Just that really... the last two episodes have been so slow!

Yes Cersei was told she would marry Rhaegar but he loved Lyanna. She then married Robert who loved Lyanna.
It's no wonder Cersei hated Ned and the Stark family - they (the royal they) stole her happy ending.

crispysausagerolls · 14/05/2019 20:50

I’m sad for Jaime (yes, truly, I need to get a life 😂🙈) though because I don’t think Cersei has ever loved him as much as as he loves her

M0reGinPlease · 14/05/2019 21:51

Just watched. I feel like we're back on the game a little bit after last weeks shocker.

Two things- did anyone else pick up that Varys was going to poison Dany? The girl who was spying for him said she hadn't eaten for days and he said something along the lines of 'they're watching you go back to the kitchen'.

And what in the name of holy fuck is going on with Arya?!

Ginger1982 · 14/05/2019 22:09

Cersei has done nothing this season except stand in the tower looking out over KL. I much preferred her in earlier seasons.

crispysausagerolls · 15/05/2019 08:55

Yes! I was surprised by how many people didn’t!

What do you mean re Ayra?

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/05/2019 09:05

I liked Jaime and Cersei’s ending although I was convinced he would be the one to kill her (then die himself) as his ultimate redemption. I’ve no shame in saying Jaime is my favourite character, how many characters can become so likeable after such a start? The terrible things Cersei has done have been a product of her awful upbringing and being sold off to whoever her father needed her to be.

Looking back, Daenerys’ fate to become the ‘mad queen’ was predictable, there were signs along the way but this series has rushed that descent from benevolent ruler to ruthless tyrant so quickly that it feels like it has come out of nowhere.

M0reGinPlease · 15/05/2019 09:16

@crispysausagerolls it felt like she was more than just lucky in surviving all that and even seemed a little surprised at it herself. Is she being protected by a higher power? The Lord of Light? It just felt like there was more to it and a real significance to her being the last character we saw.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/05/2019 09:22

Excellent posts sailorcherries

I think Arya and the horse signify death riding a pale horse.
She is Azor Ahai, she was who Melisandre was sent to protect (initially she thought it Stannis but that was to ensure Brienne made her way to Winterfell and protect the Starks, then Beric but again he died to save Arya - everything led to her).

I don't think she will kill Dany but she has always been closest to Jon and seeing that Dany almost killed her, hearing Arya's point of view on the situation, will lead Jon to killing Dany (my point of view). So she is death, she just isn't doing the killing.

I think it also harks back to the last time Arya was in Kings Landing and she saw her father die, she was almost captured and killed but lived. Her story has come full circle - her initial fleeing of KL led her on the path to being a Faceless Man, this is her final path.

Again, all of these views are my own but I think reading the books helped develop the story arcs as there was quite a lot missed out - Lady Stoneheart for example!

I really agree with that. There were a couple of scenes with her, very little dialogue - that shot of her at the window looking knackered, that had to carry a hell of a lot in terms of her character development. It was like, oh my god! She's not wearing any makeup! And she looks... a bit tired. There's not even any highlighter on her dark circles! She's gone right over the edge, she's clearly capable of anything now.

CabbageHippy · 15/05/2019 11:10

bit shit. Seems to me to have become a\ bit predictable & emotionless (from a viewer point of view)

I genuinely shed a tear when Hodour & some of the other's have died but this time I really don't a toss

The Ayra as death theory is very interesting! Although I keep waiting for some sort of clever twist to happen and it hasn’t so at the moment I’m trying to just take things at face value - eg Ayra was just crafty and lucky to escape. Because I was expecting more from Littlefinger and his final plot, or from Tyrion and all of his mistakes - I was like “surely there was a purpose behind this silliness”. But there does not seem to be so I am unsure.

How long is the final ep?

