To get irrationally annoyed with people on social media boasting about how they've never watched Game of Thrones? (Lighthearted)

Ive noticed a lot over the past few weeks lots meme sharing 'I'm part of the 1% who's never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones' and similar. Why? That's fine if you don't want to watch it, but why tell everyone? It's seems excludive to GOT as well. Never before have I come across so much boasting not watching something that's popular

From off the top of my head Ive never seen a single Marvel Film, watched The Walking Dead, Lord of The Rings or Star Wars. I don't however spam my feed with silly memes trying to look like I'm superior for this.

I don't know whether to pity them or envy them? (Envy because they could always decide to watch it from the start for the very first time).

This boils my piss.

If they looked at the viewing figures, they'd see that they are actually in the majority. Bloody sheep!

SherlockSays · 01/05/2019 19:09

Ooo yes this annoys me so much!

whatwouldyoubelikeat28 · 01/05/2019 19:11

YABU I have to put up with convos on the daily about how goddamn great it is and how amazing and how blah blah blah blah blah
I dont watch much TV and virtually no film, just not into it as a medium, but I am utterly inundated by people insisting on giving me recaps sans spoilers... get out of my face! Even mumsnet is not immune it seems

DontVisitMe · 01/05/2019 19:40

The title literally has "Game of Thrones" in it. That's hardly in your face. You've come here to comment.

The80sweregreat · 01/05/2019 19:44

My sons love all these things but I've never seen Got lord of the rings any Star Wars ( I was 12 when the first one came out!) and I don't feel the need to watch them ever. Most si fi / marvel stuff is not my ' bag'.
Liked the Potter novels but the films were not as good.
People do think I'm odd though!

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 19:49

Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and Line of duty (and also a number of shows on netflix,) have people raving about them, and 10s of millions (even 100s of millions) watching them, and MASSIVE fan bases, because they are REALLY GOOD! Not because people are mindless sheep who copy what others say.

They are popular, and people rave over them, because they are very good. Do people not get that? Confused

As I said on a thread earlier, I have zero interest in Emmerdale, Strictly Come Dancing, Downton Abbey, and Lord of the rings/the Hobbit. I have tried to watch them a few times, and they leave me cold. They bore me.

So guess what? I don't watch 'em. And I certainly don't go on the fan forums, (or ANY forum,) slagging them off and telling everyone how much I hate them, and how I am not interested in them. I have had to tolerate dozens and dozens of tweets about EMMERDALE on my twitter timeline, every time I have been onto twitter this past 2 weeks. I am sick of seeing it and hearing about it. But I don't say anything, because I know some people like it.

If the Game of Thrones love is bothering people THAT much, then deactivate social media, stay off the internet, and don't watch TV. Or just stop moaning about it and slating it on the internet, and telling everyone how you don't watch it!

It's attention-seeking, and a bit pathetic.

SoyDora · 01/05/2019 19:51

I wonder if it's because is so popular and talked about that they feel like they are missing out so they are trying to deflect from that?

I doubt it’s that, because if they felt like they were missing out then they could just watch it, couldn’t they?
I’ve never seen the memes you’re talking about but have never seen an episode of GoT. I didn’t realise that was something people announced, I assumed a lot of people hadn’t seen it! If I felt I was missing out, I’d watch it 🤷🏻‍♀️

The80sweregreat · 01/05/2019 19:51

It has become a kind of ' religion'.
Ds2 set his alarm to watch it at 5 am on his phone! That's dedication. ( madness)
Then watched it again when he got home from work on tv. All his friends seem obsessed by it.
I like Eastenders though and that's just as bad I suppose.

bellinisurge · 01/05/2019 19:58

Seriously, please relax about the fact that some people haven't watched GoT.

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 20:02

No-one gives a shit that some people haven't watched it. It's the pathetic bragging and announcing on social media that they have never watched it that people are objecting to.

No-one gives a shit that you haven't watched it. Why do you need to crow about it? Confused

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 01/05/2019 20:09

I'd just like to point out that not only have I never watched it, but I'm too superior to bother telling my friends I haven't watched it, which puts me two notches above you.

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 20:11

I'd just like to point out that not only have I never watched it, but I'm too superior to bother telling my friends I haven't watched it, which puts me two notches above you.

It really doesn't.

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 20:12

You have just announced it on here fiddlesticks - that you don't watch Game of Thrones....

Epic fail. Sad

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 01/05/2019 20:14

It really doesn't.

Moreover I'm pretty sure that none of my friends would have heard of it, whatever it is. Three.

ShirleyPhallus · 01/05/2019 20:19

Can we also make a special mention to those people who come on to threads on MN just to announce they have no idea who the person being discussed is or that they don’t care? Do they think it makes them superior to not have heard of celebrities?

3luckystars · 01/05/2019 20:19

@MrsBethel
There are jokes in Shakespeare plays? I did two of them in school and they were the opposite of funny. I must have missed the humour completely.

Maybe those people laughing are just happy to be out like the people who laugh really loudly at ads in the cinema.

I only started watching game of thrones recently because everyone was talking about it so much. My sister has been telling me to watch it for years. I think some people just really really love it.

Myopinionsaremine · 01/05/2019 20:22

I watched half of first episode that was enough for me Wink

Doobigetta · 01/05/2019 20:25

It’s mildly irritating. But it’s a shame really, because how much enjoyment has GOT given fans? How many hows of pleasure watching it, reading about it and talking about it? It’s a shame if others miss out on that.

Breaking Bad makes me laugh though. Whenever I say I tried it and couldn’t get into it, people say, ooh, you need to give it until season four, then it gets really good. Who’d bother with that?

SoyDora · 01/05/2019 20:27

But it’s a shame really, because how much enjoyment has GOT given fans? How many hows of pleasure watching it, reading about it and talking about it? It’s a shame if others miss out on that

The thing is though, not everyone likes the same things. So they won’t necessarily me ‘missing out’, as they may not enjoy it anyway.

BertieBotts · 01/05/2019 20:27

Because it's quite funny/confusing to see everyone freaking out massively over game of thrones at the moment when you have no idea what they are talking about.

Sort of makes you feel like you might be the only one who isn't interested.

I'm sure it is very good but it's not my thing at all. I admit to being slightly curious though at just why everyone is "shaking" and "unable to sleep" and "unable to focus on normal life" at the moment and also why the episodes need to be watched in the middle of the night? I don't care about spoilers because I am 100% sure I will never ever watch it so if anyone feels like filling me in :o

RomanyQueen1 · 01/05/2019 20:27

I've not seen it either, I find it hard getting into things that have a long story. I don't think it's anything to boast about or feel superior about.
It's great that it brings so many people pleasure.
Maybe they are jealous and think they are missing something, or why else would they want to piss on your chips.

SoyDora · 01/05/2019 20:29

Maybe they are jealous and think they are missing something, or why else would they want to piss on your chips

But if that was the case, surely they’d just watch it?

RomanyQueen1 · 01/05/2019 20:35

soy

Maybe they don't have the time to keep it up.
I'm like this and also cba, it's not my thing.
I just can't think of any reason to spoil it for others that do enjoy it, it's like saying I'm better because I don't watch it.

crispysausagerolls · 01/05/2019 20:36

DontVisitMe

Excellent meme

WillGymForPizza · 01/05/2019 20:46

There's a big difference in people saying that they don't watch it and the silly memes that im talking about in the OP.
