To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

It’s different post surgery when you have a wound that might get infected. There’s no danger of infection from not showering every day if you have unbroken skin!

Well not really, we don't encourage showers for 24-48hrs post op and post shower means patients sat in soggy falling off dressings because the morning is one of the busiest times and we can't get to dress them as quickly as they need. We also don't encourage changing dressings daily but patients struggle to keep them dry when they're showering.

@Prequelle waterproof dressings are a thing, they really are. I've just had surgery and all my dressings were waterproof and lasted through several showers. Having said that, hospitals are dangerous places filled with patients vulnerable to any infection going. We should not suggest that because something happens in hospital it needs to happen in the homes of perfectly health people. I think this is where we have started to go wrong - MRSA rates showed that hospitals were becoming more and more dangerous because of lack of cleaning. Then we focused on making hospitals clean (thank goodness) and in the process, people seem to have got the idea that we need to constantly use anti-bacterial products in everyday life.

It's not the same for everyone. Most people wash daily out of habit and many don't really need to. Why don't you try it and see if you are one of the lucky ones who can get away with it? It would be much better for the environment if people showered less. That said, 2 mins doesn't seem excessive!

My friend and his dad don't use deodorant and never have - they just don't get smelly, lucky sods (and I have been on a cycling holiday with them so I'd know if they did smell!)

argy I am aware of that given I'm a surgical nurse. they still peel, I'm glad yours lasted but for a lot of people they don't. Plus once the dressing is changed after the waterproof post op dressing has been removed it's usually soft pore that are applied which aren't waterproof. We avoid waterproof dressings with a lot of patients because if they've had drains or other reasons for high exudate waterproof dressings should be avoided.

I think it's gross not to shower everyday once you hit puberty.
