To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

Or, on the rare occasions when I have access to it, eel pie and mash in honour of my cockney mum.

GimmeBread · 13/04/2019 22:17

I have a love/hate relationship with our local chippy. Love it because they have a gluten free night twice a month but hate it because the bastards don't do fritters. Seriously. When we first moved here and visited the chippy (best place to hear the goss!) I asked for 2 fritters. The owner glared at me and tapped the handwritten sign which said "no fritters". I was gutted! Hasn't stopped us going back and we walk past another chippy to get there. They're brothers apparently!

I love me a fritter ❤️❤️

FloofyDoof · 13/04/2019 22:28

Rock and chips with ridiculous amounts of salt and onion vinegar, mushy peas, a massive pickled onion and a can of ice cold Coke.

I just wish we had a decent chippy round here to get it from!

AlliKaneErikson · 13/04/2019 22:36

When we go to the chippy (never heard of chipper, although my dad calls it the ‘fish shop’!) we have cod and chips or battered sausage and chips. I’m quite partial to a rissole when the mood takes me, although I haven’t seen anyone else mention one and I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing? (South Wales). Very hungry now...

NaturatintGoldenChestnut · 13/04/2019 22:39

Fish supper!

Mealiepudding · 13/04/2019 22:40

A mealie pudding supper of course! With a pickled onion and curry sauce.

(From the chipper)

Sadly I can't have that as I don't live in Scotland now. Sad

Galaxy88 · 13/04/2019 22:52

What's a supper Hmm

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 13/04/2019 22:56

"What's a supper hmm"

A "supper" just means it comes with chips. What's with the Hmm face?

Bethiboo40 · 13/04/2019 23:11

Used to get a curry battered bun for dinner when we were kids for 55p was amazing. Mmmm, guess what I'm making for Sunday's special tomorra. Blush

MysweetAudrina · 13/04/2019 23:14

Chipper here. I've forgotten what a saveloy is I know I looked it up once as I was singing pease pudding and saveloys. Come to think of it I don't know what a pease pudding is either but am presuming neither are the healthiest as they appear to give rich gentlemen indigestion.

I had chipper on Thursday : southern fried breast of chicken and chips for me.

1/4lber and chips for dh.
Battered burger and chips for ds and battered sausage and salad burger for dd.

GimmeBread · 13/04/2019 23:15

@Mealiepudding - I hate mealiepudding!

No offence - I bet you're lovely! 😀

But I've never liked it. Dry and claggy. I remember my dad giving us these bloody awful dry grey/beige things in what I swear was a plastic skin. Fucking awful. He was a terrible cook and my stepmum was no better. She used to do bacon steaks in the slow cooker. 8 hours for a bacon steak! It was like shoe leather.

Terrible cook. And horrible sm as well

DrWhy · 13/04/2019 23:15

Fish supper (haddock and chips) or scampi supper, an extra portion of scampi for DS - he has some of my chips. If I can even remotely justify it (am pregnant, have just walked up a mountain etc.) a macaroni pie.

Bethiboo40 · 13/04/2019 23:16

Oooh oooh just remembered a corned beef pattie, chips and chop sauce nom nom nom 🤫

AhhhHereItGoes · 13/04/2019 23:17

Cheesy chips

Heismyopendoor · 13/04/2019 23:18

Half pizza crunch supper :) my favourite. With extra salt and vinegar

Mealiepudding · 13/04/2019 23:22

I'll have yours then @GimmeBread Grin

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 13/04/2019 23:27

Fish supper with salt 'n' sauce. Sometimes a white pudding supper. Sometimes with a pickled onion. Fae the chippy.

Galaxy88 · 14/04/2019 16:13

trendynorth it's just a confused face. I've never heard of it used in that way here in South Yorkshire.

IntoValhalla · 14/04/2019 16:18

Either a beef and onion pie & chips (so I can cut the top off the pie, dip my chips in the gravy then eat the pastry).
Or a battered sausage and chips

troppibambini · 14/04/2019 16:21

Galaxy I think you used the wrong one Hmm means your pissed off at what someone has said!
Anyway from the chippy it's got tone chips, peas and gravy with a ridiculous amount of salt and vinegar and a barm cake.

Sockworkshop · 14/04/2019 16:33

Sockworkshop · 14/04/2019 16:34

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 14/04/2019 16:37

Welsh- fish shop

Chippie- Carpenter ‘anyone know a good chippie?’
Chip shop- the fish shop that doesn’t do very good chips
Fish shop- excellent fish and chips
Chip supper-fish shop night

Jeez that was confusing! Anyway:-

Fish, chips and curry sauce
faggots, peas, chips and gravy
Sausage, chips and curry sauce
Savloy, chips and curry sauce

Gutted nowhere does scraps or scallops (potato) anymore- loves them as a teen with loads of vinegar.

Question- some have mentioned roe, what’s that?

Galaxy88 · 14/04/2019 16:41

Oh, nevermind. Not a big deal worth getting annoyed over. I'm genuinely intrigued over regional words and phrases.

ChestyNut · 14/04/2019 16:42

Fish shop here too!

Pattie, chips and curry with a bread cake Smile
