Jamie and James? Same name?

Ok so I know this is nothing to do with me, so don't need you all telling me that. But this couple I know have just had a son a few weeks back, I'll not say his first name but his middle names are Jamie James so.. - first name - Jamie James - second name. Is this only me that's finding this, silly and weird? I thought Jamie and James are the same name. I'm just finding it rather strange.. anyone else find the silly? Hmm

He has 2 middle names 'Jamie James'?

That's ridiculous. Yanbu

crazyasafox · 04/06/2019 21:49

Of course it's daft! Like Richie Richard Smith, or Charlie Charles Smith.

I DID used know someone called Dickie Richards though - true story. Born early 1950s, so a generation younger than me.

DizzyPigeon · 04/06/2019 21:49

Yanbu. How odd! And I say that as someone who thinks my middle name is odd paired with my first name - but that's even worse!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/06/2019 21:50

That's a very.... interesting choice for them to make. I'm with you, OP, that's just weird.

I also think it's strange when people give their children (usually boys) almost the same name as their surname e.g. David Davies, John Johnson, Richard Richards (not to be confused with Rik in Bottom Grin).

We once knew a man called David, whose middle name was Davenport - he became known as Double-Dave Grin

Crunchymum · 04/06/2019 21:52

They aren't the same name at all but they are so ridiculous paired together. It's just so unoriginal.

Like me being Crunchy Jane Janey Mum.

Odd.

crazyasafox · 04/06/2019 21:53

@WeBuiltThisBuffetonSausageRoll

LOL at doubledave!! ^^ Grin

Leeds2 · 04/06/2019 21:55

Have they said why they chose these names? I'm guessing the grandads were James and Jamie?

CaledonianSleeper · 04/06/2019 21:56

They aren't the same name at all
They really are! Grin

x2boys · 04/06/2019 21:56

I know a few Jamie,s that are just Jamie not James, but yeah it is a diminutive of James odd choice ,Double Dave😂

EL8888 · 04/06/2019 21:57

They are pretty much the same name so why repeat?!

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 04/06/2019 21:59

I had a friend who’s son is James. He gets called Jamie and never James. Never could figure out why they never registered him as James - even she said she didn’t know why.

OwlBeThere · 04/06/2019 22:01

Yeah that’s odd. I know if 2 different sets of sisters who as far as i can see have the same name. One set are Katy and Kathy. The other set are Catherine and katie.
That’s a little odd to me.

Throughabushbackwards · 04/06/2019 22:01

I once met a child named Jaxon Jackson (no middle name).

Crunchymum · 04/06/2019 22:02

I know several James' and Jamie's and none of them are James on their BC but are known as Jamie or vice versa. Although very similar, they have never been the same name to me?

  • I do know 2 James' who go by Jim / Jimmy respectively.
TitianaTitsling · 04/06/2019 22:03

They are the same! Tim Timothy, Tom Thomas?

xSharonNeedlesx · 04/06/2019 22:05

I know someone who named there twins Mya Rose and Mia Rose. There’s no helping stupid.

WhereForArtThouBray · 04/06/2019 22:05

Could be worse it could be Neville Neville. But yes it's really weird to have those names together.

MonstranceClock · 04/06/2019 22:15

I went to school with a Will WIlliam.

In my hear they're two different names, as I love Jamie, but hate James!!

DadDadDad · 04/06/2019 22:23

Monstrance - was that school in the eighties? Because I was at university with William Williams.

SparkleGem · 04/06/2019 22:24

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll double Dave! That's strange too! Lol.

@Crunchymum yes exactly my thoughts!

@Leeds2 no explanation.. not that they have said.

@x2boys yeah my thoughts, odd choice!

@EL8888 yeah why repeat?! Odd!!

SparkleGem · 04/06/2019 22:27

@OwlBeThere that is very odd!

@Throughabushbackwards wow! Me too!! That's weird right.. surely not a common name, and exact same spelling too! Shock

@xSharonNeedlesx exactly! No helping what so ever.. why?! Hmm

@TitianaTitsling yeah exactly.

SmarmyMrMime · 04/06/2019 22:29

Richard Richardson, William Williamson type names are very common. I was amazed at how many of them there were when I worked in a public facing role.

Jamie is a diminuitive of James so yes it's an odd choice like Harry Henry or Jack John. Surnames will have traditions of recycling family names (like Scandinavian traditions) but to use a double version of a forename just seems odd or thoughtless.

violetshift · 04/06/2019 22:29

I know a lindsay lindsay
a Harry Harrison and a Jonny Johnson

Ellie56 · 04/06/2019 22:29

Jamie Oliver's real name is James.

And yes I agree Jamie James is ridiculous. It's like Tommy Thomas or Sammy Samuel. Hmm

MonstranceClock · 04/06/2019 22:30

@DadDadDad no, school in the 00's.
