To hate how I look now I'm older.

I know it's ridiculous and probably quite shallow, but just lately I seem to have aged rapidly. I was horrified at my old looking face at the hairdressers earlier. I used to like the way I looked, was always told I was beautiful, now I feel invisibible. Anyone else mourn their lost looks?

I was very flattered recently ,when a lady at the beach said she couldnt believe my age(57)!.She was very attractive and nicely turned out. However she then told me she had been ill with Cancer and was fighting MS!.Be grateful for health and dont worry about looks so much.Every dog must have his day and we all have ours as my aunt used to say

Islaofsilly · 26/04/2019 15:23

tierra what sort of glasses do you wear? I don’t mind glasses but can’t seem to find any that don’t make me look like a forty something dork Grin

Yep, and I'm only 27! but since my birthday I seemed to have aged a decade, literally haggard overnight. I was baby faced and constantly mistaken for a teenager, canvassers wouldn't speak to me as 'my parent's weren't home' (their own words). Sprouting grey hair (at least a decade before any of my family did) and what is left is thinning, wrinkles on my forehead and very obvious laughter lines, jawline has disappeared, waist has gone up 2 inches and my body hair has spread (including the tache Blush) - it's that sudden and noticeable I've had to have various blood tests for things like hormone imbalances, early menopause and thyroid issues - all fine! I had a little cry the other day over a picture took 4 years ago (a year after having DS, not exercising and eating like shit) it was the best I ever looked! I always liked having an expressive face but I'm afraid to admit I am seriously considering botox and fillers Blush The women in my family are known for aging VERY well and even though I'm the youngest I look like a potato that was forgotten in the back of a cupboard. I've had a shite time and it's very much caught up with me Sad

TeaForTheWin · 26/04/2019 15:28

Ah the hairdresser chair, many a horrifying revelation made there. I found a random, long white hair on my chin last time. Cringe.

onionknightforking · 26/04/2019 15:31

Oh, and DP casually pointed out how the 'loner' white hairs on my chin caught the light whilst we driving around the other day Angry arsehole

onionknightforking · 26/04/2019 15:31

Longer*

missbattenburg · 26/04/2019 15:33

Ha! My own mother looked over at me sat with my head back in the sunshine the other day and said "if you could see your chin from this angle, you'd be horrified".

Thanks for nothing, mother. They're your hairy-chin genes doing that shit. Grin

I’m chronically ill. I feel unrecognisable from the woman 8/10 years ago in the photos with my dd when she was little. I’ve aged loads due to illness. Late 40’s.

Quintella · 26/04/2019 15:34

Honestly, the freshest of fresh faced 16 year olds could sit in a hairdresser's chair and still end up looking like a warning from a Faces of Meth poster.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 26/04/2019 15:35

I’m 38, up until 30 I could eat what I wanted and stayed a size 10. New medication meant I ballooned to a size 18 in months. It’s slowly coming off but I’m mourning for my old self. I’m now a small 16 but feel huge especially as I’m a H/GG cup anyway. My skin is worse then it’s ever been. I stopped smoking a year ago and was expecting good skin but how can it be so bad?? As for my hair it, is so thick but suddenly as dry as anything. I’m now having four weekly deep conditioning treatments at the salon. I occasionally have botox, but am going to have to up the time I have them. Also waiting for a nose job (medical reason not cosmetic) but I’m hoping it will straighten it out and make me feel better about myself.

What the feck is youngymummy taking?Confused

YonWeeLassie · 26/04/2019 15:36

Perhaps it does make a difference whether you were good looking when young?
I certainly turned heads in my teens and twenties though I've never been obsessed by my appearance and seldom wear make up. I think social media is responsible for huge vanity.
I'm 61 now. They always say you have to choose face or figure, well I never actively chose figure as my weight just naturally stays the same. I weigh the same as I did at 20. My face is saggy and lined though. My hair has improved as the grey mixes with the blonde and I haven't needed to colour it now for about five years.
I suppose I could mourn the loss of looks but frankly I miss good health far more.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 26/04/2019 15:36

Oh the funny thing is I still get asked for I.D. I’m like, hello can you see these wrinkles and crowns feet???

CletusVanDamme · 26/04/2019 15:36

Sincerely wishing some get well vibes

Furrydogmum · 26/04/2019 15:45

I've never been pretty but am ageing well - still don't like looking in the mirror so can't win really!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 26/04/2019 15:45

I agree with this. I went from perfectly healthy to 6 days after my 30th having a car accident that’s badly affected my back then getting diagnosed with bipolar, hyper mobility syndrome, b12 deficiency, heart murmur and fibromyalgia all within 3 years 🙈 But I’m slowly getting there, and hope to start working again this year now that lithium has stabilised me greatly!!!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/04/2019 15:45

Maybe someone needs to invent a 'Snapchat' filter mirror for hairdressers to use in all their salons?

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 26/04/2019 15:49

I used to be good looking and I hate it too. I do what I can to keep the worst of it at bay so I have some botox, use retinols, DIY skin peels, high SPF every day, take collagen and biotin supplements, constantly defuzz my fluffy face etc etc but it’s spitting in the wind.

I am trying to console myself by keeping active and fit and thanking god I am healthy and strong but I hate looking old.

wigglesniggles · 26/04/2019 15:50

A wise person once said don't try to be perfect, just try to be a little bit better than you are.

It's also true that in thirty years time you will look back and think how young you looked now.

BillyGoatGruff007 · 26/04/2019 15:51

Gave up on makeup when I started to see it as looking false and garish
God yes, me too; when wearing make up, I look in the mirror and see Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane".

speakout · 26/04/2019 15:51

Your face is only a small part of your body.

Skin with lines can still look dewey and fresh if you nouris it and make sure you are healthy from the inside.

If you keep your body strong and supple you will look amazing. Find a clothing style that works for you.

I am 57, exercise regulary, have a confident beach body- I throw on a pair of sunglasses and a swimsuit and feel beautiful.
