I've found a video on YouTube, is it all the same stuff that's in the book?

mabelsgarden · 07/06/2019 22:29

How lovely and heartwarming that we have Muslims on here and also atheists, and also Christians and spiritual people. agnostics and people who believe but aren't avid, and everyone is in agreement that these songs are lovely.

What a lovely, lovely thread.. Smile

RictusGin · 07/06/2019 22:29

Oh crosspost with MooBaa!

Tolleshunt · 07/06/2019 22:29

I was at school throughout the 8@s. We had the orange 'Morning has Broken' hymn book, with many of those mentioned.

"Heeee who would valiant be,
'Gainst all dis-aarrrr-ster"

Carpetburns · 07/06/2019 22:30

@scarecrowhead YES! Loved that one!

DuggeesWoggle · 07/06/2019 22:30

Ahhh Autumn Days - best song ever! Did everyone else do the rubbing the tummy but on the 'taste of apple pie'?

Keep me travelling along with you, am singing it now.

Wonder how old those kids on the front are now? Must feel odd, knowing that your pre pubescent face was part of the collective memory of millions of people for a whole generation!

londonrach · 07/06/2019 22:30

Give me light in my lamp keep me burning... how come each tune coming back to me

FenellaVelour · 07/06/2019 22:31

This entire thread has been a blast from the past and I’m loving it.

Anyone remember God Bless The Grass, or the one that went “there are hundreds of thousands, millions of sparrows”?

TyneTeas · 07/06/2019 22:31

I remember Apuskaduski! It had pictures of little fish swimming on the cover I think

BurntSausage · 07/06/2019 22:31

Fuck. APUSKIDUSKI. Shit me. Wow. It’s 1988 all over again. Thanks @Hullabaloo! I can’t remember anything about it apart from singing ‘apuskiduski, apuskidoooooo’

londonrach · 07/06/2019 22:32

Dh heard lord of the dance recently on a nursery rhyme cd and got very excited singing it. Dont think dd understood why daddy was singing so loudly

Seren85 · 07/06/2019 22:32

This thread has made me ridiculously happy!!

Summergarden · 07/06/2019 22:32

Oh wow, so much nostalgia! Reading this thread may have been the best part of my day.

Hullabaloo was that the book with fish shoals on the front?

Fedoratheexploreer · 07/06/2019 22:32

Usuallyinthemiddle · 07/06/2019 22:32

Jesus's ladder ladder!
When a knight won his spurs.
Oh my.

Carpetburns · 07/06/2019 22:32

Does anyone remember...

There is a green hill far away,
Without a city wall,
Where the dear Lord....?

BadgerButty · 07/06/2019 22:32

@hullabaloo I have both the apusskidu and come and praise piano books (I also have all the others in the same series as apusskidu - there are many!) and can be regularly found belting a tune out on the piano. I bet my neighbours love me Grin

WatchingFromTheWings · 07/06/2019 22:32

Still got my original blue one somewhere! It must be 36(ish) years old now!! 😆 🎶

Clawdy · 07/06/2019 22:33

Mr. Noah built the Ark
People thought it was such a lark
Mr. Noah pleaded so
Into the Ark they would not go!
Down came the rain in torrents
Down came the rain in torrents
Down came the rain in torrents
And only eight were saved!

GU24Mum · 07/06/2019 22:33

I must be slightly (hoping only very slightly.........) older than some of you as we had the Red Folk Hymnal and the Blue Folk Hymnal - still had "Colours of Day" though!
Clawdy - Jesus Bids Us Shine was apparently one I learned at nursery school - my lovely 80 year old father still sings it to us at times!

Summergarden · 07/06/2019 22:34

Hmm so what do we think is the best way to —force— I mean, encourage, our kids to learn these awesome songs? Are they all on YouTube or a CD?

scarecrowhead · 07/06/2019 22:34

@Carpetburns 'where the dear lord was crucified and died to save us all'

Violetroselily · 07/06/2019 22:35

I bloody love this version of Shine Jesus Shine

MoobaaMoobaa · 07/06/2019 22:35

HariboLectar · 07/06/2019 22:35
