I have an online shop. Message below from a customer.

I cancelled and refunded her as I am obviously too stupid to post her item!! Cheeky Cow! Angry

Hi there. I'm ordering this for a master's degree project and would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is, but I'm willing to pay a bit more to get it sooner if that's at all possible. Thanks!

I guess the OP isn't coming back Grin

springspringing · 08/04/2019 14:15

Where is the OP?

To have cancelled and refunded this?
Belenus · 08/04/2019 14:19

I'd have cancelled her order too, she sounds like a snooty cow.

It's selling her something. You're not interviewing her for a position as nanny. Money's money, whether it comes from someone snooty or not.

It's slightly oddly worded, I suspect because she wants to know the postage options without saying "I have £15 max" at which point someone unscrupulous could say "well I have this option for 9.99 that will take 2 weeks, or for 16.99 I can get it to you on time". And then spend a fiver on whatever option is chosen and pocket the difference, hoping the buyer would go slightly over their budget to get the thing. The customer can't know if the seller will be scrupulous or not.

I understand that some customers are more hassle than they're worth, but this is just daft.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/04/2019 14:23

I do love a good thread where the OP shows herself to be a massive twat. So satisfying...

Someoneonlyyouknow · 08/04/2019 14:27

Twickerhun

I read it the same way as the OP. I’m feeling bad for the op now 10 pages do people laughing at her or telling her her business skills are crap

Well the OP's business skills ARE crap. And she posted a private message from a customer on a public forum asking other people to agree how rude the customer was. I'm sure she was hoping for lots of replies laughing at how she taught the 'rude customer' a lesson by cancelling the order for an item she needed urgently.

DogHairEverywhere · 08/04/2019 14:30

Customer service at it's finest Grin

RockinHippy · 08/04/2019 14:31

I'm with the others, YABU as you've completely misunderstood a perfectly reasonable request for the fastest possible delivery time & the offer to pay whatever it costs 🤷🏽‍♀️

2cheeseburgersplease · 08/04/2019 14:33

Oh no, the OP won't be back, but we need to know if there was a reply message to the customer or if it was a straight up cancel!

If you are the buyer in this situation, pleeeeease come and tell us!

Feel for the student now as as a PP said it can take several days to get refunded. If they were asking for it as quick as, they need it, and now this could have messed it up for them quite a bit (if on a 'student budget' with not much spare for duplicate orders!)

diamondofdoom · 08/04/2019 14:34

Wow. Bet you feel like a dick now

SosigDog · 08/04/2019 14:35

I love how the OP completely disappeared as soon as she realised she’d massively cocked up by misunderstanding the message and accusing an innocent person of being rude Grin

spugzbunny · 08/04/2019 14:35

Poor buyer might not even know it's been refunded if they don't check their Paypal regularly.

hawleybits · 08/04/2019 14:39

I am obviously too stupid to post her item!!
Indeed!

BeerandBiscuits · 08/04/2019 14:44

Maybe it's normal banter though, and, say, your kid made a mistake and other children at the schoolyard, good 10-20 of them, laughed at it you'd be fine too.

Yes I'd be fine with it if my DC had ended up making a fool of himself after being nasty to someone who hadn't done anything wrong. The experience of being laughed at would teach him a good lesson.

gigi556 · 08/04/2019 14:47

I read it as you couldn't possibly understand what a masters project is Confused

Terribly worded email! I can see why you were offended!

April241 · 08/04/2019 14:47

Oh cringe!!!

ShowMeTheKittens · 08/04/2019 14:54

It's blindingly obvious she is asking for a quote for expedited shipping. Oh well, you cancelled a sale now. Paranoia won over professionalism. You must be easily offended ... or something.

Ceebs85 · 08/04/2019 14:55

Why have you done yourself out of a customer? And why post about it here? She just wanted to know the fastest way to send it and wanted you to tell her the options so she could decide based on her budget. You are rude and unreasonable.

Blatherskite · 08/04/2019 14:55

As someone who is currently trying to avoid answering customer emails, I feel your pain OP. Some people seem incapable of putting together a coherent email and some - like, I suspect, your customer - trip over themselves so badly trying to be polite and lighthearted, end up making a total hash of things.

You misread this and leapt to conclusions. We've all done it. I hope you are able to fix it now.

dreichuplands · 08/04/2019 15:01

OP, I might look at why you over reacted and in doing so leapt to a false conclusion? If you know you are over sensitive about education levels then you can be mindful of this so you don't over react next time. Dealing with the public can be a bit random at times.

Ellie56 · 08/04/2019 15:02

To be fair potential customers can be perfect twats at times. I sell a lot of stuff on Ebay and the number of times I get CFs offering way below the starting price or idiots asking for information that is already on the listing is unbelievable. Hmm

I just seethe outwardly and answer politely.Grin

Chocrock · 08/04/2019 15:08

poor student Sad

woollyheart · 08/04/2019 15:09

Using big words can be offensive. I have received negative feedback in yearly appraisals for using them. 😀 This was with other professional adults before you tell me it is unreasonable to expect toddlers to understand them.

Topseyt · 08/04/2019 15:09

Ellie, I get that there are going to be cheeky fucker customers, and ones who try to barter you down on price.

That isn't what happened here though. The customer was prepared to pay some extra for a faster delivery because she needed the item urgently. She wasn't trying to bash the price down.

bellabasset · 08/04/2019 15:13

I think OP had best just send her the cost of expiditing the order, asking her to reorder confirming the way she wants it sent
