Love this thread!

Tolleshunt · 07/06/2019 22:35

Carpet I remember it, we only sang it at Easter. Loved it, but I used to regard it as rather tricky to play on the recorder, as it involved sharps and flats.... Grin

Girlwhowearsglasses · 07/06/2019 22:35

OMG are you me? I looked this up last night as I was talking to DNephew about it - he’s only 20 and also knew all the songs from his C of E school - I was surprised.

My favourite line: ‘ jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled’

BadgerButty · 07/06/2019 22:35

Am loving this thread and the trip down memory lane. And it’s making me think one or two of my neighbours might actually enjoy hearing me play ‘Autumn Days’ and ‘Colours of Day’ Grin

FilthyforFirth · 07/06/2019 22:36

Best thread ever! I remember a lot of these songs, though I dont think our book had people on it. I seem to remember some sort of blue pattern on the cover, also a green one.

Waves from this athiest who is going fo sleep humming if I had a hammer!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/06/2019 22:36

Is “Harambe” in there?

🎶 far away in Kenya, where people are so poor,
Found that with a little help, they could do much more,
Seeds and schools and factories, fishing in the bay,
Everyone decided that they’d call it Harambe 🎶

BurntSausage · 07/06/2019 22:37

Best thread ever.

Here’s a nice rendition of Apuskyduski to make you all feel six again m.youtube.com/watch?v=nh3z10ZBcW8

Orangeday · 07/06/2019 22:37

Wow I’m Jewish and remember loads of these. I once wandered off on a beach when I was about 6 and managed to find and join a christian group of kids singing the wise man built his house upon the rocks. My mum found me bowing my head as we all praised Jesus and dragged me off in horror.

I remember Apuskiduski too. Great songs.

londonrach · 07/06/2019 22:38

Mn did discuss it before. My dsis and i really loved one song about the different nations but cant remember it now and the next song which might be 55 or something. Can someone put whole list down. Might ave to order cd now op..

@Tolleshunt
Glad I didn't make it up Grin.

Got another corner..
Would you walk by on the other side,
And would you not pro-vide,
Cross over the road...

Amazing. This is why I'm a teacher. Loved my primary years.

BurntSausage · 07/06/2019 22:38

Clawdy just reminded me of this one, which we were also allowed to shout in:

Who build the ark? NOAH! NOAH!
Who built the ark? Brother Noah built the ark!

myhamster · 07/06/2019 22:39

oh my god, I had forgotten about half of these. There's going to be an online rush now as we all go and buy them. It was a blue book if I remember correctly. Our HT was a strict methodist, our infant teacher went to church. We used to sing these songs every day!

When DD was Christened 10 years ago, we sang One More Step Along The World I Go , that was my choice! The vicar said it was very apt.

FuckBrussel · 07/06/2019 22:39

This is an awesome thread! My favourite was, "Oh Jesus I have promised..." so jaunty! We had them on great big sheets bound together like carpet samples - the head used to winch them down, turn to the hymn of the day, then haul them back up again.

Withington · 07/06/2019 22:39

Don't know if it's in this particular hymn book - but my favourite was "You shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace, and the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you; there'll be shouts of joy and the trees of the field shall clap shall clap their hands", each repetition getting faster and faster till the person playing piano couldn't play any faster!

Acunningruse · 07/06/2019 22:39

AND A WIN FOR MY HOME TEAM!

Zoolatry · 07/06/2019 22:40

These are turning up at weddings these days - especially Lord of the Dance and Sing Hosanna!

Withington · 07/06/2019 22:40

And "swing bell over the land, swing bell under the sea, the bell of creation is swinging forever and all of the while it is swinging in me" Smile

elephantmarch · 07/06/2019 22:41

“From the tiny ant, (from the tiny ant) to the elephant (to the elephant) .....from the great white shark, to the singing lark “

That one might’ve been a b side. I Also loved you shall go forth with joy...and the mountains and the hills shall la da di da da@ as you got to go faster and faster and faster

“In middle ocean, sardines are swimming apiuskiduskee apuskidoo

IHeartKingThistle · 07/06/2019 22:41

Our primary school headmaster (tiny village school, no more than 60 kids reception to year 6) used to play the piano standing up and beaming. He knew every song in that book and used to let us yell out the numbers of the ones we wanted to sing. He was awesome.

Morning has broken, number 1
Autumn Days, number 4
Lord of the Dance, number 22
When a knight won his spurs, number 52

OP how did you ever find a copy, I've been looking for ages!

londonrach · 07/06/2019 22:41

Its was colours of days! Thank you op, m.youtube.com/watch?v=mw-7CJhlbp0 Most enjoyable thread this year

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 07/06/2019 22:41

@londonrach

This planet consists of lots of different races, living here are people with different faces (etc) then a list of countries -

India Mexico Germany Iran
South Africa Japan and Russia Mali Pakistan
All of these places are wonderful to see
Where would you like to be

Fontleroy · 07/06/2019 22:42

Love this thread! Me and my best friend discuss all of these often.

On a slightly different note does anyone remember the blue hard back music lesson books? There’s a song in particular which I think is called ‘Mission Control’

Mission control do you read me
We really don’t have that much time

Lots of messages to mission control follows Wink

I would LOVE to find the book on eBay if anyone could help

IHeartKingThistle · 07/06/2019 22:42

Elephant that one was in Come and Praise 2, you're obviously younger than me (or had a better funded primary school!)

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 07/06/2019 22:42

No, you’re not BU at all, BUT...

...I’ll see your copy of Come and Praise, and I’ll raise you my COMPLETE Come and Praise - words and music edition!! One of the first things I bought when I decided to learn to play piano Grin
