I just went to a toddler class with my two year old, really lovely arty (or as arty as a a toddler can be) and I saw it on the sign in form and thought it was pronounced like Niamh (had no clue how to say it so asked the mother) and just said it was a lovely name, to which I was rather abruptly told its Na-vay-uh I’m so confused!

My friend called her dd it 11 years ago. Don't like it either, always have to pause to remember how to say it.
Rather a Stacy, Kacy or Becky any day! Grin

GabrielleNelson · 16/05/2019 18:07

It's the backwards bit that baffles me. Why would you want to call your child heaven backwards? Why not just call her Heaven? Nobody uses Legna or Esor or Remmus. Grin

femidom12 · 16/05/2019 18:11

lufwA

Haffiana · 16/05/2019 18:20

10 girls registered as Neveah (rank: 2502=)

Eh? They fucking actually misspelled the misspelling??

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/05/2019 18:21

In the UK? I’ve only seen it as a brand of tableware on the US. I was at school with a Sehhhhhh-N-GA (aye).

ThatCurlyGirl · 16/05/2019 18:28

I was going to suggest Tensmum as an alternative to pay homage.

It does rather sound like sanpro for mothers though.

TheAssemblywomen · 16/05/2019 18:28

A neighbours dd is called this, hadn't heard of it before then...lufwa

mabelsgarden · 16/05/2019 18:29

I don't like the name Nevaeh ... Don't like Niamh either. (Pronounced neeve?) Sorry if that offends anyone. Sad

As has been said though, I don't know anyone called Nevaeh in real life...

DonkeyHohtay · 16/05/2019 18:32

Lucky you for never hearing of it OP. It's an awful name. Tacky in the extreme.

And as well as the twee little "heaven backwards" thing, nobody's quite sure how to pronounce it. Nevv-ay-hah? Neva-eh? Ney-vay-ah?

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/05/2019 18:38

I know of one, her middle name is Mae, natch.
I also have a Niamh, never been mixed up with that but she once got a Christmas card with her name spelled Knife Grin

Nannewnannew · 16/05/2019 18:38

What is the obsession with naming your child something ‘different’? When I was working in health care many parents came in with their children with unusual and differently spelt names, and whilst I realise that this is their choice, I could never understand why they, particularly mothers, would get cross if anyone mispronounced it. Surely this is telling them something! They would invariably say that they wanted something different, well, you’ve certainly achieved that!

SSENDAM!

SunshineCake · 16/05/2019 18:43

The name in the title isn't Heaven backwards.

PeevedNiamh · 16/05/2019 18:44

I also have a Niamh and it's awful if people confuse them. That said Niamh has been called all sorts - Neee-ma, Nymp, Ni-ah-ma etc etc. So anywhere in the ballpark of Niamh will be answered to 😁

teyem · 16/05/2019 18:46

Maybe it's, "Ha, Evan" backwards and a dis to the ex?

PeevedNiamh · 16/05/2019 18:46

Now I wish I'd called her Gnorts though Grin LarkDescending

qazxc · 16/05/2019 18:46

I thought for a while that DD had a friend called Nivea until I saw it written down. Blush

Littlejayx · 16/05/2019 18:50

I think it’s a strange idea, but she did say the heaven spelt backwards thing!

ImposterSyndrome101 · 16/05/2019 19:15

I like it. I wouldn't use it but it's better than a lot of the names out there tbh.

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 16/05/2019 19:22

I know someone called Niamh who pronounces it as Nee-yam

Oh my God! Confused

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/05/2019 19:48

PeevedNiamh
No word of a lie, I was once asked if her name was Niamh, short for OliviaConfused

hazeyjane · 16/05/2019 19:52

Thought it was a MN myth

I know a Nevaeh

ANewDawn10 · 16/05/2019 19:56

Niamh? Like nymph? Nympho? Sounds awful

hazeyjane · 16/05/2019 20:23

No, Niamh like....Niamh (pronounced Neeve).

nwybhs · 16/05/2019 20:29

Niamh? Like nymph? Nympho? Sounds awful

Well don't say it then.

AdoreTheBeach · 16/05/2019 21:05

I’ve only heard of the name on MN
