To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

Just to add I was told by my doctor when I was a child that due to my dry skin and eczema I wasn't allowed to shower/bathe every day! I wash all the relevant areas face, armpits, genitals and feet daily and have a full shower 3-4 times a week. I have never been told I smell and the health of my skin is important to me.

I agree about strip washes being weird. My shower head is detachable so it's very quick and easy to do pits and bits if they need a quick freshen. When I've had to do a strip wish on the other hand (when the boiler broke), I seem to just get water everywhere and am left with soapy pubes.

YesQueen · 16/04/2019 14:38

Every other day for me, unless I've been exercising and then I would shower after

Strip washes are useful if you can't shower after an op, in fact after 2 weeks of doing it, the bumps on my upper arms completely disappeared bizarrely! Also for people who can't physically shower, as a carer a lot of people were bed bound or unable/frightened to bath or shower so we would strip wash or bed bath them

YesQueen · 16/04/2019 14:39

@OneStepSideways HOT water and soap, scrub, rinse flannel, scrub again with hot water as a "rinse"

SpinneyHill · 16/04/2019 14:39

I have a bath with shower but no holder so I soap up and rinse off holding it, Is that a strip wash or a shower?

BobBobBobbingAlong · 16/04/2019 14:40

Me too ilovetrees. And it's been repeated in recent years!
I take great care looking after my skin and I'm very clean.

Ellenborough · 16/04/2019 14:41

Is it not quicker to dive in the shower than have a strip wash?

I've read some very weird justifications for strip washing rather than showering on here, that have nothing to do with saving water. Getting people to open up about their personal hygiene habits and laundry routines is an absolute eye opener, I can tell you. Shock

HollowTalk · 16/04/2019 14:41

When people talk about showers stripping oils from the body, what scientific facts are they basing this on? It sounds like something they've made up.

Pinkblanket · 16/04/2019 14:43

I can shower and wash my long hair, properly, in 4 minutes. I could not be arsed spending twice as long having a strip wash!

Susanna30 · 16/04/2019 14:46

Everyday.

woodhill · 16/04/2019 14:46

I feel dirty if I don't shower every morning. Sometimes I go in the bath after dh or have another shower particularly in the Summer. I do get sweaty especially when working

Cloudhopping · 16/04/2019 14:46

Shower daily here.To those who don’t shower/bath/wash everyday, how do you know you don’t smell? Surely, you’re likely to be the last to be able to tell?

Lweji · 16/04/2019 14:47

Washing bits with a flannel and then rinse it is hugely yucky.

Just use your bidet. Wink

Still, just easier to get in the shower. And yes, it takes 5 min or less if not washing hair.
And we don't live in the Sahara.

LiGlitterBug · 16/04/2019 14:48

Every other day for hair and body, unless it’s hot/I’ve been getting sweaty.
Interestingly, my Dad recently went to the doctor with a skin issue and was told that it was showering everyd day that caused the problem. He was advised to cut back to every other day.

Someoneonlyyouknow · 16/04/2019 14:49

Why are people obsessing over showers, surely the important bit is
" I had pain au chocolat for breakfast yesterday and she told me it’ll shorten my life (that’s the first time I’ve had it this year!)"

Do pain au chocolate only affect your life expectancy if eaten at breakfast? What time of day is best for longevity? Are other French baked products similar? What about full-on patisserie? What about Danish pastries? I could give up pain au raisin but would rather carry on consuming pain au chocolat, croissants, choux and Danish pastries than live forever in sadness.

hellsbellsmelons · 16/04/2019 14:49

I shower every day.
Wash hair every 4 days.
I can't imagine not having my morning shower.
That's what wakes me up.
It takes longer and is more messy to strip wash.
Hell no to that!

Boysey45 · 16/04/2019 14:50

Full bath here every morning with bubble bath.
I think its disgusting people not having a bath or shower every day. I'd never have a partner who didn't bathe everyday as its rank.
I think strip washes are for disabled people mainly. My Mum has a strip wash because she cant get her leg over the side of the bath and wont get a shower fitted.

stucknoue · 16/04/2019 14:50

Yes you need to wash daily but it doesn't have to be a shower. I'm not suggesting we return to the weekly bath but a good wash at the sink is fine between showers

Lweji · 16/04/2019 14:50

Yes, the important bit here is that your sister is passing judgement on your choices and you're only staying there one week.
Is she normally this judgemental? And why would you want to stay with her if she is?

Jinglejanglefish · 16/04/2019 14:51

I also didn't know what strip washing was until I joined MN. I shower or bath daily, I think that's pretty standard in this part of the world in this day and age.

SaskiaRembrandt · 16/04/2019 14:52

Well this thread finally explains all those smelly people I unfortunately find sitting next to me on the bus/sharing a checkout queue....!

I was thinking that.

AlexaAmbidextra · 16/04/2019 14:53

What a thing to ask on here. According to MN you should be showering every hour on the hour or you’re a skanky, minging soap-dodger.😂

Lweji · 16/04/2019 14:54

I was raised with washing bits during the week and not showering/bathing during my period(!). It quickly changed to showers when I was a teenager and had more free will.

melissasummerfield · 16/04/2019 14:54

Strip wash aka prison wash Envy ( not envy )

Just have a five minute shower!

Everyday for me with a hair wash every third day, just wouldn't feel clean otherwise!

nighttimebrowser · 16/04/2019 14:55

I shower twice a day most days if I'm out all day, can't stand going to bed all gross feeling. I wash my hair almost everyday too.

Quick showers don't cost much, takes me 2-3mins overall for one full body + hair shower.
