Ok so I know this is nothing to do with me, so don't need you all telling me that. But this couple I know have just had a son a few weeks back, I'll not say his first name but his middle names are Jamie James so.. - first name - Jamie James - second name. Is this only me that's finding this, silly and weird? I thought Jamie and James are the same name. I'm just finding it rather strange.. anyone else find the silly? Hmm

Many years ago when I was a child there was a boy whose name was John William Willey he was always referred to as John Willy Willy.

The entire name was always used even when calling up the street to come in for tea.

Did he grow up to work in the construction trade? If so, did he keep having bizarre women randomly screaming his name at him without the 'John' part, but adding another 'Willy' for good measure?! Grin

I knew someone who was called Willie Dick

The real name of Fish (the singer from Marillion) is Derek Willy Dick Grin

James and Jamie are different names, albeit shouldn't be put together.

I love the name James. I hate the name Jamie.

To me James is a classic, masculine name. Jamie is one of those names that suits a child but not an adult. Only my opinion......

LarryGreysonsDoor · 05/06/2019 23:20

Jamie and James are the same name.
Like Charlie and Charles, Tom and Thomas, Sam and Samantha.

My given name is a diminutive form of a common name, like Jenny for Jennifer.
I was born in the mid 70s and it was very unusual to have the shortened version of your name on your birth certificate. It used to cause no end of problems with HR and the like as people just wouldn’t believe it was my full name.

lau888 · 06/06/2019 00:06

Yes, James and Jamie are the same name. Like Kitty and Catherine, Daisy and Margaret, Ted and Edward, etc.

tinnitusqueen · 06/06/2019 01:40

I knew a John Thomas.
Surely every one can see what's wrong there!

x2boys · 06/06/2019 07:09

You would think tinnitus !😂

44HuntJas · 06/06/2019 07:26

i knew a John Thomas.

I actually don't immediately see the problem with that one Blush

44HuntJas · 06/06/2019 07:28

Jamie and James are the same name.
Like Charlie and Charles, Tom and Thomas, Sam and Samantha.

I don't get that. If I meet a girl called Sam, and I meet a woman called Samantha, I don't think they have the same name, I think one is called Sam and one is called Samantha...

MyFavouritePlace · 06/06/2019 07:31

Had a uni lecturer called Jim James!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 06/06/2019 07:37

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 06/06/2019 07:39

It would be like calling someone:

Chris Christopher
John Johnathan
Liz Elizabeth
Susie Susan

You get the picture.

OwlBeThere · 06/06/2019 07:56

@44huntjaz John Thomas is slang for a penis. Grin

BloomsButtons · 06/06/2019 07:56

I know two brothers: John and Jack and I just think their parents must have no imagination.

DontPressSendTooSoon · 06/06/2019 08:14

I knew a Donald McDonald once. At least it wasn't Ronald!

cookiechomper · 06/06/2019 10:37

It does sound odd but I think if they are middle names he may possibly be named after someone and that's why they were picked.

RiversDisguise · 06/06/2019 11:37

I know a woman who named her son James (he goes by Jamie)

She threw the MOTHER of all strops when her DB named his son Hamish

She insisted he had stolen/ copied the name

SammySamSam09 · 06/06/2019 13:03

My cousin Jamie (as on bc) does not like to be mistakenly called James, he says it's too stuffy. He is 15 years old so I understand that. I call him Jai instead 😂

Drogosnextwife · 06/06/2019 13:06

x2boys · 06/06/2019 17:06

It originates from Lady Chatterleys lover I think 44.

HeresMe · 06/06/2019 17:17

I know some people the woman's name is Charlotte the guy's name is Carl (which originally a shortened version of Charles) and the son is called Charles, they have essentially all got the same name.

Teddybear45 · 06/06/2019 17:20

Is the Jamie the English Jaime or another language? I know a Jaimie Hamish but he has Indian heritage and the Jaime probably should have been spelled Jaymi.

HeresMe · 06/06/2019 17:21

I know two brothers: John and Jack and I just think their parents must have no imagination

And Jack was originally a nick name for people called John.
