To think Stephen Graham is quite possibly the world's finest actor.

Just finished the second episode of the Virtues and I'm just blown away. He was incredible in This is England and all the series, and he was the best thing about the last series of Line of Duty. I just wanted to start a thread to tell the world how utterly wonderful I think he is!!!

OP posts:
Freddiefox · 22/05/2019 22:59

underrated but he’s in everything at the moment, everyone loves him.

Personally I think he’s over rated.

A little bit like idris Elba ( who I love) but he’s a bit of a one trick pony

WhiskersPete · 22/05/2019 23:03

He's incredible!

murasaki · 22/05/2019 23:11

He has such a mobile face, you can read every fleeting emotion. He's fantastic. The Virtues is a hard watch but loving it so far.

Did anyone else think that the youngest kid reminded them of Thomas Turgoose from This is England? Similar eyes and cheek, can see him getting cast by Meadows again.

joebtfsplks · 22/05/2019 23:11

Vile phlegmy accent???

I love the Liverpudlian accent! Love it. Went to uni in Liverpool.

He's a great actor

BelfortGabbz · 22/05/2019 23:13

He's the flavour of the month at the moment. Not my cup of tea, don't know why.
I'm always aware that it's HIM I'm watching playing a character if that makes sense?

RhubarbIsEvil · 22/05/2019 23:15

If you think he’s a one trick pony then watch Parade’s End!

ASauvignonADay · 22/05/2019 23:15

He's bloody brilliant. So gritty and real.

CatelynStark · 22/05/2019 23:16

OP, I was just thinking that myself. I think he’s an absolutely incredible actor who is vastly underrated. Watching episode 1 of The Virtues, I got tearful within 15 minutes, at the scene with his boy. There’s not many actors who can do that.

cheesenpickles · 22/05/2019 23:16

His range is excellent and I truly think he'll be like Olivia Coleman and end up with at least an Oscar nomination, if not the win, one day.

RosaWaiting · 22/05/2019 23:22

I'm on ep 2 of the last series Line of Duty and tbh I'm struggling with it....I don't find him particularly engaging. I've loved the other seasons.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/05/2019 23:29

Those of us who do have a vile, phlegmy Liverpool accent think he's a good actor. It's nice to hear a cross section of regional voices on the telly. Unfortunately, he is a Liverpool FC supporter and so this goes against some of his magnificence.

I found it a bit rubbish this series, didn’t really connect with the characters like i have before.

It’s all a bit pantomime, Vicky McClure character was a bit one dimensional, and Arnot just a tad meh,

Calloway · 22/05/2019 23:34

He and Keeley Hawes are in danger of being wildly overexposed. Switch on a British drama and one of them is bound to be in it.

Stephen Graham is phenomenal
I feel like I'm watching him tell me about his life. I find it easy to believe everything he portrays

Yes about the little boy looking like Thomas turgoose too!

TurquoiseAndPurple · 22/05/2019 23:38

@TinklyLittleLaugh

Yes, he's from Liverpool 🙄

PollyShelby · 22/05/2019 23:41

He's ok but he's no Cillian.

Calloway · 22/05/2019 23:43

I will say that he being on the crest of a career wave makes a nice change from the procession of posh boy actors like Cumberbatch, Hiddleston, Redmayne et al we've had in the past few years.

Davros · 22/05/2019 23:45

I think he's brilliant. He was Baby Face Nelson in that Dillinger film, maaaad!

Bingowingslikeashieldofsteel · 22/05/2019 23:51

I'm loving The Virtues and he's good in it. He's a bit of a cock in real life though but this series is making me see past that - he's obviously a scouser, funny that quaint regional accent thing... if only we all spoke RP Hmm

Shortstuff99 · 23/05/2019 00:00

I wish I could share my 2 real life experiences of the chap on here

Calloway · 23/05/2019 00:05

Good or bad experiences?

theWarOnPeace · 23/05/2019 00:05

Do it short

PollyShelby · 23/05/2019 00:07

Why can't you short?

HotMess21 · 23/05/2019 00:13

World's finest actor?

Pah! Stephen Graham is not worthy of holding a candle to see his way to licking Sir Douglas of Henshall's boots.

That. Is. All.
