To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

The best chippy I've ever been to is the Plaice To Be in Pitlochry. DH and I have considered driving the 5hr journey there and back just for the fish Grin

Had never tried mushy peas until I was an adult. I always thought they were pickled as the colour seemed unnatural. I absolutely love them now. Later I was introduced to the pea cluster and it is way better than it looks or sounds.
As a child I loved a wally (big fat gherkin) with my chips and sometimes a battered cod roe cake.

greenpop21 · 15/04/2019 17:46

Saveloy is the red skinned sausage. It's slightly spicy.

maddy68 · 15/04/2019 18:10

Fish chips mushy peas and gravy.

StarlaP · 15/04/2019 18:12

Chips, Sausage in batter and Irish curry sauce with a can of coke or dandelion and burdock :) It ain’t the same without the pop!

golddustwomen · 15/04/2019 18:15

We call it the chippy!
Fish, chips, curry sauce and lashings of salt and vinegar here. I do like a battered sausage every now and then too. I LOVE chippy tea, don't do it that often though as the kids don't like 'fat chips' 🙄

JustAnotherMNUserPassing · 15/04/2019 18:15

Ooh a jumbo sausage (no batter) and portion of chips if eating out, if going home I'll have some mushy peas as well! Don't forget a can of tango!

Scoobandlaurs · 15/04/2019 18:21

Where do you put the gravy or is it to dip in? Curious..

lostfrequencies · 15/04/2019 18:29

Chips with cheese and a battered sausage. Loads of salt and vinegar. And always tomato ketchup. I'm drooling 😫

Lifeover · 15/04/2019 18:39

Chips, curry sauce and battered sausage. Occasionally live life of the edge and go for mushy peas

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 18:42

Gravy usually goes over the top of chips here

Lifeover · 15/04/2019 18:42

Oh and for a late night snack on way home from the pub a potato scallop. It’s defo chippy

Lifeover · 15/04/2019 18:45

When I was a child we were too poor to get any animal protein from the chip pie so generally had a pea mix or sometime bean mix.

NW2SW · 15/04/2019 19:20

Currently eating fish and chips thanks to you lot. Grin

greenpop21 · 15/04/2019 19:24

I met a couple from Stockport on holiday and they said they have a 'babby's 'ed and gravy' which is an upside down pie that looks like a bald babies head! Love it!

greenpop21 · 15/04/2019 19:25

*bald baby's head

Gingerkittykat · 15/04/2019 19:46

My local chippie is pretty rubbish, so it is a lone white pudding with salt and sauce.

The best chip shop ever is Anstruther Fish Bar, it is where Charles and Camilla get their chips when they stayed in St Andrews and has pics of Camilla picking up her chips on the wall. The chips are in a totally different class to any other ones I have ever tasted.

chemenger · 15/04/2019 19:55

Anstruther is good, but L'Alba d'Ora in Edinburgh beats it hands down imo. Or Murray's chip van that tours the East Neuk of Fife in Summer.

groundcontroltomontydon · 15/04/2019 20:00

Chip roll with ketchup and a diet coke. Champion.

stressedoutpa · 15/04/2019 20:16

I like a jumbo sausage and half a small chips shared with DH. Classy bird me! Grin

kmammamalto · 15/04/2019 22:49

Ohhh supermacs!! 🤤 Lived in Galway for a while and still miss their cheese chips with garlic or gravy and trusty snack box (it's not a snack, it's enough to feed you for a day!) I'm still holding on hope we will see supermacs in England soon! My DH would be verrrry happy!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 22:09

@kmammamalto there’s no gravy in Supermacs!! Perish the thought🤣🤣 can’t beat a snack box though I agree😊

kmammamalto · 17/04/2019 07:55

@Lorelai no Sorry you're right! I should have said curry! When some one suggested curry cheese chip to me I thought they were mad but you can't knock it until you've tried it! It's delicious!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 17/04/2019 07:57

Fish and chips and mushy peas (but in a pot, not on top of the fish and chips - I hate it when they do that as it goes all soggy)

DanielRicciardosSmile · 17/04/2019 08:00

@TheQueef it's a chip cob here - you'd get very odd looks if you asked for a roll or butty.
