Toes out at work?

Yes or no?

The men don’t turn up in sandals sans socks. Company dress code only mentions no flip flops.

It’s customer facing.

I can’t decide if IABU or not but I think yuck every time I see someone else’s toes at work.

My lecturers were, and still are, wearing suits, and the female are dressed just as traditionally

That may be the case at the institution you attended, but it certainly isn't universal and, based on my visits to other campuses, not that common these days.

At this institution, teaching staff wear pretty much what they want.

Not many seem to want to wear suits.

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 15:51

I did an arts subject in college and I don’t think I ever saw a lecturer wear a suit. Not once.

LynseyLou1982 · 15/05/2019 16:31

I have my toes out right now (in nkce smart wedge sandals) andni work in a professional office. I don't really notice what people have in their feet though horrid cracked heels make me gip a bit. I can't stand too hot feet in the summer

Eustasiavye · 15/05/2019 18:18

I really wish we had a more relaxed approach at work to clothing.
I'm expected to wear very smart, formal wear yet I often have to do practical jobs.
Just bloody ruined a fairly new pair of suit trousers 😠 at work. Now having to wear a full shoe in a hot, non air conditioned environment is awful.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/05/2019 18:41

I wear sandals from Easter to October usually. I can't cope with hot feet, and my classroom gets very hot in the summer months.

The kids aren't allowed sandals, they have to wear full shoes, but that's because they have to do practical subjects where it is a safety concern. Tech, art, science and pe teachers all wear full shoes too, but the rest of us where there isn't the safety concerns can wear sandals. Mine aren't exactly stylish, but they keep my feet cool and are comfortable for a full day of teaching.

We wouldn't wear flip flops though. The sandals we wear have to be strapped to our feet so we can still walk quickly without fear of tripping over flip flops.

I've never seen any male teachers wearing sandals, but I don't think it would be a big deal if they did, although the kids would make comments as that's what teen-agers do.

Loftyswops988 · 15/05/2019 18:50

In my last job i wore sandals pretty much most days (usually fisherman style ones if it was cooler), but it was quite a relaxed environment - in my current job we have to wear closed toe flat shoes in black or navy and pretty much everyone wears trainers because we spend the first few hours of the day on our feet! Sandals would definitely not be allowedl, so i guess it depends on where you work!

@Eustasiavye

Your workplace sounds like a professional environment with standards of decorum and etiquette. I'd contract with them in a minute. IME the offices that have proper dress codes and proper standards of behaviour and decency are the most successful and deliver the best quality output for clients.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 15/05/2019 18:59

I'd contract with them in a minute.

Because obviously staff that is uncomfortable and unhappy with the "uniform" are something to strive for.

Gimme a break.

Hefzi · 15/05/2019 19:03

At my university, the hierarchy are generally just glad that we manage to be clothed at all, quite honestly - if you are sitting in your office doing admin, does it really matter? That said, over the years, at various places, I've had colleagues who don't wear shoes at all. Ever. Even in winter. That, though, is generally considered to be a bit attention-seeking...

Shock horror, though: different workplaces follow different conventions. Who'd have thought it?

Haha, what a load of shit

TheDarkPassenger · 15/05/2019 19:43

I’d rather someone had their fanny out than their feet

DavetheCat2001 · 15/05/2019 19:46

I hate feet too.. just don't like the look of them.

OldAndWornOut · 15/05/2019 19:55

I quite like having a look at feet.
They're so individual to each person; like sculptures.

CheshireChat · 15/05/2019 19:57

@CloudyForest are you the poster who locked their employees until finish time and relegated them to copy duty if they quit? Grin

RickJames · 15/05/2019 20:00

Haha! at professional standards proven through footwear! At my job I can wear anything at all, I've also been invited to bring my dog to work (which I don't really want as she will do something embarrassing). I dress nicely because I like clothes but work just want good results and happy clients. I think that's sensible.

Waytooearly · 15/05/2019 20:05

I work in a law firm. We women wear sandals/slippers when we're working at desks. When we see clients we put on court shoes and blazer.

kenandbarbie · 15/05/2019 20:07

Depends on job really!

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 15/05/2019 20:47

I’ve had a google and they are similar to these but in black and it’s a front of house role although if HR, payroll, admin, accountant wore them I’m still feeling... ugh.

I suppose sling backs are different to Sandles, I have no idea. Without derailing my own thread, but, wtf...
