£175 for this... AIBU to complain?

Went to SAKS. Never paid this much for a hair-do in my life, but really wanted a great ombre-balayage and saved up for it.

This is what I got. I'm so upset. Didn't realise it was this bad in the salon under the soft lighting in a corner of the salon with no natural light.

Spent 4 hrs (twice the amount of time she said it'd take, so she also had to tend to 2 other clients inbetween doing my hair). Came out feeling sick, dizzy and rushing off to pick DS up from MIL who needed to go out so didn't get chance to really look at it til I got home.

Can I complain now that I've left the salon?

I've always found balayage better with curls in, it makes the blend less harsh but it's just not great for what you paid OP.

Can't understand why people pay so much though, I paid £45 for each colour and cut in these photos with a local hairdresser who comes to me.

Thats shocking and so overpriced.

There's a bloody line right across, no attempt been made to blend better.

Id ask around and go on personal recommendations in future. You can't beat a good experienced hairdresser who usually charges half that.

INeedAFlerken · 19/05/2019 13:58

Yikes. Colour is very poorly done and the cut is sloppy as well. Shocking price for it, too!

Glad you've contacted them. Know what you want before you go in: a fix, a refund, a fix and a discount for the amount of time you've had to give up to sort it out ... and be firm. This is a very poor job.

Honeybee85 · 19/05/2019 14:05

I would complain too. If they are a reliable company they will take your complaint seriously.

I am naturally a brunette and once got my hair dyed blonde at an expensive salon as a student.
My hair looked kind of orange under the salon’s light and I complained there but the manager convinced me it was ‘ a warmer shade of blonde’.

When I came home my mom asked me if I was planning to go as a carrot for Halloween...

I went back and they reluctantly fixed it.

Don’t feel embarassed to claim what you have paid good money for OP.

serenawren · 19/05/2019 17:08

Why are pp posting photos showing how lovely their hairstyles are? I don't recall the op asking for this.
Great, your hair looks amazing. Now let's go back to what the op was asking about. Confused

Op, if you don't feel comfortable speaking in person, try calling them first to gauge reaction. You definitely shouldn't keep quiet though. Good luck x

StinkEye · 19/05/2019 18:03

Oh OP, they've really done you a disservice. Please do let us know what they say, and most definitely opt for a different hairdresser assuming they offer to rectify it for you. This is a terrible dye job, please do report back.

sunshine11 · 19/05/2019 18:07

My reaction “dear god that’s bad”.
I think I would post the photos on their Facebook page saying how disappointed you are and asking them to message you. It’s absolutely fine to go back and I think they would rather you do that than never go back but moan about them. If you don’t get a satisfaction response I’d go to head office.

Btw that’s a crazy amount to pay. I got my daughters hair done and it was only £90.

Leftielefterson · 19/05/2019 18:09

Yes I’d definitely complain OP.

StellaRockafella · 19/05/2019 18:26

The noticeable line is shocking. The only time there should be a noticeable line like that is when your tint or highlights have grown out and your roots need doing.

Do you keep your hair straight all the time? If you do, then balayage isn't really the best colour technique to use as it's something that's been devised for curled or natural curly/wavy hair. I have no doubt that if you tong your hair, the colour will look a million times better. But that's not the point as the colourist hasn't delivered anything remotely similar to the photo you've showed them. They need to add redo the top section of hair and break up that line.

The cut needs to be evened up too.

maras2 · 19/05/2019 18:26

I'm an older person and for the life of me can't understand why on earth women with such lovely hair would pay a small fortune to have your hair looking like your root's need doing.
No matter how much it costs (and you have been ripped off) It's not a good look.

maras2 · 19/05/2019 18:29

Sorry, meant to say
Balliage my arse

SunshineCake · 19/05/2019 18:30

The latest one doesn't look that great either tbh.

themiddlestair · 19/05/2019 18:33

My hair looks like that naturally - darker at roots and lighter at ends. My son too. I never realised it was a look people pay for!

gingerbiscuits · 19/05/2019 18:45

Yes, yes, yes- go right back & complain- that's not acceptable at all!! Scruffy cut & awful distinct line in the bayalage. Just be polite & ask for the Manager & make it clear that you expect it fixed immediately for no extra cost. Stand firm!! Good luck!!

nuxe1984 · 19/05/2019 18:45

Looks like you're growing out a colour! I would go back and complain. Tell them that you expect the saloon to give you a better cut and to put it right … and you'd rather not have the original hairdresser who did it either!

hopeishere · 19/05/2019 18:52

The colour is dreadful. I don't know how they let you leave like that. Hope you can get it sorted.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2019 19:01

Why on earth do people think it's at all helpful to say how much they paid? It's pointless unless you know where the OP is. It just seems like being smug for the sake of it.

