To ask how long your induction took?

Apologies if this thread has been done before!

Currently in hospital having DC1. Had an examination and was told my cervix had already softened and midwife could feel baby's head.

I've had the first propess so now just a waiting game Sad

How long did it take for you?

I had the drip after waters being broken.

If you do-ask for an epidural first!
It made for a much nicer, relaxed experience. And I figured if forceps, section etc were needed at least I was already numb 🤷‍♀️

Good luck!!

K456789 · 29/04/2019 05:55

Pessary at 10am and dd born 8am following day. That said they only broke my waters at 2am as there was a shortage of beds, otherwise it would have been alot sooner. I had drip at 4am (2cm) and fully dilated at 7am. I had diamorphine with the gas and air. Good luck x

K456789 · 29/04/2019 05:57

Just to add I was 37 weeks and terrified of the drip as read horror stories being a first time mum. It definitely wasn't as bad as I imagined but couldn't have done it without the diamorphine.

GPatz · 29/04/2019 06:04

I have had two inductions. The last one was three weeks ago and a VBAC at 38 weeks (gestational diabetes). They were able to break my waters easily. Was put on the drip at 2cm and after 7 hours on drip I had only progressed to 3cm. Was advised to have a C Section (they were worried that prelonged use of the drip could rupture my previous CS scar). Begged for another 2 hours after which I promised I would have a spinal block and c-section. In that two hours I progressed from 3cm to 10cm and final stage took 45 minutes. So about 15 hours in total.

A vast improvement on my first induction which took 40 hours.

I also cannot believe the difference in recovery. I know it's tempting to have c-section, but I found it a much quicker recovery with the VBAC

2 x pessarys did nothing for me. Then they put me on the drip. Baby born extremely quickly about an hour later, just before midwife came into the room to see if my cervix had 'soften'. Needless to say it had! From waters breaking (at home) to delivery was 76 hours. Length of labour was simply noted in my notes as 'very rapid'. Good luck, baby will be here soon.

Confusednewmum1 · 29/04/2019 06:05

Honestly you need to go and have sex. We did in the bathroom off the day room, when I was being induced after about an hour before they were due to put in 3rd pessary. Sorry to be graphic but we didn’t finish inside because well the midwifes would have noticed as was due the 3rd pessary. Anyway 30 minutes after finishing, waters went. Contractions started 20 mins laters and a baby was born 2 hours later. It was really fast and pain horrific, no time for anything other than gas and air, baby was back to back 2. Honestly just do it, from eating lunch at 12:30, quickie in the loo, to having baby at 4pm on ward for visitors at 6pm

Pinkyponkcustard · 29/04/2019 07:14

In my experience it will be drip and waters breaking next unless baby is deemed as being in distress and then it will be an c section

Pinkyponkcustard · 29/04/2019 07:17

It is so frustrating, I was knackered by the time they got me on the drip cos of all the bouncing/walking/noise on the ward. The section wasn’t so bad honestly. It was a means to an end, you feel like you’re never going to get off the mat ward.

LutherRalph1 · 29/04/2019 07:18

4 days of nothing, waters broken, drip and then being in labour to birth was less than 3 hours

toastfiend · 29/04/2019 07:43

13 hours from prostaglandin gel to baby. Possibly a slightly different scenario, though, as my waters had broken at 35 weeks so they put the gel in, waited 4 hours, examined me and then put me straight on the syntocinon drip. Could have taken significantly longer if they'd gone with inserting the gel several times, but they wouldn't due to the risk of infection as my waters had gone.

hammeringinmyhead · 29/04/2019 07:46

7 hours from pessary to birth, labour being 3.5 hours. My waters had broken 24 hours before though.

I think they will want to use the drip next.

londonrach · 29/04/2019 07:52

30 mins then fully dilated. A couple of hours later dd here. Very intense. Dh didnt even have time to go and get bag of dd clothes. Saying that preferred that to a long labour not knowing when it start. I had very good reasons but i demanded an induction at full term.

GruciusMalfoy · 29/04/2019 07:56

I was as 3cm dilated already (was being indixed a bit early) so had my waters broken and put on the drip. It started fast and was really intense, labour lasted just under 6 hours.

I'd also agree that if it had to do it again I'd have asked for an epidural ASAP. I left it too late. Good luck!

newmumFeb17 · 29/04/2019 08:02

Mine took almost 5 days!

2 x 24 hour pessarys (with a 12 hour gap in between as they were busy).
They wanted to do another pessary but I refused as i was so fed up.
They then miraculously decided they could break my waters after all, which they did on the Monday around 11pm. Gave it a couple of hours, nothing happened so went on the drip (had an epidural first).
Then dilated super slowly despite drip being on full, my DD was finally born on the Wednesday just after midnight! She was just too comfy and clearly didn't want to budge, I was 41+4 by this point.
Currently 39 weeks with number 2 so I got over it 😂 just hoping I can avoid induction this time!
Good luck OP. It is so worth it in the end!

AvengersAssemble · 29/04/2019 11:51

LittleAndOften · 04/05/2019 18:04

Waters broke, then 24 hours of labour (got to 4cm), put on drip and all progress stopped. 12 hours later had emcs. Good luck OP!
