To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

Aaaah - Victoria Wood did a song "at the chippy we say yippee" about her, Pat and Sandra hanging out down there as teenagers Grin

stucknoue · 14/04/2019 16:46

"Mini" fish and chips, it's huge and feeds 2 and a dog!

Sockworkshop · 14/04/2019 16:47

In Scotland l go to the chipper and ask for a fish supper. In Gateshead l go to the fish shop and ask for a fish paper. Both the same fish and chips!

PortiaCastis · 14/04/2019 16:52

Plaice and a cone of chips with a saveloy with salt vinegar and tomato sauce

PortiaCastis · 14/04/2019 16:52

.....from the top chippy

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 14/04/2019 16:52

Chippy here

Either a portion of chips

A half pizza supper

Or if in my local
a falafel wrap which is huge and so fucking lovely and a few chips on the side (stolen from Dp)

Get them plain but add salt and BBQ sauce and mayonnaise for the chips at home. It's the only time I ever add salt these days.

surrealreal · 14/04/2019 16:57

We call it a fish supper where I am in South Yorkshire
#helpful

ShiveringCoyote · 14/04/2019 16:58

Chipper here too, although I don't like supermacs.

I usually get a large spice bag with a battered sausage. Rissoles too if they are available.

Louiselouie0890 · 14/04/2019 17:02

Not all at once but ranges from chip barm and gravy, chicken burger and chips or sausage chips and potato scallop.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/04/2019 17:03

Snowy Come to Yorkshire, just about every fish shop does potato scallops and scraps. I think there would be a riot if they didn't.

Or you might want to try a fish cake, which is like a double decker scallop with fish in the middle here.

Not biased at all when I say that Yorkshire fish and chips are the best in the country. I've tried them elsewhere and they're always a disappointment. Friend was nearly in tears when he saw what passed for a fishcake in Cornwall.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 14/04/2019 17:05

I love Yorkshire but I can't forgive the chip shops there for getting my hopes up. I'd see that they sold scallops and get excited only to remember that they aren't the delicious bivalves I know and love.

Cockadoodledooo · 14/04/2019 17:05

Chips, mushy peas and a pickled egg. Southern heathens don't do gravy 😭😭😭

Justincase87 · 14/04/2019 17:08

As long as it comes from a fish and chip shop it's fish and chips here, whether you actually get fish and chips or not!

Battered sausage and a chip butty for me, loads of vinegar, and no, I can't just have some chips from someone else's portion and bread and butter!

ilovepixie · 14/04/2019 17:46

*Depends on funds.

Skint: Chips and curry sauce.
Low: Saveloy, battered sausage and chips.
Payday: Large Cod or Haddock, large chips and a Rio.*

What's a Rio?

troppibambini · 14/04/2019 17:50

Rio is fizzy pop

CigarsofthePharoahs · 14/04/2019 17:52

Plaice and chips with a pickled egg.
Or crispy shredded beef with egg fried rice. It's the same shop.

ilovepixie · 14/04/2019 18:07

If you're ever in NI and near Ballycastle then you have to try Morton's for their fish- it's a bit pricey but the only place we'll get fish out of on the North Coast.*

Ooh I'd love a Morton's fish now.

puppy23 · 14/04/2019 18:34

Chippy here! I used to go for chicken nuggets & small chips as I always find there's something that bit nicer about chippy nuggets but the last place I got some from they were a bit pink so I'm opting for a small fish instead atm. Always lots of salt & vinegar unless DF is ordering, who prefers to put his own on at home... Spoilsport

Sockworkshop · 14/04/2019 18:42

Just sent DH out for Haddock and chips .Blush
Salt at home
No vinegar

EastEndQueen · 14/04/2019 19:00

Haddock and chips, double portion of mushy peas (sometimes triple Blush) you can’t get decent fish and chips in London which makes me sad, have requested them already one night when i’m up North with my Mum this Easter

EastEndQueen · 14/04/2019 19:02

They are the BEST in Yorkshire, agree with others on that!

greenpop21 · 14/04/2019 19:04

Cod and chips, curry sauce shared with my DD.

MeakTiger · 14/04/2019 19:05

1 large cod, 1 battered sausage, small chips. That’s our standard (and shared between two). If the kids are having it we add another 2 battered sausage and upgrade the chips to large!

greenpop21 · 14/04/2019 19:06

Oh but it can't be friend in beef dripping. That is an absolute no no!!Went to Suffolk once and got chips, had to chuck them as they were fried in beef dripping, what the hell???
