£175 for this... AIBU to complain?

Went to SAKS. Never paid this much for a hair-do in my life, but really wanted a great ombre-balayage and saved up for it.

This is what I got. I'm so upset. Didn't realise it was this bad in the salon under the soft lighting in a corner of the salon with no natural light.

Spent 4 hrs (twice the amount of time she said it'd take, so she also had to tend to 2 other clients inbetween doing my hair). Came out feeling sick, dizzy and rushing off to pick DS up from MIL who needed to go out so didn't get chance to really look at it til I got home.

Can I complain now that I've left the salon?

Definitely complain. And remember to add in that it took 4 hours - twice as long as you were told and a pretty big difference that had knock on effects, not least being rushed out of the salon and no chance to check you were satisfied before you left. Also point out that sitting in an airless corner for 4 hours with all the chemical fumes was making you feel ill.

If you’re able to find a photo on their website of a good example of what you should have had and were expecting, include that to show the difference so they can’t try to fob you off with ‘this is what it’s supposed to be’.

Also point out the colour difference with the patch test and that you were dismissed when you pointed this out and again said it wasn’t right.

And copy the head office in if you do it in writing so that the salon know that they can’t try to ignore you. And if you’re still not happy then it’s worth talking to trading standards to see if they have any advice/powers to do something...

Get back as soon as you can and demand they fix it (free) to your liking or get your money back.

I did something similar a few years ago, only one person where I worked knew I was having it done.

The hairdresser had his own opinion and went with that against mine, I paid but told him I wasn't happy.

When I went back to work, not one, NOT one person noticed I'd had anything done. The person who knew I was going asked me if I'd changed my mind.

Needless to say, I returned and told the hairdresser, who booked me in again and did the colour/style I wanted (still not as 'extreme' as I would have liked) but at least it was noticeable.

I never returned.

That's shocking. You really must go back. Ask to speak to the manager & request another stylist corrects it.

thegreatcrestednewt · 18/05/2019 22:23

The cut is poor too - it’s not straight! Complain. Good luck.

HairHell · 18/05/2019 22:24

I've fb messaged the salon being polite but frank, along with pics. Already had a response from a team member saying they take customer care seriously, they'll do all they can to rectify it and the salon manager will call me on Mon as a matter of urgency.

@memorial. It isn’t a straight line, there’s an obvious step/right angle on the colour on your daughter’s hair.

Loving the puppy, I have 2 springers, best dogs ever!

BridgetDarcy · 18/05/2019 22:30

I went back to a salon the next day once. I only realise how bad it was when I got home. When I did, it was like they were expecting me. They redid it there and then.

Mabellavender · 18/05/2019 22:41

It looks terrible op Shock sorry don’t want to make you feel worse! You should definitely go back. It looks like you tried to do it yourself!

But looks like it can easily be fixed.

IHopeYouUnderstandWeArePuppets · 18/05/2019 22:45

When I complained about a haircut I did so the next day over the phone. I think if it is really a bad job, as this is, the salon won’t try to argue with you even if it’s the next day. TBH I was pretty appalled at the time the stylist did it, but was so shocked that I didn’t react properly and half hoped it would look better at home. It didn’t.

They asked me to come in so the manager could see it, then booked me in ASAP to fix it. I didn’t ask for a refund and they didn’t offer, but they did fix it.

Popc0rn · 18/05/2019 22:52

I've politely complained a couple of days after getting balayage that the colour was too "blocky"; they were fine about it and got the senior colourist to fix it for free. Tbh they can't argue with those photos, so sorry OP, It's must be so disappointing when you've saved up and looked forward to it. I hated my balayage at first, but after the senior guy had fixed it I loved it. Sure they can just blend the colour in at the top and maybe do a toner or something to make it a bit lighter. Put some pics up when it's been fixed!

HBStowe · 18/05/2019 23:00

Yanbu, that’s shocking!

birdsandroses · 18/05/2019 23:02

Glad Hairhell that it sounds like they will fix it, as they should. I found this picture helpful in visualising how they achieve the effect. I am sure the line can easily be blended and will look much better then.

It also looks very dry/damage at the ends of just done today..

HairHell · 19/05/2019 10:50

It also looks very dry/damage at the ends of just done today

I think that's a result of the awful patchy colouring, it does make it look really dry. But to touch it feels lovely, and it is swishy. It's just the colour application and rushed shoddy cut gives it an over-all dry appearance too.

A lot of the pics pps are posting of nice balayage are really gorgeous, but they aren't what I was looking for. I showed pics at my consultation and specifically requested that I wanted an ombre-balayage (primarily ombre with some balayage running through) and it HAS to look good natural and straight as I don't have time every morning to be curling it. I showed lots of Pinterest pics, all of which were blonde ombre-balayage on straight brown hair. I was given the impression that they could do that, no problem.

Anywho, will wait to see what the manager says tomorrow...

OP please let go of that voice saying "why didn't I complain at the time?"

It's a haircut not a bad meal it's supposed to look good for 2 months!

It's intimidating but you have paid them a lot of money and they didn't do their job well - simple as that xx

PollyShelby · 19/05/2019 11:01

Can you post a picture here of what you asked for OP?

AntiHop · 19/05/2019 11:07

Well done for raising it.

HairHell · 19/05/2019 11:30

These are the pics I showed the stylist at my consultation

(however, when it came to booking my appointment the stylist who carried put my consultation said she was going on holiday so would hand me over to her colleague, who she assured me was another great colour specialist and she would show her my pics and give her the run down of what I want. This other stylist was there at the reception desk so I ran over what I wanted, and then recapped it all again at my appointment yesterday)

That looks lovely and very different, well done for complaining and best of luck with it.

kattekitt · 19/05/2019 12:25

I think you’ve done the right thing, see what the manager says on Monday. I would request however that a senior/more experienced stylist sorts it for you, that’s if you agree to return, and they offer a few treatments free of charge to help the condition of your hair after they have to bleach it again. Good luck

MarshaBradyo · 19/05/2019 12:40

So very different what a shame

That looks hard to do make sure they have the skill before correcting

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 19/05/2019 13:14

Omg the lines where the colour starts. 😳

She should have used the SAKs method!

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 19/05/2019 13:22

It doesn’t matter that you’re complaining after leaving the salon, that’s totally normal. Most people need to get home, give their hair a brush and take a proper look at it in their own space before they can properly decide how they feel about a hairstyle (or is that just me?!)

I once did exactly what you’ve done, left the salon feeling a bit unhappy but wasn’t sure if I was being unreasonable so I still paid and gave her a nice tip.

The next day I rang and politely said that I’d mulled it over but it really wasn’t what I’d asked for, and the stylist could not have been nicer. She redid the whole thing for free and gave me a free conditioning ‘treatment’ to counteract the fact that I was getting my hair bleached two days in a row. I absolutely loved it once it was redone, it was the best colour I’d ever had!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 19/05/2019 13:27

Saks are bloody dreadful. I used to go there and my current hairdresser worked there - they treated staff like shit.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/05/2019 13:30

I hope they fix it OP
