To think Stephen Graham is quite possibly the world's finest actor.

Just finished the second episode of the Virtues and I'm just blown away. He was incredible in This is England and all the series, and he was the best thing about the last series of Line of Duty. I just wanted to start a thread to tell the world how utterly wonderful I think he is!!!

Me too. And he's a bit sexy Grin

‘Vile, phlemly Liverpool accent.’

Nice Hmm

Chanteuse · 22/05/2019 22:42

You can not like an actor, but "vile, phlegmy Liverpool accent"? I'm sure your voice is lovely to listen to. Confused

Chanteuse · 22/05/2019 22:43

In regards to the thread - I think he's a fantastic actor. He was great in Little Boy Blue, lots of Liverpool accents in that. Wink

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 22/05/2019 22:43

One of you must be his mum or his nan (hope not Oneinamillion or Spongebob, for different reasons)

Jasging · 22/05/2019 22:44

I like him, not seen episode two yet. He was great in Little Boy Blue as well.

Pinkarsedfly · 22/05/2019 22:44

I think he’s fantastic.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 22/05/2019 22:44

I love his accent. It's not just the choices of "gritty working class"parts, it's the emotion he brings across in everything I've seen him in, just feels so real. And yes he's kind of sexy too Wink

YANBU.He's that good of an actor that its almost as if he isn't acting.

Gth1234 · 22/05/2019 22:45

He is always "Steven Graham" though.

That's why Daniel Day Lewis, Sir Laurence Olivier, Al Pacino, Edward Norton to name a few are better - they change with the part.

Chosennone · 22/05/2019 22:45

He didn't have a scouse accent in Pirates of the Caribbean and he was just as good in that. I think he's amazing.

RJnomore1 · 22/05/2019 22:47

HE was pretty good as al Capone in boardwalk empire too. Not a Liverpudlian accent in sight..

Stopandlook · 22/05/2019 22:49

Agree, he lights up the screen.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/05/2019 22:49

Wasn’t he Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire? He was genuinely chilling and not a hint of a phlegmy Liverpudlian accent.

Is he even from Liverpool anyway?

FashionFoodLaughs · 22/05/2019 22:50

Bloomin’ love him! Very easy on the eye and is fantastic in Rocket Man too.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/05/2019 22:50

Cross posted with RJ

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 22/05/2019 22:50

Sorry Oneinamillion and Spongebob, I’ve come across all disapproving - not what I was intending. You’re all marvellous.

I still think this is a family support thread mind.

I expect Vicky McClure’s auntie will be along in a minute.

DragonMamma · 22/05/2019 22:51

He’s brilliant. He’s not a one trick pony by any means

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/05/2019 22:51

Agree OP! He may play very similar roles (I haven’t seen all his work- line of duty or little boy blue) but that doesn’t mean that what he does do isn’t amazingly talented.

I’m lying here in bed mentally drained from watching the emotions he went through in tonight’s episode of the virtues. Now, I know that isn’t all him, there were writers and directors and producers working very hard to create that too, but he’s the one who put it on his face and in his voice and made me believe every single bit of it had really happened to him. Hugely talented actor. And I think he deserves awards for this show for sure.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 22/05/2019 22:52

I’m not related in anyway shape or form, but totally agree, he’s a fine actor.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 22/05/2019 22:52

Nooo I promise I'm not his mum or sister, I just think he's underrated and genuinely one of the best actors I've ever seen

Thanks Nomnom. My cat thinks I'm marvellous too Grin

Gth1234 · 22/05/2019 22:55

thanks for the notes about his alternative accents. I will try and catch the films/shows. mentioned.

David Tennant's Scottish accent always sounds "put-on" to me. I know it isn't, but it's hearing his English accent all the while.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/05/2019 22:58

SG was in Taboo too, but I can’t remember what is accent was in that.
