to be super puzzled why my elbow stinks

what on earth...... I am clean. I am always clean. However for the past few days my right elbow (the crook of it) has been omitting a god awful stench. I can't wash it off. It is foul.

It smells like feet and rot and awfulness. There is no broken skin, it just looks like a normal elbow. WTF.

why is this happening? anyone got any ideas? soap isn't doing anything!

The ad I'm seeing on the app has a great tag line for this thread!

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2019 22:13

warmestregards

The stuff that comes out when you clean under you toe nails.

I guess it’s soap, skin, nail, dirt, sweat...🤷🏻‍♀️

I like the smell of mine.

Hohofortherobbers · 10/05/2019 22:15

Before you go to gp, try what gp is likely to suggest, soap wash and antiperspirant on your elbow, wash with a proper old school soap and get mitchum roll on or block on it

CMOTDibbler · 10/05/2019 22:16

When I had to wear a plastic splint for 6 months I developed a really stinky arm. Washing with dilute hibiscrub turned out to be the best way to control the manky smell. It was def fungal

My two fave things about this thread:

  1. OP, when you said you 'took Bombay Sapphire' earlier, I thought you meant you'd medicated yourself with it Grin
  1. This:

Top of my ears smell like this like the flat ridge between you heard and then where your ear rim. I wash my hair and wash there every day at same time and by evening they smell of belly button it's rank but a pretty moreish smell...

Yes! Me too, except my ear jam is a bit lower down. Rank but moreish, as you say.

Everyone give the back if your ears a good rub, then sniff your finger.

HastaLaVistaPrint · 10/05/2019 22:37

Something will burrow out soon, like the poster who had maggots in her skin last week. Mark my words.

MrsBadcrumble123 · 10/05/2019 22:37

GummyGoddess - oh yeah ha ha!!!

PegLegAntoine · 10/05/2019 22:58

I need to know if the elbow sniffer on the Newcastle train was a MNer (I may have missed an update though in my desperation to get an answer for smellbow)

I wish I’d thought of smellbow as a nickname for the band Elbow, we saw them supporting muse once and they’d certainly deserve it 😴😴😴

Sissyjd · 10/05/2019 23:37

I just rubbed behind my ears and sniffed...ffs..lol jyst smells like week old pilliw cases. Not as bad as toe jam..thats bluecheese burgery Ooof nastiness..and yes i do shower daily. Confused

6079SmithW · 10/05/2019 23:40

Happy to report that neither my ears or elbows smell 🙂

Do we know what's wrong with OP yet?

NCB2019 · 10/05/2019 23:53

Have you been on holiday somewhere exotic? Just thinking maybe something has burrowed under your skin (somewhere else on your person) and then the burrowing things have travelled to your elbows, been unable to escape and died! Thus the smellbowitis.

mimibunz · 10/05/2019 23:55

My favourite thread ever! Even better than the Sistine Screamer. Grin

This is exactly what Tim Berners-Lee hoped for when he invented the internet.

He invented the worldwide web, not the internet, but other than that pedantic detail, your point stands.

My money's on some sort of subcutaneous infection. I'd book a doctor's appt now, then see a pharmacist, and if the various cures of soap/hibiscrub/surgical spirit/Dettol bath/sudocreme/deodorant/Daktarin/Canestan/moonlit sacrifice and so on don't work, you'll have probably reached the time of the appointment, even if it's weeks ahead. And if it has gone before then, you can cancel the appointment.

OrangeSunsets · 11/05/2019 01:40

I had this! Except it was my left arm pit. Absolutely vile. No marks, no abrasions, not treated differently! It went after a few days. Bloody weird and vile! ‘‘Twas a fair few years ago but the smell stays as a strong memory. My DH suggested carbolic soap Hmm
It vanished before I had a chance...

moreismore · 11/05/2019 06:25

You need today’s Times! Article in the magazine.

Dillydallyalltheway · 11/05/2019 06:37

Great thanks samsamsamsamsamsam now my hubby is sitting staring at me like I’m some kind of idiot smelling my elbow Smile Smile it’s to early on a Saturday morning to Be doing this.
Btw, mine smells fine, which doesn’t help you I know.

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 11/05/2019 06:45

Is it your texting / phone using arm? I didn't get a smelly elbow but I got a small patch of Ezcema just on inside of one elbow. Realised it was the arm I text with so arm usually bent - so probably more sweaty / warm than the other side. Soon as I stopped texting etc it went.

Weenurse · 11/05/2019 07:23

👀🍷🍿

EZA15 · 11/05/2019 14:38

Dh had jock itch once and it was grim. I vomited when I smelt his crotch. That's not a sentence you're ever going to see in Mills & Boon ...

This is one of the best sentences I’ve ever read!

Shockers · 11/05/2019 15:17

Mine both smell of warm honey and hot skin.

Probably because I have honey and oat moisturiser on my arms and I’ve been out in the garden.

Go to the pharmacy and ask someone to have a sniff.

3luckystars · 11/05/2019 15:39

Do you play the fiddle?

accendo · 11/05/2019 15:46

Do you crook it under you to rest your head on your hand while you sleep? If so it's probably drool/morning breath!

TheLittleDogLaughed · 11/05/2019 17:28

3luckystars are you suggesting OP has the lesser known condition, musician's elbow?

samsamsamsamsamsam · 11/05/2019 17:43

Tim Berners Lee is my hero (tech job) So I am glad I am his raison d'etre.

Canesten ok so far. Can only smell that. Feels weird putting it on a clear elbow.

No ham in my nose. (I think)

That Jock itch story nearly made me gag ha ha!
