To find this unreasonable and offensive to women or is it just me?

Saw this on twitter and this rhetoric seems to be spreading. So is it just me or are others concerned with this? How does this help women and girls, especially with the turn this has taken in the US recently.

Not unreasonable or offensive. Just plain nuts.

Iloveredwoods · 11/05/2019 23:49

I am with you.

Jemima232 · 11/05/2019 23:49

Baffling.

I don't understand what it means by "all people who can get pregnant" - surely that just means women, or am I being dense?

MagicKingdomDizzy · 11/05/2019 23:52

I'm not even sure what point they're trying to make. It's badly written.

If they're saying that using the words 'women' and 'she' etc when discussing abortion is offensive to trans people, then yes, that is crazy Confused

mouldyhousemouldylife · 11/05/2019 23:52

That is the stupidest fucking thing I've seen all day. Only women can get pregnant so yes women is the appropriate term when discussing abortions. Christ on a bike. I'd rather be "transphobic" if it means understanding biology and using logic and reason.

VladmirsPoutine · 11/05/2019 23:52

They lost me at "cis". A made up term to give others validation at my expense.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 11/05/2019 23:53

Feelings don't supercede facts.

Tillygetsit · 11/05/2019 23:54

Ridiculous twaddle.

blackteasplease · 11/05/2019 23:54

They mean transmen i think. Who generally seem to be an unassuming, under represented bunch in the whole debate.

However I do disagree with this tweet. We need to be clear this is a women's issue because in great part it's about hating women. I wouldn't be bothered if they said "women and transmen" though.

goodwinter · 11/05/2019 23:55

I think you're very much preaching to the choir on MN.

nonsenceagain · 11/05/2019 23:56

YANBU

blackteasplease · 11/05/2019 23:57

I meant they are underrepresented in the debate about trans rights btw not in the debate about reproductive rights

Basically i do agree with the OP though!

goodwinter · 11/05/2019 23:59

Completely agree with you @blackteasplease. "Women and transmen" would be slightly clunky language but at least it wouldn't remove our ability to call out issues affecting women for what they are.

averylongtimeago · 12/05/2019 00:02

Just being a woman (the cunty sort) is being transphobic

Refer to me as "cis" and I stop listening.

StoppinBy · 12/05/2019 00:10

Surely it is some sort of post designed to cause offense and generate responses?

I would just ignore it, of course it's ridiculous.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 12/05/2019 00:18

Abortion is about a termination of a pregnancy, at the moment only women can get pregnant so using she/ her is not transphobic. It's relevant to the biological sex of the pregnant woman.

Bubblegumgal · 12/05/2019 00:20

I can understand both points of view. I mean from a factual point of view trans men also can get pregnant and would also be effected by this. So in that regard I think it’s important they’re also included so ‘people’ is probably the best pronoun. However, I think they could have worded their POV better. A lot of this stuff seems to be about just shouting everyone down rather than having sensible discussions around facts.

Nearlythere1 · 12/05/2019 00:21

@StoppinBy It would be great if we could just ignore it but the problem is the trans issue and the devaluing of women's rights is being aggressively pushed by the state, at a very, very fast pace considering how recently it all appeared. That's a problem.

nocoolnamesleft · 12/05/2019 00:25

Erasure of women.

Fairenuff · 12/05/2019 00:25

So they want the 'right' to be discriminated against because of their biology, whilst denying their biology?

donquixotedelamancha · 12/05/2019 00:25

Yep it's offensive. I can't stand the word 'folks'. Folk is already a plural, bugs bunny was being ironic

Oh yeah, I suppose erasing women is quite annoying too.

ReanimatedSGB · 12/05/2019 00:26

Another way of looking at it is that, quite simply, access to safe abortion is a human rights issue. No human being should be denied a medical procedure that human being wants to have, because of other random human beings' imaginary friends. Saying that human beings have to accept being used as containers against their will is a bad, wrong, stupid thing to say.

We're still kind of stuck with the idea that there are 'human beings' who have rights and 'women' who are not, quite, human beings and therefore don't have human rights...
