To be delighted That Leave Have Lost

I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

I think too that it would be close still, or probably Leave again. I know two Remainers who have not so much changed their minds but thinking that voting Leave will get it over with. Which it won't and one at least ought to know that trade deals will take 7-10 years.

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/05/2019 18:57

There is only one real way to find out what the people want yet the people in power are refusing to do it.

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 20:14

At the risk of repeating the last three years. The people voted for leave. And they’ve done the same again. How many votes must there be?

Alsohuman · 28/05/2019 20:20

They haven’t though. It’s even closer in Thursday’s results than it was three years ago.

Quartz2208 · 28/05/2019 20:28

Who are the people though?
The Scots? The Northern Irish
The under 25s? The generation coming through whose future it is

The people should have never been given such a simple choice in the first place

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 20:34

But they were. All the people. Everyone who had the opportunity to vote. The rules can’t be changed after people have voted.

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/05/2019 21:11

Due to all the spin and the fact that it wasn't a referendum on leaving the Eu we really have no idea of anything other than the country is still split.

Alsohuman · 28/05/2019 21:20

I agree and, if it wasn’t clear that l agree with you, l do. It was someone else who said the people had voted leave again. Quite obviously they haven’t, some of them might think they have.

BertrandRussell · 28/05/2019 21:26

“The people voted for leave. And they’ve done the same again”
Well, no they haven’t, actually.

BertrandRussell · 28/05/2019 21:28

This whole situation was brought about by incompetence. Who in their right mind would have set a simple majority for a decision like this?

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 21:33

Someone who thought they were going to win. Then wouldn’t you all have been happy.

Tavannach · 28/05/2019 21:40

The people voted for leave. And they’ve done the same again.

No, they really haven't.

Remain 40%
Leave 35%
Conservative/Labour % 23% (loyal party voters, includes Tory remainers and Labour leavers - cancel one another out)

contentedsoul · 28/05/2019 21:41

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I didn't vote, my partner didn't vote, family and friends didn't vote, work colleagues didn't vote...BUT when we all do vote it will still be to LEAVE!!

the EU will never be the same again, not ever.

1tisILeClerc · 28/05/2019 21:47

{The people voted for leave. And they’ve done the same again.}

The vote was to select 73 people to sit as MEPs representing the UK in Brussels if the UK does not leave.
Everything else is just spin and speculation.

In terms of 'winning and losing, practically all citizens across the whole EU are 'losing' due to Brexit.

1tisILeClerc · 28/05/2019 21:48

{the EU will never be the same again, not ever.}

Every day is a new beginning.

Quartz2208 · 28/05/2019 21:53

Contented soul but that is the issue the reason we are wanting to leave is that we never embraced being in the first place we let ukippers take MEP places that were designed to get our voice heard and then never turn up
We then had a referendum where we simply said we should leave - no clear mandate no concept of how and the problem is (particularly with the Ireland border) no one has a clue how to make that happen because what we want the good bits but not the bad just ain’t happening

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/05/2019 22:04

Tavannach

But (once again) the numbers that you put forward are flawed in that huge assumptions are being made on why people voted for multi-platform parties.

The numbers can be used to vary the results depending on your own bias.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 22:04

Can’t believe people are still trying to spin the figures for a Remain majority. 😂

Alsohuman · 28/05/2019 22:12

Really?

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 22:17

Yes.

Jasging · 28/05/2019 22:38

Best comment I saw on this in response to the BBC's biased coverage was...

"and if you add up Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham's points together then London has won the Premier league"

Equally ridiculous! The fact so many leavers didn't vote in protest too should also be taken into account.

Suiker · 28/05/2019 22:52

The results show that the country is in a mess mainly

BertrandRussell · 28/05/2019 23:04

“Can’t believe people are still trying to spin the figures for a Remain majority.”

Well, it’s certainly not a Leave majority!

Antigonads · 28/05/2019 23:10

My maths must be up the Swannee then.

I blame my grammar school education.

BertrandRussell · 28/05/2019 23:17

The point is that nobody knows. All the Brexit party voters are leavers. All the UKIP voters are leavers. Most of the Greens and Lib Dems are remainders. Everyone else? Who knows.
