Unpopular opinion but AIBU to think that she is talking rubbish? She was on This Morning showing us all how to wash our face and telling us how bad face wipes are. Apparently they just move make up around your face, which is wrong interesting.
Considering it is basically her job to flog skincare, of course she is going to try and tell everyone to ditch them.
Prepared to be told otherwise but maybe she's just been using the wrong wipes 😁

She's great, she looks fab, I can't understand anyone bitching about her appearance unless you're deliberately trying to be disgusting.

I don't read/ watch much of her stuff any more because I learned a lot and found stuff that suits me; I don't need to constantly try new products but I'll refer to her website when needed.

Pumperthepumper · 26/04/2019 19:33

She’s great, her advice totally changed my skin - I’d agree that her earlier stuff was probably more useful, before she went down the same-agent-as-Zoella route but agree with a PP who said she’s the gateway for many women who don’t know where to start.

With the CH threads though you always get 1) the ‘soap and water never did me any harm’ crowd who cannot fathom that some people have dry skin that reacts to soap, or oily skin that hates water, or dehydrated skin that gets MORE hydrated with soap and water or people like me who have a miserable combination of sensitive, dehydrated skin with oily patches - if I put imperial leather on my face you’d be able to see it from the moon.

  1. People gleefully crowing that CH has shit skin, which she absolutely doesn’t. These people never come back with any evidence of her shit skin, because it doesn’t exist.
TheMarbleFaun · 26/04/2019 19:41

I stopped watching her YouTube videos when I realised you can't get through them without her mentioning "The States" or " L.A"
Try it!

mamamooloo · 26/04/2019 19:44

I think she looks fab and is totally true to herself, she's an absolute natural on tv and her insta stories are hilarious! I barely follow her skin routines I just thinks she's brilliant to listen to,
But no idea how anyone can slate her skin ?! It's completely glowing?

Quintella · 26/04/2019 19:50

Not sure what's so 'TERRIBLE' about her skin? Confused

She's not an ex-model or a super slim beauty editor. Is that perhaps what annoys some people about her appearance?

I don't really follow her much anymore, I feel I know which products works and which ones merely an overly expensive humectant but I absolutely agree with her on wipes. They're crap for your skin and for the environment. Double cleansing makes my skin glow. And it's a lovely relaxing part of my day.

autumnboys · 26/04/2019 19:50

Her advice completely changed my skin for the better. I enjoy her insta stories. I think her skin looks amazing & agree we’re so used to airbrushes & filters we’ve forgotten what normal skin really looks like.

SuperCoop3r · 26/04/2019 19:55

I know Caroline personally and she's a decent person. She's not my best buddy and I'm not posting as her bezzie to defend her but these horrible, personal posts are just beyond the pale. Some of you rude and unpleasant women need some lessons in manners.

You can agree with her advice or you can disagree with it but it just shows you up to be an absolute bitch when you start bringing her appearance into it.

Let's see a photo of you so we can make some judgements. Any takers?

ReadWriteDraw · 26/04/2019 19:58

Caroline Hirons has beautiful skin. It’s glowing and healthy and yes she has business trips to the US but it’s her job and she’s made a bloody brilliant success of it.

She’s worked in this industry her whole life and works flipping hard. So much jealousy on this thread.

lhw92 · 26/04/2019 19:59

Agree with PP who says she needs to focus on her own appearance. Her skin, makeup , hair and just overall look are all really bad. I know that sounds mean but if you are promoting beauty you need to take care of yourself to really sell the image.

Sad to me that some people think like this

Personally I’m only interested in evidence/scientific based skincare and beauty tips
I’m not interested in watching the naturally gorgeous vloggers being paid to endorse things they don’t even use, with inaccurate knowledge of skincare

(I’m saying this as someone who isn’t even a huge fan of CH)

BringMeTea · 26/04/2019 20:05

Agree with Quintella. She has lovely skin. But she is over 40 and not skinny so therefore she must be unattractive. What a load of shite. Mumsnet never used to have so many thick posters. Sadface...

