To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

Au contaire green, beef dripping is a must, anything else is just wrong.

Jsmith99 · 14/04/2019 19:14

Cod, chips & mushy peas for me, pls. No salt & vinegar, because I will add my own at home and the gourmet stuff I buy is nicer than their cheapo NBC muck.

greenpop21 · 14/04/2019 20:07

What about vegetarians Barbara?

The smell is yuk!

Veterinari · 14/04/2019 20:37

@katinkka
Am I the only one who calls it the fish shop?

My mum calls it the fish shop. Wondering if it’s a fairly specific regional or generational thing??

Katinkka · 14/04/2019 20:44

@Veterinari is she from Bradford too? 😁

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 20:49

Same @Katinkka!
The Chipper’? Never heard it called that before

Always been a chippy or chip shop here.
Interesting to see all the different things in different regions.
I'm guessing the haggis posters are Scottish lol.

Here I'd have chip butty (proper bread bun) and a scallop. You usually get free scraps too and I'll be having some of those Grin

MissLadyM · 14/04/2019 20:52

The posh one near me does scallops, king prawns or lobster & chips! I had lobster & chips last night!

Sorry, just to clarify that when I say scallops, I mean scallops as in a type of battered potato cake.
Maybe it's a regional thing lol

dustarr73 · 14/04/2019 21:01

If im getting a chipper, its a battered sausage chips and a chicken gravy.Or a snack box wiht a chicken gravy

Otherwise its chinese all the way.Spicebag and a curry sauce.

Batterycat · 14/04/2019 21:05

If yous want fish and chips each for two people, what do you say? I tried ordering 'two fish and chips' when I first moved here (Sheffield) and I bombed-the correct way is 'fish and chips twice' (much clearer, to be fair)

Batterycat · 14/04/2019 21:06

Oh and I've learned to say breadcake instead of stottie or bap.

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 21:10

A mealie pudding supper of course!

What's a mealie pudding? Never heard of one of those

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 21:11

Never mind, just googled and answering my own question - a type of white pudding like black pudding?
Nope, you can keep that lol - hate black pudding!

DarkLikeVader · 14/04/2019 21:20

Cod roe and chips - except the chippies here don’t do cod roe, so it’s cod bites and chips with lots of salt and vinegar, and a bottle of vinegar (chip shop condiment not malt) to take home to drench it properly. Yum. I’m so hungry right now.

iklboo · 14/04/2019 21:22

I think potato scallops are northern - maybe north west in particular?

SkyBillingIssue · 14/04/2019 21:25

Chipper?

moglovesredroses · 14/04/2019 21:25

Chippy tea? Has to be chips peas and gravy

RedRiverHog · 14/04/2019 21:33

Any love for pea fritters?

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 21:41

Yep, well Northern here anyway Smile

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 21:42

My chippy does frickles. I keep meaning to try one of those as they sound ace (fried pickles) - maybe next time I'm in Grin

chemenger · 14/04/2019 21:57

In Edinburgh, small fish supper or smoked sausage supper with salt and sauce.

In Aberdeenshire white pudding supper with salt and vinegar. White puddings are horrible in Edinburgh. No proper sauce outside Edinburgh.

What is a saveloy?

chemenger · 14/04/2019 21:58

Fried pickles are common here in New a England, quite nice. Better than the other standard appetiser - fried Brussels sprouts.

LimeKiwi · 14/04/2019 22:02

What is a saveloy

I think it's a type of long sausage (could be wrong though!)

PortiaCastis · 14/04/2019 22:05

Yes it's a very long sausage.

GinisLife · 14/04/2019 22:06

We have the best chip shop. Usual order is mini fish, chips & mushy peas in a tray with salt & vinegar. If I'm going full sized I never really liked cod so if I could be bothered to wait I'd order haddock with a cone of chips but I've gone the other way around recently and decided I like cod. Haddock is cooked to order, cod is usually already done. The boy has a doner kebab in a pitta with salad and chips with sweet chilli sauce and mayo. It's chippie tea, chip shop or fish shop here.
