was such a beautiful, sunny day.

Endlessly by muse. I love that song and it reminds me of how much I loved DH on that day and makes me smile. We're going through a rough time right now but thinking about this makes me think we can get through this.

We had Baby I Love You but the Ramones version.

DH chose it, we both really liked the words, it was short so we didn't have to spend too long up there on our own and it was upbeat so we could have some fun with it. We didn't want anything too current either. Still love it.

neverhadanymarblestolose · 12/06/2019 21:03

We had Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac, but sung by this guy: www.alivenetwork.com/bands/audio?bandname=Dylan%20Parsons (it's the first track if you want to hear it).

Although a couple of months before our wedding, Three (the mobile network) ran an advertising campaign with a little horse dancing to the Fleetwood Mac version. I very nearly changed the song at the last minute, but glad I didn't. Everyone loved it!

Make You Feel My Love - the original version by Garth Brooks Smile

moominmammy · 12/06/2019 21:16

@Lucie8881 we had Goo Goo dolls- Iris too. Still gives me goosebumps when I hear it, but had to make people join us on the dance floor as it was so so long!

Thehop · 12/06/2019 21:22

Adam sandler “I want to grow old with you” from the wedding singer!

mummywingingit · 12/06/2019 21:30

We had Bruno Mars - just the way you are, but in an acoustic version covered by Boyce Avenue.
We chose this as when the song was released, my husband text me to say 'listen to this song, it's everything I feel about you' ❤️
We had only been together a few months, so was really sweet ❤️

SudowoodoVoodoo · 12/06/2019 22:03

For two years it was going to be "Just the way you are" by Billy Joel. A week before the wedding we actually tried dancing to it... Sadly DH is not the great dancer that he believes he is and it was going to be the word's longest 4 1/2 minutes of rythmnless swaying.

So we needed shorter. Much shorter. So I rummaged through The Beatles for a much better 2 1/2 minutes of Here, There and Everywhere Grin

The song by Tara and willow from buggy

Chuffingchuff · 12/06/2019 22:13

We had snow patrol, chasing cars. Absolutely love that song!

Miracle Of Love.....The Euythmics

transformandriseup · 12/06/2019 22:16

Your Song by Elton John, followed by Crocodile Rock

Bunnyhop1502 · 12/06/2019 22:16

Getting all misty reading these responses. I chose “This I Promise You” by N*Sync after I found an old teenage diary of mine and I’d declared it the most romantic song of all time. It’s not but I felt I should let teenage Bunny have a say in her wedding day.

IllhaveaPpleaseBob · 12/06/2019 22:25

Perfect Day by Lou Reed

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 12/06/2019 22:30

How sweet it is to be loved by you

Daffodil2018 · 12/06/2019 22:43

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 12/06/2019 22:45

God not heard Martha’s Harbour for years. I used to love it. Have downloaded.

Daffodil2018 · 12/06/2019 22:46

Also, one that I heard subsequently and loved is The Book of Love sung by Peter Gabriel.

Crackerjackerknacker · 13/06/2019 02:17

The Way You Look Tonight - sung by Fred Astaire, beautiful tune and lyrics and 'Polly` by Kate Rusby. It's a waltz and includes the chorus' I will take you dancing upon our wedding day'.