YesQueen · 26/04/2019 20:08

I like her Smile some of her advice has changed my skin completely. I watch other skin/makeup stuff too and I buy what I can afford. She's often recommended budget-mid range products which have worked really well for me

Face wipes are not going to shift SPF and a full face of makeup especially with long wear makeup and even dermatologists are saying that. The stuff is designed to stay on, you need something to break it down and remove it. Plus less waste - wash the flannels, recycle the bottle/jar
That could be a Superdrug cleanser or a Clarins one, it's whatever you like and is within your budget

augustusglupe · 26/04/2019 20:11

I’m 54, my skin looks ok for my age I think.
My mum started me on Clearasil when I was 10. I’ve always looked after my skin and I agree with her about the cleanser and hot cloth, but I’ve always massaged it in and then patted to lift away the debris and then wiped with the flannel, sweeping upwards.
I like Caroline Hirons but I don’t need her advice on how to cleanse my face.

ControversialFerret · 26/04/2019 20:12

I think she's got very good skin. She looks like what she is - a middle aged woman who isn't botoxed to buggery, which is quite refreshing really.

I agree with the comment about her being the gateway to taking better care of your skin. Double cleansing was a complete game-changer for me (and you only need to do it if you've been wearing SPF or makeup).

Yes she does tend towards expensive products, but every so often she does a budget review. My skincare routine isn't pricy at all - I use body shop cleansers which are under a tenner, Korean products bought off eBay for SPF, serums and oils all of which are normally less than a tenner and the whole lot gets topped off with a jollop of Olay, which is the best all round moisturiser I've found.

ControversialFerret · 26/04/2019 20:13

Oh and Clearasil 5 in 1, which is a fantastic salycilic acid toner and not expensive.

Sciurus83 · 26/04/2019 20:19

Oh stop it meanies she has great skin and since following her advice my skin for one has improved tenfold. Yes the products she recommends are mostly out of the price range of, well anyone I know, but she tells you how the ingredients work, where to spend a bit more (serums) and where to save and gives budget options. If you don't like her don't watch!

stoplickingthetelly · 26/04/2019 20:23

I really like Caroline Hirons. After I started watching her I ditched the wipes and started double cleansing, acid toning etc and my skin has never been better. I look younger and my makeup sits much better, Although I don’t use all of the expensive brands that she recommends.

Pharlapwasthebest · 26/04/2019 20:25

I’ve never heard of her, so I looked her up. What are you horrible people on about?
Her skin is GORGEOUS, she glows, really glows.
I can’t understand why anyone would say otherwise?

Sparkletastic · 26/04/2019 20:34

Wipes are shit.
She has great skin.
She recommends products from £5 to £300 as long as they are good.
She's bossy and caustic but she knows what she's talking about.
Thank you. Next?

U2HasTheEdge · 26/04/2019 20:45

I think she has lovely skin. Glowing and lovely.

I used to follow her routine but I needed roaccutane. I will probably go back to it when I can use products on my face.

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2019 20:50

I don't think using so many products could be good for your skin.

YesQueen · 26/04/2019 21:00

@JaneJeffer it's not using loads necessarily. You could just cleanse, moisturise and use an SPF
But I need an acid for my acne, I use retinol for anti ageing and I like to have choices for whether it's winter/summer or my skin is more dry or oily, a lighter cleanser for if I'm not wearing makeup etc etc
Caroline obviously uses and tests a lot because it's her job, it's like working for a makeup brand - you would wear loads of looks but you won't wear ALL the products at once!

Alsohuman · 26/04/2019 21:02

Why on earth not? Because a bit of sackcloth and a bar of carbolic would be better?

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2019 21:03

Because it's stripping your skin which weakens it in the long run.

BabyNameQ · 26/04/2019 21:03

My skin improved dramatically when I stopped using wipes and started actually washing my face. Wipes just rub stuff round your face and leave chemicals on it IMO.

I’d much rather take advice from someone who embraces what they look like rather than has loads of surgery or constantly face tunes via apps or is only ever really seen when airbrushed in magazines. She doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what she is and that is bloody refreshing in an industry saturated with BS.

And for those of you commenting on her appearance you are just mean and nasty and you should take a long hard look at why you think it’s ok to say stuff like that. Happy people are rarely mean, just a thought......

Quintella · 26/04/2019 21:05

it's stripping your skin which weakens it in the long run.

Sounds scientific
