Anyone else think Jon got a really terrible deal in the end?

I know IABU to want a happy ending. It was never going to happen, but I'm still bummed about it.

No I feel like Jon's story has went full circle, the nights watch was the only real family he knew.
That was probably my favourite part of the episode Smile

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/05/2019 23:49

I read a leaked synopsis of the last two episodes a few weeks back and really hoped it was fake. Then, when last week's episode panned out in the exact same way, I knew it was going to end the way it did.

All I can say is, I hope the last two books - if they're ever written which I hugely doubt have a different ending.

Butterymuffin · 20/05/2019 23:50

He's with his direwolf! I thought it made sense too. I could have imagined him doing it off his own bat.

SneakyGremlins · 20/05/2019 23:52

I don't watch it but it's all over Facebook - how does Danaerys die exactly? Does her dragon kill her?

Figured you'd know Blush

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/05/2019 23:52

Even with the Spoilers tag I feel bad writing this, but why is the Night Watch still in existence? The wildlings are friendly and the Night King is defeated. Surely theres no purpose for them any more?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/05/2019 23:53

@SneakyGremlins Jon kills her.

WoahMySocksAreOnFire · 20/05/2019 23:54

Bran? Fucking Bran?! The dullest character in all 8 series!
I would have preferred Cersei and her incest baby to rule over that sallow faced kid

SneakyGremlins · 20/05/2019 23:54

Thankyou! Grin

WoahMySocksAreOnFire · 20/05/2019 23:55

8 series I’ve invested my time in 😂 and the ending was shit

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/05/2019 23:58

Seven seasons of carefully nuanced story and character development and it feels like they picked the ending like they pick matches for the sodding FA cup.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/05/2019 23:59

@WoahMySocksAreOnFire I bloody hate Bran. Wish Jaime had pushed him a bit harder!

WoahMySocksAreOnFire · 21/05/2019 00:02

@DanielRicciardosSmile 😂😂😂
Why couldn’t he have been Bran the dead instead of Bran the broken?

This whole series has been rushed and doesn’t make sense.
They spent 7 series building up all this “winter is coming” crap and then spent one episode on it... it was a good episode but it felt like not much thought had gone into it.

Justme10 · 21/05/2019 00:02

Definitely agree about Bran! I mean I get why they chose him to be king but I just can't stand him 😂

Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:03

Yeah, there's no real need for the Nightswatch. DH says it's a convenient fiction to allow Jon to be exiled but keep his life. Which I guess is fine. But it did feel sad.

Also, the remaining Starks separating. Arya to maybe never see any of her family again?

Bah! At least Sansa had a good end.

Mookie81 · 21/05/2019 00:05

Jon's not with the watch he went off with the wildlings.

Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:05

I do think the series would have benefited from a couple more episodes. There were some very good bits, but the pace feels not quite right.

Might work better on a binge rewatch.

OP posts:
Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:07

@Mookie81 yup. But he's been exiled from the rest of his family and friends. That said, the Wildlings were the best friends to him.

And at least in real life Ygritte survives and they got married :)

Whoops75 · 21/05/2019 00:07

So glad I found ye!
I’m like a briar since I saw the ending.

Had predicted what would kinda happen to
Jon Sansa Arya etc

But fucking Ban
All hail Bran the broken Angry

I hope GOT fans boycott star-wars bloody writers definitely rushed off to more £££

Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:09

Bran was not the choice I'd have made.

And with Turion talking about stories... How could he possibly pick Bran?

I'd have been happier if he'd picked Sansa. Though I was rooting for Jon.

ShesABelter · 21/05/2019 00:13

In the very first episode of GOT he asks his uncle to let him join the night watch. He was happy when he was with the free folk he liked the freedom. I think he would be happy. He and ghost are back north of the wall where they belong and not sure if Sam lives back there or stays in kings landing since his wife was from there?

He's away to the far north.. Bran's in the south (but seems he may just disappear and leave Tyrion to get on with running the place). Sansa is queen of the North and gas the power she wanted, Aryas away west exploring and roaming around like she enjoys and drogons gone east back to the last of the eggs.

Daniel I don't think there is a night watch. I think it was said to the unsullied as a compromise for Jon to livr and arranged with the free folk to be waiting for him so he could go be free as Bran knew hed be happy with them.

I'm happy with the ending. Not sure what people expected to happen that would of made it better?

Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:17

I wanted Dany not to lose it. And Dany and Jon to rule together, with the North being free.

It wasn't going to happen. But i'm a sippy romantic who loves a happy ending.

I also love epic fantasy... So you think I'd have learnt by now that the two rarely go together...

Just realised I finished my first read of LOTR 21 years ago! Had a similar sadness for the fate of Frodo at the very end. Good story, but I'm apparently Queen of Wishful Thinking!

Tumbleweed101 · 21/05/2019 00:18

The story was always about the Stark family and in the end they won the Game of Thrones.

Jon is going to end up leading the wildlings and far North. Sansa is Queen of the North. Bran is King of the Six Kingdoms and Arya is off to discover the rest of their world.

I thought the ending fitting for the story. Jon survived the dragon because of his Targeryan blood but he was raised as a Stark and half his blood is theirs and with their sense of honour.

I don’t think Jon would have made a good king but I think he’ll make a good wildling leader and he’s gone to the place he is most at home.

I’m glad Tyrion survived - he’s the only one on the Kings council whose had any experience of such a role lol.

Bibijayne · 21/05/2019 00:18

*soppy

I've been talking too much about baby stuff... Autocorrect assumes I mean sippy cup. Oh dear!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 21/05/2019 00:19

The part when Bran says 'Why do you think I came all this way?' (I think that's how it went) and I just thought, well nice of you to fucking tell someone you absolute thunder cunt boring bastard arsehole.

Felt really awful for Jon but it made perfect sense and I think he would be happy.

Sansa is just an absolute babe. Dany should have gone ages ago, her whinging was getting on my nerves. Love love love Tyrion.

WoahMySocksAreOnFire · 21/05/2019 00:20

I'm happy with the ending. Not sure what people expected to happen that would of made it better?
For the whole series not to be so stupidly rushed? Danaerys went from nice to total psychopath at the speed of light. Cersei and jaime’s deaths were such a let down.
Danaerys’ death was so undramatic and boring.
Jon became incredibly dull in this series too.
They essentially concluded a whole series of books in one paragraph, or that’s how it seemed.
