Apologies if this thread has been done before!

Currently in hospital having DC1. Had an examination and was told my cervix had already softened and midwife could feel baby's head.

I've had the first propess so now just a waiting game Sad

How long did it take for you?

Eight hours from pessary to baby. He was my second though and my first spontaneous Labour was just as quick. They actually had to take the pessary out after less than an hour as I was contracting so much and later had to give an injection to slow the contractions as neither me nor the baby was getting a break in between them. Only had gas and air (same as first). Good luck!

43 hours

CountFosco · 28/04/2019 23:35

I had 2 inductions. First one pessary didn't have much effect but drip got me started. Officially ~14h labour but more like 30 after given pessary. Second child perfect natural birth, third child in labour for less than 2h and 10mins to go from 5cm to birth. He came early and fast and hasn't stopped since Grin.

CountFosco · 28/04/2019 23:37

Sorry, third child didn't need a pessary, drip started effective contractions within an hour.

SidekickSally · 28/04/2019 23:38

4 days. Contractions came on and off several times in that time. I got to about 9 1/2cm but then baby DD got distressed and I ended up with CS. All ended well but I was soooooo tired!

thefirsttimer · 28/04/2019 23:43

30 hours from pessary to baby

AfterTrentham · 28/04/2019 23:49

Eight hours from pessary to EMCS. The midwives didn't believe I was in labour until near the end! Luckily I kept making a fuss so I was examined regularly and a problem was picked up promptly, allowing my baby to be delivered safe and well via EMCS.

OnGoldenPond · 28/04/2019 23:52

A week.

Rushed me in after diagnosing pre eclampsia telling me it was essential for baby to be delivered that day.

Given prostaglandin gel that evening. Didn't work. No further treatment given as kept being told no room in delivery suite. Blood pressure taken hourly by nurses who kept sucking their teeth and pronouncing "it's very high" but couldn't do anything about it.

After a week of this told nurse I was going to discharge myself if they wouldn't treat me. Mass scramble to get doctor to talk to me, booked in for drip induction next morning.

Next morning put on drip and DS born 3 hours later.

One week and 3 hours after being admitted as an emergency.

Sheesh.

Still makes me rage 18 years later Angry

HelpAFattieOutHere · 28/04/2019 23:57

60 hours from pessary to birth. Waters broke after 24 hours and the second pessary. Drip started 24 hours after that and born 12 hours later.

Nat6999 · 29/04/2019 00:03

To be totally honest if I was you I would either demand a section or go home, rest, relax, get some sleep & food & give it a couple of days to see if things will happen more naturally.

Triglesoffy · 29/04/2019 00:07

Hope you are safely delivered and that the mother and baby are doing well!

incogneto · 29/04/2019 00:22

Unfortunately not allowed to go home and relax as high risk. Nothing more I would love to be in the comfort of my own home though, the ward has been driving me crazy!

3 women have delivered since I've been here Saturday morning.

They're going to examine me tomorrow morning to see if waters can be broken, if not then consultant will be deciding next course or action.

I did say I would dread a section but at this point I think I would welcome it just to meet baby

Almost four days. Coerced into an induction at 39 wks for a “big baby”, poor treatment by consultants, cervix wasn’t near favourable , 3 cm and ended in emcs, baby was only 6 14. Reported my treatment during pregnancy and labour and hospital found no medical reason for the induction in the first place and didn’t find out until my second pregnancy that certain protocols weren’t followed. Put me off ever having inductions and wary of consultants.

incogneto · 29/04/2019 00:38

@phoenixrosehere Shock that's terrible.

I do have a feeling I'll end up having a section too..

My only advice is to move as much as possible. I had spontaneous natural delivers 3h, and 1 hr 40min, so never been induced. But on both the day and previous days I had them I’d been walking loads- to a country fair, Doug the monthly food shop, painting the kitchen- that type of thing. Good luck!!! Your beautiful baby will be here very soon!!! Then you have him for a life time❤️

YerAWizardHarry · 29/04/2019 00:47

27hrs from hormone drip to emergency section

AGirlinLondon · 29/04/2019 00:49

Exactly 24 hours from propess going in - felt like absolutely nothing was happening and then BOOM there was the baby!!

OP i had a very kind midwife who told me that while she had to examine me every four hours, in between times she ‘didn’t know where I was’ - ie permission to escape and go home. We enjoyed a last normal night on the couch as a result. Try escaping!! 😂

AGirlinLondon · 29/04/2019 00:52

Ps mine was an ‘emergency’ also for reduced movement. I wasn’t ready at all.

LeSquigh · 29/04/2019 00:59

Sorry nothing has happened for you yet OP. Mine took 6 days after being taken in with pre eclampsia. Pessaries didn’t work and only when I had the drip did anything start. I had a csecrion the second time and I really wish I had had one with the first.

PatricksRum · 29/04/2019 01:31

7 days Blush

stopgap · 29/04/2019 02:36

5 hours. It was my second child.

He didn’t come out with a pessary or breaking my waters, so I had Pitocin and it all flew by after that.

incogneto · 29/04/2019 02:40

Does anyone know if they usually just put you in straight for a c section if the pessarys don't work or would it then be time for the drip?

OP posts:
Boobahs · 29/04/2019 03:02

I had 4 (!) gels of which none worked and my waters were too high to break, after 4 days they tried to break them anyway despite me repeatedly asking for a C-Section (as I knew that was where it was heading).

After trying to break my waters twice, they put me on the drip and I was effectively strapped to the bed (so no moving around to help things). The drip didn't kick in until I'd been on the highest dosage for hours and hours, only for me to end up having an epidural and then an EMCS after failure to dilate. They told me afterwards that his head was nowhere near engaged and he wouldn't have come naturally Hmm

I'm booked in for an elective with DS2 in less than 3 weeks, I couldn't go through that again. Hope you have a better experience than me! Biscuit

PatricksRum · 29/04/2019 03:08

I had the drip.
I think you go to the drip first but you could request a section.
