AIBU to wonder why people say jeans are comfy?

While leggings/yoga pants/track pants have kind of taken over, I’ve always been puzzled why jeans were considered comfy! Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and rather unforgiving for irregularly shaped bodies. Leggings are comfy. Sweats are comfy. Pajama pants are comfy. Jeans .... are not.

I also don’t really think they are particularly fashionable in real life, though they did look great in cigarette ads back in the day

AIBU for wondering why people say they are comfortable?

I like jeans but I agree they are not always comfy and my awkward shape means I need a belt which makes them a bit more bulky sometimes. However, being overweight means leggings look even worse on me! I find clothes hard to buy and I hate dresses ,so I'm sticking with the jeans for now. Trousers are ok but again it's finding the right styles.
Shorts are ok for indoor days or holidays where I don't care how awful they may look on me. Skirts are also hard to find as I can't work out which shoes to wear with them and I can't wear heels. I really hate clothes!

Agree so much OP. Never found a pair I've found comfortable! And same for leggings. Over rated.

megletthesecond · 26/05/2019 11:43

Yanbu. They're fine for out of the house but not comfy for sitting around in.
I change into trackpants when I get home.

SluggishSnail · 26/05/2019 11:43

I'll go against the grain and say I love jeans. Soft cotton, easy to wash & dry, can dress them up with a shirt and sandals for work.
Sweats and pajama pants make me look like a sack (although admittedly they are comfy)

Cornettoninja · 26/05/2019 11:43

I have a couple of pairs of jeans that are definitely comfy.

I think it’s more because they’re easy. They go with pretty much any top and/or shoes, don’t pick up fluff/hair and hide dirt/stains better plus they’re hard wearing so less surprise holes than leggings.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 26/05/2019 11:45

You need to try Dorothy Perkins Eden jeans. Comfiest things on earth.

fedup21 · 26/05/2019 11:46

I love jeans and find them very comfortable!

LeSquigh · 26/05/2019 11:47

Or the £15 M&S jeggings. They look like jeans but are comfy like leggings. They are the best! Recommended by lots of people on here (and I struggle to get comfortable trousers of any sort) and I was not disappointed.

indianbackground · 26/05/2019 11:48

I can manage soft or ribbed jeans. Skinny just will not go on. And I can’t be bothered with the struggle of jeans after they’ve been washed.

However yabu regarding others - I see other real people (not just models) usually a bit younger and a different shape to me that look great.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/05/2019 11:48

I found Jean's comfy when I was younger with a flat stomach and no fat.
Now they are the worst, especially to sit down in.
Leggings aren't as bad without the zip bulk

Oysterbabe · 26/05/2019 11:48

I find them comfy now I've finally found a style that suits my body shape.

Nolar · 26/05/2019 11:49

I hate leggings, I find the clingness uncomfortable. But a good pair of worn in jeans I love and find comfortable! Can wear them all year around and fling on a t-shirt or jumper and I'm good to go!

HeadlessGummyBears · 26/05/2019 11:49

Yup, agree with PP, I much prefer jeggings. Best of both worlds.

AuntieMarys · 26/05/2019 11:50

I love my Levis.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/05/2019 11:50

I don’t own joggers and dislike leggings but I have several pairs of comfy jeans - sorry OP

AnyFucker · 26/05/2019 11:51

No...they are not comfortable for lounging about the house like trackies or harems are, but I do wear them a lot outside the house and find them very practical and easy to dress up or down

Guerlainista · 26/05/2019 11:51

I used to find them comfortable but I hate them since I had c-sections with both my babies. They dig in near my scar and they’re no longer flattering either.

Leggings are my comfy go-to for round the house. Or a nice air of high waisted tights/bare legs under a dress for going out.

IlluminatiConfirmed · 26/05/2019 11:53

I love boyfriend or bootcut jeans, they're the most comfortable thing on earth for me. Skinnies and jeggings on the other hand are clothes from hell, I will wear them because they look sexy but taking them off at the end of the day will be the best part of that experience!

HelloToMyKitty · 26/05/2019 11:55

don’t pick up fluff/hair and hide dirt/stains better plus they’re hard wearing

This is the only point I’ll concede. They are hard wearing, very suitable for the playground when I was a kid. I don’t imagine leggings or track pants would have held up.

Also, I look back at high school photos, all of our jeans looked so horrible. What were we all thinking with mid-riff T-shirts, boot-cut jeans, white sneakers and bangs (why yes, I did grow up in 90s America) Unacceptable!!

I live in jeans as @Nolar says jeans and t shirt (or floaty top) in spring/summer and a jumper in winter = sorted! They can be smart or casual or dressy depending what you wear them with!
I have two pairs from Abercrombie that are a really good fit as they do "odd" sizes eg 25,27 etc inch waist so for those who are in between two high street sizes they are ideal! I also have a pair from Zara that are comfy and some from Dorothy Perkins which were comfy but have lost their shape so they are now my scruffy jeans if I'm doing any decorating lol!

MangoFeverDream · 26/05/2019 11:58

several pairs of comfy jeans

Several pairs? I might have believed you if you said one, but several?! Shock

icecreamsundae32 · 26/05/2019 11:59

Also don't own any leggings or joggers so it's literally jeans or dresses and tights in winter or shorts and skirts in summer for me!

Siameasy · 26/05/2019 11:59

I’ve found a lovely high waisted pair from Hollister which are a pleasure to wear.
My experience is they’re only comfortable if you’re not overweight but that might depend on body shape. I’m an apple so if I’m overweight I have a bigger waist but normal bum and hips and this plays havoc with jeans.

userabcname · 26/05/2019 11:59

Yanbu. I've never found a pair of comfy jeans even at my slimmest size of 6-8. I don't bother with them now. I find dresses very comfortable on the other hand and at this time of the year so easy to chuck on with a cardi, job done. Harder in winter when it's colder.

Mac47 · 26/05/2019 12:00

Leggings and jogging bottoms are more comfortable to wear. However, I look like a big sack of unstructured shite in them, so would never be seen out in public in them. So in terms of how i feel , jeans are much more comfortable.
