To have cancelled and refunded this?

I have an online shop. Message below from a customer.

I cancelled and refunded her as I am obviously too stupid to post her item!! Cheeky Cow! Angry

Hi there. I'm ordering this for a master's degree project and would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is, but I'm willing to pay a bit more to get it sooner if that's at all possible. Thanks!

What's wrong with that? She's essentially asking what other shipping you can offer, as quick as possible but letting you know she doesn't have an unlimited budget...

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 08/04/2019 09:54

The you couldn't possibly know, is in relation to what she can afford, she's acknowledging that her request is a bit tricky without you having an idea is what her budget is. She's expecting you to offer a few options

Readytogogogo · 08/04/2019 09:54

Do they mean that you don't know how much they could afford, rather than you not knowing what expedited means?

MaelstromOfLunacy · 08/04/2019 09:54

I think she meant you couldn’t possibly know what she could afford? Referring to the previous sentence as she hasn’t given you a specific budget. I’d read that as she’s asking for you to let her know shipping options and how much they cost so she can get it as quickly as possible.

GottenGottenGotten · 08/04/2019 09:54

I think you misunderstand.

She's saying you couldn't possibly know how much she can afford, but that you couldn't possibly know what expedited shipping means.

CaptainJaneway12 · 08/04/2019 09:55

I would have just replied with a list of shipping costs and asked her which one she wanted.
She is just saying she is willing to pay more for quick delivery...

Bottletopsx · 08/04/2019 09:55

Expedited. Not that I could possibly know what that means?

OP posts:
LIttleMissTickles · 08/04/2019 09:55

I can see that you must have thought she meant that you don't know what 'expedited' means, but I think she meant that you couldn't possibly know what her budget is! Simple misunderstanding I think, and definitely not an insult to you!

Blueowls · 08/04/2019 09:56

You have completely misinterpreted it.

Celebelly · 08/04/2019 09:56

Er, she's not saying you don't know what the word means! Confused

SleepingStandingUp · 08/04/2019 09:56

Op I read it the same as you but suspect the others are correct

pollyhampton · 08/04/2019 09:56

Yes, she is saying you wouldn't know her budget not what expedited shipping is. I think you've acted too hastily on this one

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/04/2019 09:57

Agree with all above and also add that maybe English isn't their first language? Its actually a very polite message just asking what shipping options you have and how much those would cost.

CaptainJaneway12 · 08/04/2019 09:57

She was saying I know you don't know my budget on shipping, but I am willing to pay more to get the item quickly. Therefore she probably expects you to tell her how much shipping would be for quicker delivery.

Brilliantidiot · 08/04/2019 09:57

Not that you could possibly know what that is,

Are you offended by that sentence?
If so I think you've misunderstood, I think she's saying she doesn't expect you to know every single postage option that she can afford?

Pushmepullyou · 08/04/2019 09:57

No. Not that you could possibly know what she can afford. Which is fair enough

CallipygianFancier · 08/04/2019 09:57

It's rather strangely worded, but yes, I think it's the budget you're not meant to be aware of, rather than the definition of "expedited".

Why would people think someone wouldn't know what expedited means?

Davidbowiestrousers · 08/04/2019 09:58

Er no, the customer means you don't know what her budget is. Good way to lose customers, well done

MrsXx4 · 08/04/2019 09:58

I think you misunderstood. I didn’t read it the way you did at all.

WarmCoffee · 08/04/2019 09:58

If she had meant “know what that means”, she would have said that. She said “know what that is”, ie. her budget.

AuntMarch · 08/04/2019 09:58

There's nothing cheeky about that message? She just isn't expecting you to know all of the shipping options and costs off by heart for whatever weight of package this is likely to be.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/04/2019 09:59

You’ve misunderstood. She meant you couldn’t possibly know what she could afford (obviously!). You’ve jumped the gun and lost a customer, and possibly whoever she tells.

Owlbert · 08/04/2019 09:59

It sounded to me like she needed it in a rush for her Uni project which may have a dealine in a week or two, couldn't find it anywhere else (or anywhere at a price a possibly hard up student could afford) and was hoping you could send it with as fast a postal service as she could afford, which when you told her the options she would work out and get back to you.

Treezylover · 08/04/2019 09:59

So you took offence because you misunderstood and thought she was accusing you of not understanding? I hope the irony isn’t lost as well as the customer 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

Celebelly · 08/04/2019 09:59

Poor woman. I hope she finds somewhere else to get her item quickly.
