AIBU to wonder why people say jeans are comfy?

While leggings/yoga pants/track pants have kind of taken over, I’ve always been puzzled why jeans were considered comfy! Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and rather unforgiving for irregularly shaped bodies. Leggings are comfy. Sweats are comfy. Pajama pants are comfy. Jeans .... are not.

I also don’t really think they are particularly fashionable in real life, though they did look great in cigarette ads back in the day

AIBU for wondering why people say they are comfortable?

I love my jeans but find it hard to find non skinny ones nowadays and I don't really like skinny jeans and they aren't so comfy. Jeans and a t-shirt is easy to wear and put together so for years has been my go to look. Can also wear if I haven't bothered to shave my legs. I do wear leggings sometimes but because they are thin feel I can't just wear them with a t-shirt as too revealing, and joggers I'll wear indoors only but think it's a slightly chavvy look if not planning to exercise so try not to wear them out much. I do like a nice dress sometimes though

”I’ve been the same shape, more or less, all of my life and never found jeans comfortable”

Why does the fact you haven’t changed shape make any difference? If jeans (or any item of clothing) aren’t comfortable it means they are the wrong size or shape for your body.

Enko · 26/05/2019 13:27

I found my people! I don't like jeans at all. Don't own a pair do not get why people call them comfy at all.

Pearlfish · 26/05/2019 13:30

I love my jeans and find them very comfy. But it's good that we're all different Smile

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 26/05/2019 13:31

@kaytee87 - thanks, I will try them!

Weirdpenguin · 26/05/2019 13:35

IMO jeans are the most uncomfortable garment ever invented.

woodhill · 26/05/2019 13:44

Does no one else struggle with the bulky seam at the ladyparts? That chafes me something chronic

Yes and in some trousers, I am long waisted and sometimes the crotch is in the wrong place

I find M&S jeans good or NYDJ but so expensive

ElspethFlashman · 26/05/2019 13:53

MilkTray I find the Next 360 ones not too bad for slipping down as they're basically skinny jeans made out of some spandex type stuff.

BUT I have resigned myself to having to wear belts with jeans. There's a belt in the mens section of H&M which is God's gift to apples. It's 100% woven elastic so clamps your waistband to you like iron.

It's not very pretty but its at least fairly unobtrusive. The Large is probably a size 18-20, I buy a small and I'm a 14.

sergeilavrov · 26/05/2019 14:02

I am never more comfortable than when I’m in Topshop Joni jeans, but I can’t bear jeans that aren’t super skinny Blush

malificent7 · 26/05/2019 14:22

New Look Yasmin jeans are comfy. But otherwise yanbu op.

The point is that I’ve had many years to try various pairs of jeans and take suggestions/recommendations from friends as well as buy at many price points. None ever look good enough to be worth the discomfort.

Nope. They are just awful.

Like a few others I lived in jeans until I had children. Since then I've struggled to wear them. It's not just that I'm bigger, I'm not actually much bigger. They just do not seem comfy enough for some reason.

I like jeggings but do find they fall down a bit, and I would only wear them out. Around the house its joggers or Harems.

dudsville · 26/05/2019 15:19

I find jeans are very comfortable. I get my jeans and trousers from two companies that particularly suit my shape though. If they ever go bust I will cry!

SerenDippitty · 26/05/2019 15:26

I find skinny jeans uncomfortable unless they are stretch. Also love M & S jeggings. I find straight jeans are fine. I like to wear leggings and jeggings with tunics or t shirt/ shift dresses.

SerenDippitty · 26/05/2019 15:27

Meant to add I really love soft cotton trousers in the summer, glad they are still in the shops.

Squigglesworth · 26/05/2019 15:56

I love jeans. I live in jeans. They will have to pry my jeans from my cold, dead fingers. Wink

Personally, I think tight-fitting leggings look much less comfortable and flattering than jeans, but maybe I haven't given them a fair try. The only pair I've ever bought (on a whim) just don't feel good to wear, and as a result I've never worn them for a whole day at a time.

Of course, not all jeans are created equal. They have to fit your individual shape/curves, but a good pair of jeans in the right cut and size is heaven.

vintanner · 26/05/2019 16:00

I wear jeans to do the garden, walk the dog and things like that. For me, they are very casual and are for workmen/women as they were designed for.

I do find it strange that some people who, when younger/larger get older and slimmer start wearing them and think they look good, they really don't, but that's just my opinion.

They definitely are not comfy.

EggysMom · 26/05/2019 17:03

I'm a size 18/20. I know that I don't look good in leggings/jeggings, and so I don't wear them. I do wear bootcut jeans. I probably don't actually look any better in them but, in my warped mind, I think I look better. As my own self-esteem is more important than what anybody else thinks, I wear the jeans.

I don't get how people find them uncomfortable. I buy cheap supermarket jeans of the right size, they are really soft, really comfortable, I can curl up on the sofa in them, I reckon I could sleep in them.

I don't wear shorts, I'm not inflicting my legs upon the world Grin

Alwaysawomantome · 26/05/2019 17:18

I absolutely love my 'super skinny, super stretch' jeans from Very. I find them incredibly comfortable and disagree with the fashion aspect. I don't think they're unfashionable at all. I'm definitely not skinny either.

Also, my bum looks fantastic in them.

isseywithcats · 26/05/2019 17:42

i agree that hard denim jeans are not comfortable but i have a few pairs that are softer stretch type denim and they are comfy but then im a size ten straight up and down cant wear skinny jeans cant see how people get their legs into them haven't found a pair i can get past my knees yet

AdamAntsCrackpotHistory · 26/05/2019 18:04

I love my jeans, and have 15 pairs.... 😮😮😮 However, all bar two are second hand and cheap, and almost all are different styles, dog walking, drainpipe, loose, high waist, jeggings, cut offs etc. Best pairs in the world are tesco and sainsbury in terms of fit, and my faves are a fake Levi's, good old ebay. Would NEVER travel on a plane or long journey in any of them though! Sweat city!!

greenelephantscarf · 26/05/2019 18:07

yabu

I love jeans.
they are most comfortable. they fit (me) well, I like the firm fabric that sculps slightly.

plus I love having proper pockets

dottiedodah · 26/05/2019 18:36

Couldnt agree more!.Even when younger and a lot slimmer ,found just so uncomfortable and unforgiving!.Hard, and difficult to sit down in .Quite short so not the best fit either!.Wear stretchy M and S trousers and tops so comfy!.In summer have found harem pants or linen trousers very cool and comfortable.

ALongHardWinter · 26/05/2019 18:39

Totally agree with you. Even at my slimmest,a size 10 (many years ago!) I never found them particularly comfortable. I know for sure now I'm a size 20,that I wouldn't find them comfortable.
