To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

Hell no! Encourage her to wash more!!!!!!

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 16/04/2019 13:19

No, showering every day is not unreasonable.

Galvantula · 16/04/2019 13:20

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 16/04/2019 13:20

Perhaps give her a few £ towards the water bill if she is worried about the (minimal) extra you will be spending on 2min daily showers?

NurseButtercup · 16/04/2019 13:21

I'm a bit confused are you talking about how often to wash your hair or to wash your body?

I wash my body every day and wash my hair every 2-3 days. If I don't wash my body every day I feel grimy and start to worry that I smell.

Megan2018 · 16/04/2019 13:22

YANBU

Washing daily is the norm, it might not be for everyone but is not excessive.
If you were having 3 baths daily she might have issue...

Your sister sounds a bit odd!

gamerwidow · 16/04/2019 13:22

It depends on the person. If you don’t sweat much then you don’t need to shower everyday. I shower every day but my DH showers every other day and he doesn’t smell. Only you will know if you need to or not.

maddy68 · 16/04/2019 13:22

Surely everyone has a shower every day? That's not unreasonable to expect. N

Brodiebirdy · 16/04/2019 13:22

@twinstrollsandhunz I did offer as I was worried that it was the money that bothered her- she says washing every day is just not necessary though especially if you haven’t exercised

@nursebuttercup no I was meaning how often to wash your body- I only do my hair every other day

From an environmental perspective every other day is better.

M0reGinPlease · 16/04/2019 13:25

she says washing every day is just not necessary

Yes. Yes it is.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/04/2019 13:25

I wash every day but only in the sink with a flannel. Otherwise its a bath or shower every other day.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 16/04/2019 13:26

It depends how sweaty you are and how much BO is created. No one needs to fully shower every day. Strip wash is perfectly fine.

Brodiebirdy · 16/04/2019 13:26

@megan2018 she never used to be odd but she has been driving me crazy this week! I had pain au chocolat for breakfast yesterday and she told me it’ll shorten my life (that’s the first time I’ve had it this year!)

QueenBeex · 16/04/2019 13:28

No, not everyone showers every day, and that doesnt mean were dirty people for not doing so.
When I was a teenager I showed every day, I used to sweat loads!
Now I shower every other day, in the summer every day.
Wash my hair every 2 / 3 days.
Each to their own :)

spanieleyes · 16/04/2019 13:28

Shower twice a day, three times a week I have a bath instead of one of the twice-daily showers. Wouldn't want any less!

reallybadidea · 16/04/2019 13:28

How odd to criticise a guest for showering once a day. Every other day is fine (not my choice, but you probably won't actually smell) but a brief shower every day also normal. I have a colleague who says she has a 30 minute hot shower every morning. I think that is excessive, but it's fuck all to do with me as I'm not paying for it.

CupcakeDrama · 16/04/2019 13:29

I bath everyday.
I wouldnt leave my house without having a bath.

QueenBeex · 16/04/2019 13:29

Showed ffs haha showered ^^^

reallybadidea · 16/04/2019 13:31

I knew someone would bring up "strip washes". I can't bear them. So much faff and and considerably more unpleasant compared to a quick shower.

Megan2018 · 16/04/2019 13:32

@Brodiebirdy
How weird.
I'd probably criticise her choices back and see how she likes it!

thecatsthecats · 16/04/2019 13:33

What you are doing is perfectly normal and non excessive, however...

Dermatologically speaking, 5-6 bodily washes a week is in fact healthier for your skin, as more frequent showers strip the natural oils from your skin too often to be replaced.

I unfortunately have to shower at least 6 times a week including hair washing because I go to the gym a lot. I would prefer 5 times, washing my hair 3 times.

To finish appalling the masses, I also have given up using shower gel. I still wash my hands with soap, and use deodorant, but otherwise just rinse and scrub my body with water. It has made no noticeable difference to my bodily cleanliness.

JollyAndBright · 16/04/2019 13:34

I only clean my hair once a week but I shower every day.

The same as you it’s a 2 minute quick shower.

SerenDippitty · 16/04/2019 13:35

No one needs to shower every day. A strip wash is equally acceptable.
