I just went to a toddler class with my two year old, really lovely arty (or as arty as a a toddler can be) and I saw it on the sign in form and thought it was pronounced like Niamh (had no clue how to say it so asked the mother) and just said it was a lovely name, to which I was rather abruptly told its Na-vay-uh I’m so confused!

Its normally heaven backwards.

Littlejayx · 16/05/2019 17:04

Sorry posted too early, she was mad that I presumed wrong! She was so angry.

Is it a popular name?

bluebluezoo · 16/05/2019 17:04

It’s Heaven backwards.

Each to their own.

mbosnz · 16/05/2019 17:06

Yup, Heaven backwards. My daughter was in a class with three of them.

QueenofPain · 16/05/2019 17:06

It’s a very popular name currently. Probably 1 in 20 female kids I see in urgent care is a Nevaeh.

teyem · 16/05/2019 17:07

I wouldn't have been able to riddle that one out either op.

TooManyPaws · 16/05/2019 17:07

This generation's Senga (Agnes backwards).

SystolicSyster · 16/05/2019 17:08

But heaven backwards isn't naveah?

teyem · 16/05/2019 17:08

Why would you want to call your kid a name which is a word backwards anyway Confused. I'm so old.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 16/05/2019 17:09

I still haven't met one in real life - for a long time I thought it was a joke.

iolaus · 16/05/2019 17:09

you lucky, lucky thing

I always have to start at the H and write it backwards to get the spelling right - except for the one who tells you it's Heaven backwards but she's got the e and the a the wrong way round so it's not

MyYe · 16/05/2019 17:11

I can't work out how it's supposed to be pronounced. I thought it was Ne-ve-ah but if it's supposed to be heaven spelled backwards wouldn't it be Ne-va-eh? Or Ne-vay?

LaurieFairyCake · 16/05/2019 17:11

Also old

It's just fucking stupid

Topseyt · 16/05/2019 17:15

There's a thread somewhere in the Baby Names section about this "name", if you can even call it that. The OP was expecting her third or fourth baby and her husband had heard the name Nevaeh. He wanted to use it if they had a girl. OP ended up not keen and hoping to have a boy to get away from the issue.

Yes, it is heaven spelled backwards. Yes, it is virtually impossible to pronounce. Yes, it is utterly hideous.

What did this idiotic mother expect when she saddled her poor daughter with it?

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 16/05/2019 17:15

I’ve got a Niamh and I die a little bit inside when the two names are confused Grin

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/05/2019 17:16

Very popular- can’t stand it personally

redcarbluecar · 16/05/2019 17:17

Dreadful. Sorry, I mean Lufdaerd.

5foot5 · 16/05/2019 17:17

But why would heaven backwards be a good thing? I mean in crossword terms it would be reverse heaven. Sounds a bit hellish to me.

outvoid · 16/05/2019 17:17

I hear it mentioned a lot on here but still yet to come across one IRL.

Orangecake123 · 16/05/2019 17:19

I'm another one who doesn't get this name, and just learnt now what it means!

5foot5 · 16/05/2019 17:19

I’ve got a Niamh and I die a little bit inside when the two names are confused

I think Niamh is a lovely name and I promise never to confuse the two (though I know someone who called their daughter Neeve)

Preggosaurus9 · 16/05/2019 17:19

So it's pronounced like Nivea, the skin care brand?

Me neither OP.

acatcalledjohn · 16/05/2019 17:20

She got angry?

She's tihstab.

ANewDawn10 · 16/05/2019 17:20

Its one of those try hard names. Not lovely.

Littlejayx · 16/05/2019 17:21

I love the name Niamh and that’s what I thought! My daughter has a Irish name so I thought it was just a spelling difference!

I didn’t hopefully come across rude but I actually said i didn’t know it was a name and she really wasn’t quite angry. I wouldn’t use it myself It’s quite odd
