To have cancelled and refunded this?

I have an online shop. Message below from a customer.

I cancelled and refunded her as I am obviously too stupid to post her item!! Cheeky Cow! Angry

Hi there. I'm ordering this for a master's degree project and would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is, but I'm willing to pay a bit more to get it sooner if that's at all possible. Thanks!

OP posts:
saraclara · 08/04/2019 10:25

I had to re-read the message several times before I could even work out what the OP thought she was seeing.
The real meaning of the message was THAT obvious.

GottenGottenGotten · 08/04/2019 10:25

So because she didn't word it in a way that you think is normal, that makes her snooty?

You must really hate gollum!

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/04/2019 10:25

No reverse snobbery from me, I'm just wondering why she couldn't just ask her question in a normal manner.

Is it not obvious to you that the person writing this message probably does not have English as their first language?

Eliza9919 · 08/04/2019 10:27

You must really hate gollum!

I don't watch that shit. I hate Harry Potter. Haven't read the books and managed to avoid most of the films.

IdaThoughtso · 08/04/2019 10:28

Oh dear. Bad customer service on your part. I understood her message straight away and as the business owner, you should have not immediately assumed what you assumed. YADBVU.

ecumenicalpatter · 08/04/2019 10:28

I think your (ex) customer has had a lucky escape! Bizarre behaviour.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/04/2019 10:28

Gollum is from Lord of the rings Hmm

DwayneDibbly · 08/04/2019 10:28

Yeah I assumed not first language English also. Oh dear. OP has thrown her toys out of the pram and probably fucked up this person's Masters project. How awful. Sad

MountPheasant · 08/04/2019 10:29

She means ‘I am willing to pay as much as I can afford - not that you could possibly know how much I can afford’

She’s acknowledging that she’s being a bit unreasonable in her request but asking for help.

Sorry OP, it has tickled me a lot that you are cross that you thought she was implying you are too stupid to post her item..and then you’ve kind of proved...

Are you the OP? Or possibly a parody account?

WellThisIsShit · 08/04/2019 10:29

Oops! Never mind, ignore some of the people rather crowing about your mistake, that’s the way threads seem to go these days, enjoying putting the boot in, most unpleasant.

It was written in a round about kind of way, so easy to misinterpret. It took me a few read through’s before I got what she was trying to convey.

Completely salvageable though, contact her with postage options saying the order was cancelled accidentally whilst looking up the options.

You’ll look back and laugh one day Wink

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/04/2019 10:29

You must hate Gollum

*I don't watch that shit. I hate Harry Potter.

Sorry but I had to correct this...Gollum is nothing to do with Harry Potter!

I bet OP isn't coming back, unless she's Eliza in disguise.

AutumnNymph · 08/04/2019 10:30

OP I can see why you read it the way you did BUT even so, it was a massive over reaction.

Really hope you can fix this.

ChicCroissant · 08/04/2019 10:30

If this kind of reaction is typical for you OP, it's time for a bit of reflection.

You are not coming across well here, what are you going to do if she leaves a review because she asked what other postage options were available and you cancelled her order! That's a rather extreme version of my way or the highway!

GottenGottenGotten · 08/04/2019 10:30

Eliza, you are (possibly unintentionally) hilarious.

Thank you for that!

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/04/2019 10:31

OP has clearly not spent as much time on "chat" with overseas customer service centers as some of us have. Although I have to bring out my stock phrase of "in order to help with something else, you must first have helped with something" with monotonous regularity.

IHateUncleJamie · 08/04/2019 10:31

Instead she chose to word her message in a convoluted, round-about way, which lost her the item. So tough shit.

🙄 Could it POSSIBLY be that English is the customer’s second language?

@Eliza you and the OP sound like two peas in a pod. I hope you don’t have an online shop too.

Bringbackthestripes · 08/04/2019 10:31

Expedited. Not that I could possibly know what that means?

Not what she meant. You have misunderstood the poor customer and instead of sending her something she urgently needs she now has to find someone else to supply whatever it is she wants.
Do people leave you reviews? You might have just shot yourself in the foot.

Alsohuman · 08/04/2019 10:31

I had to read it three times to see what could possibly have offended you. Presumably your online shop makes shedloads of money if you can afford to throw orders away like this.

rainbowstardrops · 08/04/2019 10:32

Really??? You cancelled an order just because you didn't like what a customer wrote? (And it was you that misunderstood).
Is your business thriving? Confused

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/04/2019 10:33

ignore some of the people rather crowing about your mistake, that’s the way threads seem to go these days, enjoying putting the boot in, most unpleasant.

I don't think anyone is trying to do that. We are just trying to understand why the Ops first reaction as a business owner is to cancel an order and then post the customers message on a public forum calling her a cheeky cow! That is not how to run a business and if the Op had even an ounce of respect for her customers she would come back, acknowledge she had acted irrationally and apologise to the poor women.

ACPC · 08/04/2019 10:33

Oh please come back opGrin

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/04/2019 10:33

You must really hate gollum

I don't watch that shit. I hate Harry Potter. Haven't read the books and managed to avoid most of the films.

Brilliant!! 😂😂😂

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/04/2019 10:33

As most people have said, you've misunderstood - she was saying you couldn't possibly know how much she can afford.

But never mind, I'm sure she'll get the item from somewhere less sensitive.

BiscuitDrama · 08/04/2019 10:34

Seems perfectly clear that the ‘not what you could know what that is’ refers to the ‘what I can afford’. And that you needed to reply with

£a for first class
£b for 48hr
£c for next day
