To get irrationally annoyed with people on social media boasting about how they've never watched Game of Thrones? (Lighthearted)

Ive noticed a lot over the past few weeks lots meme sharing 'I'm part of the 1% who's never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones' and similar. Why? That's fine if you don't want to watch it, but why tell everyone? It's seems excludive to GOT as well. Never before have I come across so much boasting not watching something that's popular

From off the top of my head Ive never seen a single Marvel Film, watched The Walking Dead, Lord of The Rings or Star Wars. I don't however spam my feed with silly memes trying to look like I'm superior for this.

I don't know whether to pity them or envy them? (Envy because they could always decide to watch it from the start for the very first time).

Gotta say, some people some people seem to be taking it a bit seriously here.

LittleAndOften · 01/05/2019 16:39

I haven't seen any of The Antiques Road Show OR University Challenge.

EmeraldShamrock · 01/05/2019 16:46

I do watch marvel d.c avengers, endgame was amazing, I am not totally out of touch with popular trends.
I am not on FB and never discuss GoT in RL much to DPs disappointment.

SneakyGremlins · 01/05/2019 16:47

I've never seen Star Wars, GOT, Harry Potter.... I don't mention it though, I only bring it up when I get asked if I like the shows/films.

TheCatDidSay · 01/05/2019 16:50

I get fed up of hearing all about a show I have no interest in so I take part in the posts taking about never watching it where those annoying GOT watchers come on to tell us how wrong we all are and that we should give it a chance. All I know about it is it contains incest, a throne and something about earning a queen and buying a whore. Doesn’t really sound up my street.

Cranky17 · 01/05/2019 16:53

@DontVisitMe

I’ve seen loads of those meme with khallesi and really don’t get them amcan you explain to me,

Cranky17 · 01/05/2019 16:54

Doesn’t really sound up my street. each to their own but it is so much more

TheInebriati · 01/05/2019 16:55

I don't get how its boasting to say you;ve never watched it. SM is full of GOT memes, are they also boasting?

SleepingSloth · 01/05/2019 17:05

It's attention seeking. Why else would you put on social media that you haven't watched a hugely popular programme? It screams 'look at me, I'm different and want you to comment on that.'

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 01/05/2019 17:08

I've never watched it. Is it on Sky? I don't have Sky TV.

I haven't read it because for some reason I thought there was about 15 books (no clue where I got that idea from!) and don't have time for reading lots of long books.

I don't post memes about it though, but will tell friends if they talk about, but much in the way I will tell them about all the other millions of programmes I don't watch (I don't tend to watch much tv)

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 17:42

YANBU. It's very annoying when people feel the need to rattle on about something they are NOT interested in.

It's sad, and attention-seeking. We give zero shits that you are not interested.

Tightarseparent1 · 01/05/2019 17:44

My DH purposely leaves the room when the theme tune comes on... like I’m arsed! Grin

WOW @Tightarseparent1 the intro to GoT is SOOOOOOOOOO good. Why does your DH leave the room? The intro is lush. Grin

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/05/2019 18:31

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats it's on Sky Atlantic (which we don't get on Virgin hence why I've not watched it) and there's currently probably permanently 7 books. They are very long though.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 01/05/2019 18:33

I love making this spiced vegetable biryani link because it all goes in one large oven tray in the oven, it is vegan and very delicious. However, BIG WARNING, the recipe specifies an insane amount of rice, probably more than double you need. I measure out 2 small mugs of rice for 4 of us (and double the amount of stock) and it is plenty.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 01/05/2019 18:34

Lol! sorry wrong thread Grin.

GreytExpectations · 01/05/2019 18:42

@bibbitybobbityyhat thsnks for the laugh! 😂😂

SneakyGremlins · 01/05/2019 18:43

Now I'm hungry!

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 01/05/2019 18:45

Did you know 46% of statistics are made up....

Did you know 46% of statistics are made up....

Hmm, I heard it was 87.3496%

curiositycreature · 01/05/2019 18:51

bibbitybobbityyhat that sounds like my kind of meal! Very happy about your cross posting! Plus I think generally this thread had actually come to a consensus: the people who post those things on FB are attention seeking idiots. Not sure I’ve ever seen such a unanimous AIBU thread.

NoTheresa · 01/05/2019 18:55

I never have. Nothing to boast about but just not my sort of programme. Equally dislike anything else in that genre.

ForalltheSaints · 01/05/2019 18:56

I don't have satellite tv and never have done. So it's one of a number of programmes that I have not seen, Breaking Bad being another example. I don't mention it on social media as it is no great deal.

DontVisitMe · 01/05/2019 18:57

@Cranky17 - It's just mocking the people who say they're proud to have never watched GoT, implying Dany is saying it in a silly voice.
