To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

Good lord i want chippy for lunch now

SirNilsOlav · 13/04/2019 14:23

LOVE your username!!

Depends which chippy we go to here, one does amazing batter so always get cod and chips, the one that has rubbish fish we get either just chips or chips and curry sauce.

@missmouse101, I know. Predictive text and I didn't see it until after I'd posted.

@Katinkka, it's the chipper in Ireland. The Fish Shop would probably be where you'd go if you had an aquarium and were looking for something to put in Grin

@murasaki, ooh truly the food of the Gods. That's a chicken fillet sandwich next to it. I'm getting hungry now Smile

It’s a chippy or chip shop here (Essex), never chipper Grin

I find the regional variations really fascinating! I’ve met Northerners who didn’t know what a saveloy was, and then schooled me about scallops (which are potatoes, not seafood).

If payday is good and DP fancies it/we don't want chips:

Salt and Pepper Squid
Sweet and Sour Prawn Balls (or chicken, or pork if I'm feeling kind to DP)
Kung Po Chicken
Chow Mein Noodles
Crispy Chilli Beef.
Can of ginger beer.

If payday is very good and it's just me:

Vegetable Tempura selection
King Prawn Tempura selection
Salmon Miso Soup
Chicken Yakitori
Two chilled Asahi

Supermacs are a chain here. They don't do actual 'chipper chips', the Italian places are the best for that. There are 3 Italian chippers near me. Not sure whether to call that luck or not Grin

Large cheesy chips with lots of salt and vinegar and gravy! It's a chippy here but love the name chipper Grin

SpoonBlender · 13/04/2019 14:36

Haddock, chips, mushy peas, curry sauce. Loads of vinegar, little salt. If I'm really overdoing it I'll get a couple of battered pineapple rings for pudding too.

Sugarformyhoney · 13/04/2019 14:37

The op is probably Irish, they call it a chipper there.
I don’t like chippy food :(

Celebelly · 13/04/2019 14:37

Chipper here too (north-east Scotland). I usually just have a fish supper but I'm partial to a battered sausage. Salt and vinegar obvs.

I actually only learned recently that they don't seem to call them fish suppers in England. We were in Devon (DP is English) and I told him I wanted a fish supper and he gave me a Hmm and said they wouldn't know what that was Grin

meow1989 · 13/04/2019 14:38

Battered cod drenched in lemon with salt and chips in a butty with proper butter salt vinegar and ketchup. Cup of tea with it a must.

keepforgettingmyusername · 13/04/2019 14:39

Cheeseburger with fried onions and chips or sometimes a gravy chip with stuffing, peas and onions.

Isth · 13/04/2019 14:39

Scampi, cheesy chips and plenty of salt, vinegar and mayo. Altho our local chippy does an amazing Stilton Mayo thing and it’s just too goooood

eclipse1808 · 13/04/2019 14:40

Chipper?!

cropcirclesinthefields · 13/04/2019 14:40

At the chippie it's always large cod and regular chips with loads of ketchup.

cricketmum84 · 13/04/2019 14:40

Fish and either mushy peas or curry sauce depending on what mood I'm in. Not a fan of the chips.

eclipse1808 · 13/04/2019 14:41

But battered sausage chips and gravy

Stravapalava · 13/04/2019 14:42

I have small fish & chips with large curry sauce.
DH has chicken kebab with all the salad, chilli sauce and will have some of my chips.
DC share a small fish & chips & mushy peas.

RoseDog · 13/04/2019 14:43

A white pudding supper with pickled onion from the chipper!

GimmeBread · 13/04/2019 14:45

@Celebelly NE Scotland here too but it's called the chippy!

A chippy is a joiner isn't it? 😀

Xyzzzzz · 13/04/2019 14:46

Omg garlic and cheese chips sound so good

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 13/04/2019 14:46

Fish, chips, gravy. I love chip shop curry sauce but I do find that some chippys have hit and miss curry sauce that's a bit shit so often stick to gravy.

My partner always gets a pie (or two) and chips. No sauce though which I find weird Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/04/2019 14:47

Crispy chilli beef no veg with half and half.

MatchSetPoint · 13/04/2019 14:47

Haddock, chips and curry sauce or scampi if I feel like a change.

Turquoisetamborine · 13/04/2019 14:47

I would get between me and H as portions are massive... battered fish, chips and mushy peas then do some bread and butter at home. Oh and batter on top.
