Just that really... the last two episodes have been so slow!

OP posts:
WingingIt1234 · 23/04/2019 23:12

It's a bit shit but not because it's too slow but because it's become so cheesy and cliched. What's with all the cringey lines and cheesy crescendos of music? The writing was what made it so great but it has become worse than most B rate Hollywood blockbusters. Agree that sometimes there needs to be a lead up but here the slowness amplifies how shit the writing has become (and so has the opposite of the intended effect on me). I almost felt embarrassed for the actors (eg for Brienne and Jaime in the knighting scene).

Being back the tits and gore.

That said I can't wait for the next episode!

KaleidoscopeEyes · 23/04/2019 23:14

Now I've been told that George RR Martin's wife said she'd divorce him if he kills Arya, so...

KaleidoscopeEyes · 23/04/2019 23:15

I want Cersei to survive because she is my very very favourite, the vile bitch Grin

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/04/2019 23:17

Not slow at all. Ep 2 was superb. It's at its best when it's people talking in firelit rooms.

I know the battles are necessary but I'm interested in the characters and their motivation.

LucilleBluth · 23/04/2019 23:19

It's all gone a bit fanfic. And is it just me or do they all look like they've aged 20 years since the last season. Kit Harrington is loosing his looks..booze?

HBStowe · 23/04/2019 23:23

Jon could well be for it. It would neatly solve the Dany v Jon issue now that he knows who his parents are and what his claim is. And it would be sufficiently heartbreaking. Plus if Dany is pregnant with his mutant web-toed incest baby his legacy lives on without him etc.

That said, they probably want to eke as much story out of him first so perhaps it’s a bit soon.

LaurieMarlow · 23/04/2019 23:29

It's all gone a bit fanfic.

Well that’s exactly what it is, unfortunately.

The decline in D&D’s output was obvious as soon as their source material dried up.

I’m sad we won’t get Martin’s ending, because I’m sure it would have been infinitely more original and engaging, but at least D&D committed to finishing what they started.

Abouttoblow · 23/04/2019 23:35

I think the Night King will head to Kings Landing, kill everyone including Cersei and bring them all north as wight walkers and Cersei as the Night Queen.

Awrite · 23/04/2019 23:38

I said to dh that I couldn't stand how old they were all looking. I have aged with them. It was really me I was talking about, wasn't it?

Dairyqueen2 · 24/04/2019 00:26

The Prince who was Promised is supposed to unite ice and fire or some such, so I'm thinking that's the offspring of Jon n Danaerys. Arya has Cersei and the Hound still on her list so am hoping she'll kill them (well, not the Hound, but as I say - list). People who deserve to rule (who've done no wrong) probably Jon, Sansa, Gendry (yawn). Weird to resurrect the Gendry story and not have it amount to anything ... Danaerys killed by zombie Dragon (It's magical fire ...)?

NaturatintGoldenChestnut · 24/04/2019 00:33

Jaime had a thing for Brienne in the books. I'll be upset if Arya goes but I think she's toast, possibly literally if she becomes a white walker.

IdblowJonSnow · 24/04/2019 00:46

I agree that series 8 has largely been shite so far. It's not the pacing I object to, it's the appalling dialogue. Honestly, Hollyoaks is better scripted.
It's also become very sentimental with misty-eyed characters abound and a general lack of wit/the dry humour that we've had previously.
But that said, I don't doubt tbe next episode with the battle scenes will be a corker.
I am so bored of Daenerys' character I hope her dragons eat her.
It honestly feels like it's going to be like the end of downton abbey when they mindlessly pair everyone up. Hmm

bakedbeanzontoast · 24/04/2019 00:50

I would like Brieene to give her not so subtle fan a chance 😂

blackteasplease · 24/04/2019 09:56

I think it's been excellent, especially ep 2.

I thought season 7 was a bit shit - everyone moving about far too fast - but season 8 is a return to form imo.

GoT was traditionally quite slow with long build ups to events. But if you binge watched the first few seasons you won't have noticed.

TooLittleTooLate80 · 24/04/2019 10:02

Episode 1 was a standard GoT opening episode - just putting the pieces into play and refreshing our memories.

Whilst I was surprised with episode 2 I thought it was an amazing episode in terms of writing and acting and is probably the ultimate definition of the clam before the storm. I do think the pace will pick up hugely from here on in.

TooLittleTooLate80 · 24/04/2019 10:03

Calm before the storm ffs

LazyFace · 24/04/2019 11:07

I tought it was. But then I realised that waking up at 2 am to watch it doesn't work for me, I'm just too tired for anything.
I've been listening to Podrick's song on a loop this morning. I'm sure I'll cry soon.

cardibach · 24/04/2019 20:20

Isn’t it Jon? Offspring of a Stark and a Targaryen?
I also appreciate the build up and re-establishing of all the characters in new positions.

LaurieMarlow · 24/04/2019 21:21

Jon is the PWWP. ‘His is the song of ice and fire’ according to Rhaegar.

But who is The Last Hero? Or is that just different words for the same thing.

ReapersHowler · 24/04/2019 21:33

E2 was beautiful, I ended up sitting teary eyed telling DH how I wasn't ready for everyone I loved to die. Grin

Dany is either going full mad queen or she dies in childbirth. Theon is dead next week - sacrifices himself for Bran.

Cersei will be killed by Jamie.

Jon to relinquish the throne to Gendry and Arya and Sansa as queen of the north.

Also still have to have Cleganebowl.

Drogosnextwife · 24/04/2019 21:37

I'm loving it but Danny is getting right on my tits with her dragon smuggery.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/04/2019 21:41

Also I was a bit Hmm that her only response to being told Jon was her nephew was to declare that he must be the rightful heir. I think Jon was hoping she’d be a bit more lovelorn than that.

sorenipples · 24/04/2019 21:53

I'm wondering whether it will be the end of the monarchy. A lot of houses are/will be wiped out. Dany could actually be barren, in a shock twist. Yara isn't likely to reproduce, theon can't, Euron will die ending house grey joy. There are no male Starks left to continue the name (Bran seems unlikely to). Sansa may be off men after her trauma, leaving only Arya who is interested in a blacksmith rather than a highborn. If Gendry isn't legitimised and Dany doesn’t regain fertility I can't see much of a succession plan.

Drogosnextwife · 24/04/2019 21:53

Yup she is going down the slippery slope of mad queen, which is a shame because I really loved her.
