To find this unreasonable and offensive to women or is it just me?

Saw this on twitter and this rhetoric seems to be spreading. So is it just me or are others concerned with this? How does this help women and girls, especially with the turn this has taken in the US recently.

It should say “women (and transmen)”
It’s not offensive to either group and reflects that this in the very very large part a women’s issue.

IAmTheChosenOne · 12/05/2019 08:14

I don't understand what it means by "all people who can get pregnant" - surely that just means women, or am I being dense?

Some individuals transition from female to male and therefore identify as male, as is their legal right, but will still have a uterus and ovaries and therefore can still become pregnant.

I'm not sure how a female transitioning to male is 'eradicating safe spaces' because on the grounds that MN makes up its own laws to suit its self, a F to M transition is still F because he doesn't have penis, and we all know in MN World a penis is A. Very. Dangerous. Thing. So someone who doesn't have one is clearly a 'safe person' .

OddBoots · 12/05/2019 08:19

It's offensive to trans men to suggest that they are of such low intelligence and education that they think gender identity changes their sex. The trans men I know still know they are female, they wouldn't need to be trans otherwise.

Tunnockswafer · 12/05/2019 08:21

Women, know thy place.

Lifeinthelastlane · 12/05/2019 08:23

Iamthechosenone I’m quite sure you know that the poster wasn’t referring to trans men as being eradicators of safe spaces.
Interesting user name.

JAPAB · 12/05/2019 08:28

From what I can see, all it does is implore the use of inclusive language when discussing abortion services generally. Because after all, this is also relevant to trans men, intersex men, non-gender binary people etc etc.

That seems a bit of a bloody minded thing to get worked up about.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/05/2019 08:30

@IAmTheChosenOne

I'm not sure how a female transitioning to male is 'eradicating safe spaces'

In this specific context the space is metaphorical. OP is asserting that abortion is a women's rights issue.

MN makes up its own laws to suit its self, a F to M transition is still F because he doesn't have penis

Genuine question: do you really think a pregnant transman is male? I don't mean 'should be treated as male' because obviously people should be kind, I mean actually male because of what they wear or how they describe themselves.

Lifeinthelastlane · 12/05/2019 08:32

JAPAB what do all re identification categories you list have in common?
Go on, I think you know the answer.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/05/2019 08:40

That seems a bit of a bloody minded thing to get worked up about.

I'm stunned that anyone (even if you don't agree) cannot see why US women would want to discuss the effect of criminalising abortion on women and might be upset by being told not to.

JacquesHammer · 12/05/2019 08:49

I was involved in leading a discussion around m/c on Twitter.

It got picked up on by a TRA who started screaming that we weren’t being inclusive in our language.

The entire hour that should have been offering support to women who maybe weren’t able to access it was filled with bile and increasingly nasty comments.

Since the account in question has been deleted and they’ve started again under a slightly new name, doing exactly the same.

SaskiaRembrandt · 12/05/2019 08:51

The removal of women's reproductive rights is a bloody minded thing to be 'worked up about'?

No, just no. Women in the US are facing a concerted effort to eradicate rights they fought long and hard for. This is about women, actual biological women, and efforts to remove women from this are incredibly misogynistic. I know you have a track record of dismissing women JAPAB, but this time you've really outdone all your previous attempts.

theboomtownrat · 12/05/2019 08:53

Load of wank

dorisdog · 12/05/2019 08:53

They are referring to transmen, who, if they still have a womb can be pregnant.

If you're confused why didn't you ask whoever posted it on social media? Or did you post it here to whip up some outrage?

JAPAB · 12/05/2019 08:58

Lifeinthelastlane they all can get pregnant which is why this sort of thing is relevant to them all, and not just the women amongst them.

Yes yes I know you will now reply 'but they are all women' and tht is your ideology. Others are available.

I mean, you don't have to believe in same-sex marriage but it would be a tad bloody minded to object to a call simply to stop referring to marriage as if it is something only opposite-sex couples can have. To object to more neutral languyage that does not explicitly assume this.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/05/2019 08:59

There are steaming great piles of misogyny everywhere these days. Angry

Toorahtoorahaye · 12/05/2019 08:59

JIbjab has a track record if derailing threads to be the centre of attention and have scores of women flapping around him. He doesn’t even believe what he’s saying, just stirring. It’s up to you if you want to pander to him. I started this thread aimed at the women on mumsnet and what their thoughts were.

They are referring to transmen
Then they should say so then, should't they?

WalpurgisNight · 12/05/2019 09:01

Everyone on this thread who is new to this debate should know that every major political party in this country is signed up to this ideology.

Yes, this. He can not bear to see women discussing something that isn't him. It's a mind boggling level of self-absorption.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/05/2019 09:03

@JAPAB. Are you saying that being a woman is a subjective ideology? Could you clarify in what sense a pregnant transman is not a woman.

I don't mean we shouldn't treat them respectfully or understand the way they want their sex discussed, but you seem to be saying that their sex has literally changed- if so, how?

justarandomtricycle · 12/05/2019 09:05

I was going to do a joke, not a nasty one just wordplay, but it would potentially be a criminal offense now so I can't.

I thought the fact warranted mentioning because it helps explain the context of how open and honest the debate can be on these matters.

I, for one, welcome this stuff, it's great that cis women will finally stop oppressing everyone by having specific health care measures! All hail the party.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 12/05/2019 09:05

I started this thread aimed at the women on mumsnet and what their thoughts were.

At Lesbians on Chairs yesterday, Julia Long talked about how easily we all get caught up in reacting to men instead of focusing on women. I thought it was an excellent point.

JAPAB · 12/05/2019 09:06

Is the OP about the removal of reproductive rights? I thought the objection was more to the post calling for the subject to be discussed in more inclusive ways.
