To have cancelled and refunded this?

I have an online shop. Message below from a customer.

I cancelled and refunded her as I am obviously too stupid to post her item!! Cheeky Cow! Angry

Hi there. I'm ordering this for a master's degree project and would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is, but I'm willing to pay a bit more to get it sooner if that's at all possible. Thanks!

I seriously don't understand the comment(s) about the customer using big words. The only word I can see someone having to possibly look up if they were new to business and were in the UK is 'expedited'.

But expedited is a normal word used by everyone in the US if they want something sent quicker than the usual method. So there are no 'big words' in the original email. Especially if the customer was from US.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2019 15:26

One essential tip I'd pass on to the OP though, is this; if you absolutely must ridicule your customers, do it on a closed forum of likeminded people

Really? My essential tip would be to make sure you aren't being a numpty before ridiculing a customer.

cloudymelonade · 08/04/2019 15:28

You've definitely misunderstood.

AirBiscuit · 08/04/2019 15:28

Well I am very disappointed in all of you who have posted in this thread. On reading the OP I had lots of fantastically witty put downs lined up and they have all been used up. Harrumph

Happyspud · 08/04/2019 15:32

OP I just can’t understand why you’d assume a complete stranger, who wants to buy something from you, was getting a dig at you! And to cancel and refund indignantly. Do you have no self confidence? If I’d seen that and even been sure someone was trying to say I was stupid or whatever, I would have laughed at their weirdness and just delivered and taken their money.

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at the request of the OP.

cinnabarmoth · 08/04/2019 15:35

@AuntMarch had it, she doesn't expect you to know what the expired shipping options might be.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/04/2019 15:40

I took it as the poster doesn't understand what expedited means. As the buyer is obviously far more intelligent as she's doing a masters. Good on you OP!

LondonJax · 08/04/2019 15:46

@Toddlerteaplease. Expedited is a perfectly normal term used by people in the USA. Chances are her customer was from the USA- that's how I read it.

On Etsy (for example) many sellers in the USA put that they can offer expedited shipping. It's a normal term on Etsy as it's an American company. If you're going to sell, as the OP is obviously trying to do, you're going to get customers using the normal terminology for their country. It's not a 'showing off' term in the USA - it's what we would call quicker shipping or next day delivery that sort of thing.

This thread was already hilarious but the Eye of Sauron looking for the OP has sent me over the edge...

BloodyDisgrace · 08/04/2019 15:49

Ah calm down, people. She just asked MN too late, after cancelling. If she only contemplated that, a possible reply would sort it out: "Dear Customer. I am not sure as to the nature of your enquiry - my own cognitive ability or your own budget - but here's how fast is the fastest option and how much it costs. Hope it helps!"

Do people really send all this pointless drivel when ordering (like, for my MA or for my Gran's Birthday), rather than just asking how much is the fastest if it's not already advertised?..

RUOKHUN · 08/04/2019 15:51

Think OP has done a runner. 😂

Jenasaurus · 08/04/2019 16:03

I wonder if the customer is on mumsnet, not that you could possibly know what that is.

M4J4 · 08/04/2019 16:08

It looks like OP has de-registered her account!

Seconded Grin. Thank you springspringing.

hazell42 · 08/04/2019 16:20

My guess is that the customer wasn't an esol speaker. I think that she was trying to be a bit witty. Which never comes across well over the internet.
I remember trying to do the same thing In an email to my son's school
They had me marked down as neurotic forever after.
Face it OP. You made a mistake. Own it. Preferably with a witty remark

PreseaCombatir · 08/04/2019 16:32

It looks like OP has de-registered her account!

Oh dear 🤦‍♀️

Joebloggswazere · 08/04/2019 16:35

....and she was never to be seen again. Fin.

M4J4 · 08/04/2019 16:37

She could have just name changed like the rest of us 😂. We’ve all has our arse handed to us at least once I’m sure

LostInShoebiz · 08/04/2019 16:40

I’d quite like this thread to end up in the Daily Mail so the poor buyer can understand what happened to them today.

springspringing · 08/04/2019 16:42

This is why I love mumsnet.

Was it one of those awful beaded dummy clips op?
Or a glitter covered champagne flute?

TheInvestigator · 08/04/2019 16:53

I'm guessing OP won't be using this username again... complete new mumsnet identity needed!
