Unpopular opinion but AIBU to think that she is talking rubbish? She was on This Morning showing us all how to wash our face and telling us how bad face wipes are. Apparently they just move make up around your face, which is wrong interesting.
Considering it is basically her job to flog skincare, of course she is going to try and tell everyone to ditch them.
Prepared to be told otherwise but maybe she's just been using the wrong wipes 😁

I wouldn’t use face wipes simply because they’re not exactly environmentally friendly.

wishingitwasfriday · 26/04/2019 17:35

No idea on the science but my face always feels cleaner when washed with face wash and water rather than wipes. Also, wipes are incredibly bad for the environment so I think it's good that people are trying to discourage the use of them.

peaner · 26/04/2019 17:36

I wouldn't use wipes on my face as they strip my skin and leave it feeling stingy and still not clean and also wipes are awful for the environment.

MustardScreams · 26/04/2019 17:36

Make up wipes are good in a pinch but they don’t clean your skin properly. A good double cleansing is the best way.

I don’t rate her at all, I’ve tried her recommended products and none stand out. Sali Hughes is my makeup/skincare go-to.

If you want to carry on using wipes no one's stopping you. Personally I prefer to wash my face as I find I have to scrub too hard with wipes and they leave my face feeling dry and tight. I don't think she is talking rubbish, but you are of course entitled to your opinion.

ReputationPrecedesMe · 26/04/2019 17:38

I definitely agree they are not good for the environment. Forgot to say that.
All the plastic bottles of cleansers etc not great either.

I'll bite, OP: what exactly is wrong with washing your face rather than wiping with landfill fodder?

Imfinehowareyou · 26/04/2019 17:39

I follow her face cleansing routine using products from Superdrug/supermarkets and it really works for me.

EntirelyAnonymised · 26/04/2019 17:39

What’s wrong with her skin, out of interest?

Lottapianos · 26/04/2019 17:41

Wipes are minging OP. Use a proper cleanser and a warm wet flannel. Your skin will thank you for it. Your cleanser absolutely does not have to be expensive - one from the pound shop will do just fine so long as your skin gets on with it. Starting to double cleanse every evening with a cleanser and flannel is one of the best things I've ever done for my skin and costs pennies

Shmithecat2 · 26/04/2019 17:43

My skin has dramatically changed for the better since I started taking her advice. I think she's fab. And no, it's not her job to flog skincare.

lhw92 · 26/04/2019 17:46

I don’t like how people especially beauty vloggers believe and follow everything she says regarding skin advice. She is not a dermatologist!

That being said I find it rude how people are saying she has awful skin Hmm I follow Dr Anjali Mahto (a real knowledgeable expert) and she still doesn’t have perfect skin (prone to cystic acne) because unfortunately not all of us are lucky to have good genes

Wallabyone · 26/04/2019 17:46

What is double cleansing, exactly? Do you use two different cleaners? Also, if I use white flannels, will they clean up in the wash?

lhw92 · 26/04/2019 17:51

@wallabyone essentially cleansing your face twice. Once to remove SPF and/or makeup, then secondly to actually cleanse your face

Most people would use different cleansers to be more efficient for e.g. micellar water or an oil based cleanser are more effective at removing makeup. Secondly going in with whatever cleanser works for your skin type

Lottapianos · 26/04/2019 17:51

Wallaby, you only need to double cleanse if you wear make up and / or SPF. The idea is that the first cleanse (ideally a cleansing balm or oil) shifts the make up, then the second cleanse (something lighter like a cleansing lotion) cleans the skin that's underneath. You only do one cleanse in the morning but always use a flannel. No idea about white flannels I'm afraid, I always use a dark colour because they get filthy!

Alsohuman · 26/04/2019 17:53

I’ve used a wipe and then cleansed with balm cleanser and a flannel. The amount of crap that came off on the flannel was mind blowing. Wipes are shit and I’ll never stop cleansing properly now. It’s like the difference between wafting a feather duster round and spring cleaning.

Shmithecat2 · 26/04/2019 17:54

Wallabyone you can use different cleansers, but you don't have to. If you wear a full face of makeup/spf etc, an oil based cleanser is a good first cleanse, as the oil is great at breaking down the coverage. The second cleanse can be a cream/gel based cleanser, to clean the skin (as opposed to removing the makeup).

EntirelyAnonymised · 26/04/2019 17:54

I use muslin cloths rather than flannels but I use them once or twice and chuck them in the wash. They are washed at high temp with other whites and a dash of napisan. They come out as new.

Mapril · 26/04/2019 17:55

Personally I think she has beautiful skin. And I agree with her on the wipes.

I don't put too much store in her advice on the whole, I think she's far too closely involved with the brands to be impartial and sometimes it's very obvious she's in some kind of deal. She's also not very scientific-y, I prefer Nadine Baggot on that score, who actually knows what she's talking about.

maddening · 26/04/2019 17:55

I use tissue and baby oil

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/04/2019 18:00

Hold up!

Do you mean someone has a whole career based on telling you to clean your made up face the way women have been doing for centuries?

And I thought I already despaired... where does all the that knowledge / common sense drain away too and what the fuck have I forgotten?

Lottapianos · 26/04/2019 18:02

'I prefer Nadine Baggot on that score, who actually knows what she's talking about.'

I agree, Nadine really knows her stuff. The products that Caroline Hirons recommends are always ££££, so I tend to ignore them. £45 for a cleanser? Hmm No thanks! Her advice about methods though (acid toning, cleansing, retinol etc) is good

BelleSausage · 26/04/2019 18:02

I use soap, water and flannel. Perfect.

I do use an expensive moisturiser on top.
