Toes out at work?

Yes or no?

The men don’t turn up in sandals sans socks. Company dress code only mentions no flip flops.

It’s customer facing.

I can’t decide if IABU or not but I think yuck every time I see someone else’s toes at work.

I think for women it's ok. I don't do it only because I don't like my toes though.

Xyzzzzz · 14/05/2019 19:57

Depends on the job I work in an office so it’s fine. But when I worked in retail which meant going up and down ladders it was a no.

Brefugee · 14/05/2019 19:59

Summer clothes (no tights, sandles, light dresses/skirts) are what I used to refer to as my perk as a woman and if men had a problem with it I'd turn up in a suit, tie, socks and shoes as long as I got paid the same and had the same chance of promotion.

I worked in a sexist company and they never took me up on it, didn't pay me the same as a male counterpart and never promoted me because I had children. Fuck it. It's one of the few times women "get one over on men" in the workplace Grin

HairycakeLinehan · 14/05/2019 20:00

Depending on the shoe.
Flip flop- no.
Nice sandals or strapped shoes-yes.

BlueJava · 14/05/2019 20:01

Depends on the job - I'd go with whatever is done by the majority! Where I work anyone can wear shorts, sandals, t-shirts etc. I've never known anyone be spoken to about it and we've had some outlandish stuff worn.

CloserIAm2Fine · 14/05/2019 20:01

Unless it’s a health and safety issue like catering or manual labour etc I can’t bring myself to particularly care what other people put on their feet.

Mac47 · 14/05/2019 20:06

Grosses me out. Especially when one woman in the staff room slips off her birkenstocks and puts her feet all over the seat opposite her. I'm running out of unsullied chairs to sit on.

Snog · 14/05/2019 20:09

I think it's fine if you have well groomed feet!
Moisturised and pedicured.

Upuntilrecently · 14/05/2019 20:11

Hmmm I personally dont think it looks very professional but lots of woman wear sandals at my work

MitziK · 14/05/2019 20:13

Dear Lord, no.

I work with hundreds of teenagers clumping around. Steel toecapped boots are more appropriate footwear with them around.

CupOhTea · 14/05/2019 20:15

Not in any of the offices I've worked in and definitely not in the restaurants or hotels which had a strict uniform policy.

CherryPavlova · 14/05/2019 20:16

I wouldn’t accept sandals for either men or women.

churchthecat · 14/05/2019 20:18

I work in a huge office and wear birks.

People wear all sorts; dungarees, suits, smart dresses, jeans, tie dye, anything. Dress code was abolished last year. 🤘

Pepperdino · 14/05/2019 20:18

Absolutely fine where I am. But it's a pretty relaxed working environment.

category12 · 14/05/2019 20:30

God no. We have enough moaning about the office temperature/air con already.

SheeshKebab · 14/05/2019 20:30

It was fine when I worked in an office. Everyone was in flip flops as soon as the sun was out! Very relaxed working environment, it was great.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 14/05/2019 20:40

I wear flip flops at work in the summer.Grin

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 14/05/2019 20:42

Ugh! I’m struggling to(e) cope with pretty manicured shiny polish toes, that would tip me over the edge!

Fine where I work - professional office

FairyBunnyAgain · 14/05/2019 20:49

I work in a relaxed office environment men and women have their ones out as soon as the sun comes out. Summer wear is shorts and dresses, customers come in, no problems. Some dress more formally throughout the year that’s their choice.

ASauvignonADay · 14/05/2019 20:51

Not allowed open toes at my work!

RottnestFerry · 14/05/2019 20:54

Flip flops are OK where I work for men and women, never mind sandals, as long as safety footwear is worn when appropriate.

NaturalBornWoman · 14/05/2019 20:55

I dress on the smarter side of smart casual as a senior manager in my fairly casual office environment and I wear heeled sandals with summer clothes. I do have immaculate feet.

MrsFogi · 14/05/2019 20:57

I was brought up to understand that no toes or armpits should be exposed at work.

adaline · 14/05/2019 20:57

No open toed shoes allowed here, but that's only because we do lifting of boxes and lots of running up and down stairs!