Is it wrong to think Dany is totally badass even though she’s a mental dictator?

honeybeetheoneandonly · 15/05/2019 14:12

I'm really disappointed in this season.
I never considered Dani to have any mad tendencies. Ruthlessness, yes, she would do whatever she felt necessary to get what she wanted. I would have totally been onboard, if she had burnt the city down because nobody surrendered and were attacking from everywhere.
But, they surrendered and their "love" would have been easy, without Cersei's grip on the people. Instead, we are meant to buy that Dani would choose to burn the city down at that moment, instead. Rubbish.
There were so many things just changed to make things fit, like how the arrows were a powerful weapon against dragons in previous episodes, only to be no obstacle at all in this episode. It was just stupid.

A well known director once said, if you make your baddies or story lines too big And epic you will struggle to conclude them in any meaningful way.
I think about this often, when I feel let down by a book/TV/movie.

And what was that whole thing about Bran being able to interact with the past when he shouldn't be able to???? There was clearly a storyline there, that was then never developed. Besides, was there any point to Bran? Did they just haul him all the way north of the wall and back again, so he could reveal Jon's parentage. Because that was all Bran actually contributed, wasnt it?

Twillow · 15/05/2019 16:28

I found The Bells better on a second watching.
I wonder why Tyrion wasn't executed for sharing his knowledge with Varys - could he have another part (does he have green eyes for example? He was very keen on saving Cersei...)
Danaerys was hurt by some many things - Missandei, losing Jon as a lover, the fact that everyone worships his leadership) - I think she was overcome by it all in the form of anger. A shame as her previous character would have been a great leader.
I reckon Jon will end up on the throne - because the best rulers are the ones that don't want it, perhaps. He wins the game - but at the same time lost as it's not his desire. Someone will bring him dragon eggs and the last shot will be him locking them up in a dungeon!

YouTheCat · 15/05/2019 16:34

Doesn't Dany have green eyes?

M0reGinPlease · 15/05/2019 17:37

So we are we pretty much in agreement that Dany will die next week?

RunAwayWifey · 15/05/2019 18:03

Dany has Violet eyes the showrunners just never bothered giving her the contacts for this.

crispysausagerolls · 15/05/2019 19:17

So we are we pretty much in agreement that Dany will die next week?

Yes but I think it would be very silly, as I said a few pages back - what the hell happen to her unsullied and Dothraki if she die?

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/05/2019 08:03

honeybeetheoneandonly I think Bran will take the iron throne, I don’t know how he will get there but I see so little point to his whole character arc if he doesn’t!

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/05/2019 08:04

I don’t think Jon, as a Targaryen will be deemed fit enough after her antics and if he kills Daenerys I doubt he will be able to face it.

StarLine · 16/05/2019 08:13

Oh, I am glad to have found this thread.

My tuppence worth is that, on reflection, I don't really have an issue with how the plot has moved forward this season - however to me it has felt like they basically created a synopsis season. So all the main plot points are there, but in order to flesh it out and add texture and build naturally to where the plot went, they should have written the full story.

To me, it's like watching the equivalent of an author's synopsis of where the story will go. You have to fill in too many blanks yourself or rely on pretty shallow and obvious foreshadowing.

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/05/2019 08:29

StarLine Very much so! And the dialogue has been pretty much non-existent!

M0reGinPlease · 16/05/2019 08:44

Why didn't they make a full 10 eps do you think? And flesh it out a bit more.

crispysausagerolls · 16/05/2019 09:08

Why didn't they make a full 10 eps do you think? And flesh it out a bit more.

10 45-50 min episodes is the equivalent of 2 90 minute episodes, 1 120 minute episode and 3 60 minute episodes, more or less.

I don’t understand why people keep saying this. It’s the exact same length of season, they have just done these longer episodes instead because of the battle sequences etc which work at the longer length.

crispysausagerolls · 16/05/2019 09:09

AndBran on the throne would be ridiculous. He doesn’t even bloody think he is a stark or a person and doesn’t have feelings how can he be a king?! He’s not supposed to rule he is supposed to just be the three eyed raven.
