£175 for this... AIBU to complain?

Went to SAKS. Never paid this much for a hair-do in my life, but really wanted a great ombre-balayage and saved up for it.

This is what I got. I'm so upset. Didn't realise it was this bad in the salon under the soft lighting in a corner of the salon with no natural light.

Spent 4 hrs (twice the amount of time she said it'd take, so she also had to tend to 2 other clients inbetween doing my hair). Came out feeling sick, dizzy and rushing off to pick DS up from MIL who needed to go out so didn't get chance to really look at it til I got home.

Can I complain now that I've left the salon?

Octopus, if it was anything like the experience I had, I just wanted to run a mile and cry after a terrible experience!

hellenbackagen · 18/05/2019 20:44

Saks are franchises and as good as the stylist that works there.

Defo defo complain!!!

OhTheRoses · 18/05/2019 20:45

I've only had two hairdressers- both independent. Both found by recommendation. Both experiences hairdressers who owned the salon. Both in London. I have three colours for highlights, a layered mid length cut and no treatments and blow dry. £150.00.

May I respectfully suggest op that you get to know a new hairdresser. Have a trim and blow dry, next time let them cut a little more, keep eyes on the colours in the salon. Forge a relationship.

First hairdresser: 1983 to 2000 - just couldn't get to SW1 when the 2nd baby came alone.

Second hairdresser: 2000 to now, Clapham.

They became my friends and are my friends.

2nd tip. Tip. They will fit you in when something comes up.

Meinmytree · 18/05/2019 20:46

If you're not happy, go back. I once had a hairdresser leave me with orange hair. It didn't look quite so bad under the salon lights, and she assured me it'd calm down once I'd washed it. It didn't. And it really was orange - I was a trainee teacher and had to go into school for several days with orange hair before I had time to go back.

The hairdresser who had dyed it apologised but said as they were close to closing time she couldn't start any colour. The manager walked out of the back, took one look at me and told her that yes she was colouring it again there and then.

nwybhs · 18/05/2019 20:48

memorial. Did you complain? Or are you posting that as an example of a good colour? It sounds like you are trying to say using a local salon is better but the picture says otherwise.

LifeImplosionImminent · 18/05/2019 20:54

That's definitely not balayage, also usually salons tong the hair in to loose curls to bring out the balyage and the salon after pics always look stunning - there's also a distinct line at the top of your head, I understood balayge to look more natural and if done right, you would never need your roots doing because it looks great at any length. Also the poor trim is not what you expect for that amount of money. Definitely complain. Hope you get your money back

Sagradafamiliar · 18/05/2019 20:54

I thought the same nw but didn't want to say in case the girl doesn't know her photo has been posted 😬

hannah162 · 18/05/2019 20:55

Definitely complain. I’d be requesting a full refund or someone more experienced to correct it. Hope you get it sorted!

Passthecherrycoke · 18/05/2019 20:59

Oh op poor you. You’re worrying too much - why would you need a legal right to complain? You’re only complaining, not taking them to court!

PCohle · 18/05/2019 20:59

Nywbhd well that was unnecessarily bitchy.

nwybhs · 18/05/2019 21:04

well that was unnecessarily bitchy.

I'm sorry. It wasn't intended to be. I was asking the poster because the image didn't match what it seemed she was trying to say. Not sure what part of asking for clarification is bitchy but it certainly wasn't meant to be.

hellenbackagen · 18/05/2019 21:10

French balayage. Done by indie lass trained by mark hill in a salon oopnorth. Cost me £95 with cut and blow.

Shop around op.

Why did you leave the salon without complaining?

Please see OP... tired and ill from 4hrs stuck in a hot salon, had to rush to pick DS up from MIL, soft warm lighting in a corner of the salon where there were no windows and no natural light. I did say to stylist I had expected it be lighter, as per my test strand taken at my consultation, but she simply took me to reception to pay and went on to her next client in a hurry. In the moment I wasn't aware if how bad it looked.

MIL said "Oh.... well, errrm... it's not what I expected it to look like..." as soon as I walked in. And DH said "WTF.... 175 quid for that?!!" and whipped his phone out to take the pics so I could see it from all angles.

You’re worrying too much - why would you need a legal right to complain? You’re only complaining, not taking them to court! true, I do have a tendency to worry too much. I'm worried they either won't fix it or refund me as I've left the salon.

Call them and explain that you are not happy. I’m sure they will be unhappy as well when they see what you were allowed to leave looking like. Their work is an advertisement to others!
If you ge5 no help....call the bank and cancel the payment as a fraud charge.
Good luck

costacoffeecup · 18/05/2019 21:27

Can you post a picture of it when they've fixed it? That's dreadful. I once paid £30l0!for balayage at aveda and it was awful so I'm a bit invested in seeing you get it fixed ...

carrotflinger · 18/05/2019 21:27

Go back and complain asap. Say you didn't realize how bad it looked under the salon lights. The cut is bad too - sorry. My hair looks better than that and I cut it myself with the kitchen scissors....
I'm not surprised you are upset - both colour and cut are a shoddy job.
Hope you get it sorted. They should redo that for free.

costacoffeecup · 18/05/2019 21:27

£300 not £3010. That would have been crazy 😀

MaureenSowerbutts · 18/05/2019 21:34

I had highlights a few years back and they were much blonder than I wanted or expected after I had discussed with the colourist.

I didn't say anything at the time as it wasn't until I got home I realised how much I hated it.

I called the salon the next day, they got me back in and added darker ones for free.

Definitely call and explain that you are not happy.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/05/2019 21:34

The line looks rather like grown out highlights. I do like the colour but it needs to be blended far better. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

SunshineCake · 18/05/2019 21:35

I agree with LondonHousingAdventure. It's not good. Sorry.

aIways · 18/05/2019 21:36

Definitely worth calling. I don't think it'll be tricky to fix at all. Least they haven't cut half your hair off or left you with bright orange hair! Please do post a picture when it's all fixed Smile

GinUnicorn · 18/05/2019 21:46

Definitely complain. If you are polite but assertive to the manager I’m sure they will have you in to corrrect it. Good luck Flowers

KimchiLaLa · 18/05/2019 21:47

Sorry looks bad. Looks like it's roots grown out rather than balyage! What twats.

crazyasafox · 18/05/2019 21:52

YANBU.

crazyasafox · 18/05/2019 21:52

@HairHell

I'd be pissed off spending that and getting that result. Tell 'em what you told us. You thought it was OK in the fake lighting of the salon, but when you got home, it looked awful... And the more you looked at it, the worse it looked.

I'm so sorry for you. My DD had a balayage done for £57.50 at a little hairdresser in a little market town last month, by a lass who only qualified last Autumn. And it looked like this. Beautiful! Smile
^

Shocking to pay three times that, and have it look like yours. Go see them when they open next. Good luck!