Arnoldthecat · 19/05/2019 19:05

wow,i normally pay £12

MunchMunch · 19/05/2019 19:10

Ah op I can totally sympathise! Whatever I get, no matter what it is, I always get the shite!

I went to a reputable hairdresser a few years ago who charges quite a bit compared to smaller places even just for a big standard cut. We'd came into a bit of money and planned a night away with another couple so thought I'd treat myself to a proper hairdo with a senior stylist - what could go wrong?! They'd won awards and are always in the local rag with the head stylist giving advice. £100 and a couple of hours in the chair I ended up with a crappy cut and colour Sad. Looking back I really should have walked away at the consultation as I wanted someone who knows their job and should know what would suit someone and be a bit creative (nothing too drastic!) but more that the generic haircut and colour which also looked unnatural at the roots and I could have got at a fraction of the price.

Funnily enough a newish friend goes there and her hair is lovely but as I say I always get the shite. I won't mention my fake tan disaster! I just don't bother now then I won't be disappointed.

IncrediblySadToo · 19/05/2019 19:14

maras. I was trying to find a polite way to say the same thing. It’s a style I just don’t get. Hellenbachagen’s I think looks good though, but it’s French so different I suppose.

Mine looks like that because I’m growing out the colouring I was getting done.

For a while now I’ve been wondering why the trendy youth & celebs (with money!) have been letting their colour grow out like that. Now at least I know why!

All I wanted was to cover the grey bits, I like my natural colouring. I’ve had it done quite a few times now but it starts off too dark & just goes gold/ginger way too quickly. My hair dresser is lovely and tries different things, but to no avail. She even ‘highlighted’ just the grey bits, but it didn’t cover enough of the grey, but to have done more would have been a whole head... in frustration I’m letting it grow out so I can see my natural colour again. I’m starting to feel ‘me’ again. I probably should try elsewhere, but I don’t know enough about it all to know what I need to try that’s different. This aging process is a bitch. I don’t want to ‘go grey’ gracefully, I’m only in my 40’s.

OP. Sorry about the above, it’s only my (clearly off trend!!) opinion. However, irrespective of what I think of the style they haven’t given you what you asked for and what they said they would. They took TWICE the time AND didn’t cut it well. They need to fix it AND give you a partial refund. They inconvenienced you originally, they’ve done a bad job and now you’re going to be inconvenienced further trying to get in for them to fix it. It’s terrible at any price, but for £175 it’s unacceptable. They need to refund you at least 50%.

You’re in the right here, be confident when you talk to them.

JemSynergy · 19/05/2019 19:34

Definitely go back and let them know you are not happy. The colour does not look right at all. I recently had my hair coloured costing nearly £200 and when I got home I noticed that I had a massive section at the root that hadn't been touched and I noticed the colour was very yellow. The stylist had obviously brushed hair over the section before showing me to cover it so I didn't notice. I phoned up to let them know and was told they had no available space for two weeks! However, online their booking system showed appointment availability. I went on facebook and wrote a review and straight away they called me and suddenly had space to fit me in to correct the colour! I went in for the correction and never went back again and that was purely based on the way they had not initially made any real effort at first to correct the problem.

popehilarious · 19/05/2019 19:47

is balayage always an ombre effect, i.e. darker at the top going into lighter in the lengths? I thought it referred to a more 'full' blend of highlights, which could be all over including the roots...?

Thinking of getting highlights/balayage so would be grateful if a professional could spell it out for me!

whyamievenamazeddotcom · 19/05/2019 19:48

I agree return to the salon it’s very “stripey” (sorry) and request all the money back and a fix both colour and cut - the woman should have been dedicated to you for that price she was clearly overstretched and had no business charging you that rate (I hope you never tipped)

MissMoan · 19/05/2019 19:54

Yes!

Cactus67 · 19/05/2019 20:00
