Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

I would be livid and be asking for either;

• it be cut, coloured and styled correctly and your next appointments free until it is the length and style you actually requested. Since they have cut it shorter than you asked for and after it has been sorted, it's going to be even shorter, it will require more upkeep, hence more money being formed out due to their care-free mistake.

Or

• sort it out and full refund, too, for the above reason.

Theninjawhinger · 07/04/2019 20:40

Oh bless you, it sounds like a new person has taken over messaging. I would be dreading going back, but I think they sound like they are being helpful now (or they have seen this thread?!) keep us posted, we are all rooting for you!

😱😱😱

Beautyfail · 07/04/2019 22:07

They’ve lopped your sides off - no style would require that other than a mullet !!!

And typical hairdressers trick of the trade whenbthey fuck up - curl and bounce it !!

Dillydallyalltheway · 08/04/2019 07:38

Bless you, you really do need to complain. You obviously showed her the picture that you wanted your hair like. You need to stick to your guns, go back to the salon, see the manager and politely demand that it is corrected, and also get a partial refund. If you don’t let the manager know how upset you are and how badly it has been done, then she/he will be none the wiser and this stylist (!!!) will carry on messing people’s hair up. Good luck, I’m sure they will be able to somehow correct it. Flowers Flowers

Dillydallyalltheway · 08/04/2019 07:42

isawthesign please let us know what happens

AdvancedAvoider · 08/04/2019 08:10

Ladybird11 I'm speechless 😱

MrsJDornan · 08/04/2019 08:16

I hope they fix it for you on Tuesday op Thanks

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/04/2019 08:16

Lady bird
They’ve also done the opposite. An inverted curve when you wanted it going into a v. And this needed cutting not shaving. I’m not even a hairdresser. It looks as though yours will take less time to grow out.

This might help when you talk to them again.

It looks like you may have to have extensions for a while, I feel for you keenly, it’s awful getting a bad haircut!

cms1972 · 08/04/2019 12:26

"Sadly there’s nothing to be done about the length of the sides other than wait for it to grow"
THIS IS NOT TRUE. So don't despair.

I had a similar experience in the past - no hair left at the sides! My hamster cheeks were exposed to the world. I felt devastated. Naked. Insecure. It's hard to find the words to explain how bad you feel when someone does this to you. It's like they cut away all your confidence.

Sunshine Cake, it DOES feel a bit like an assault!
I didn't want to go back and let the same salon/stylist loose on my hair again. My view was, they'd already fucked it up and they couldn't make it any longer. Instead I found a place that did some brilliant extensions.

I was so desperate I would have paid £100s but they weren't as expensive as I'd feared. I only needed them put in at the front, and then they styled them in. The extensions hung beautifully, you really couldn't see the join. Added bonus - they were much more manageable than my ordinary hair!

Finally I felt great. Considerably poorer, but it was worth it... and I never went back to the original salon.

Deadpoet · 08/04/2019 12:44

Jesus. That’s not even close. I’m a hairdresser and seriously have no words for this. Was your “stylist” fully qualified? A junior?
You need to go in with the picture and make a huge complaint to the manager. You asked for a Bob. Those sides are nowhere beat a bob. You need to be demanding a full refund.

MadameAnchou · 08/04/2019 13:10

This is why I haven't been to a hairdresser in years. I'm also nearly 50 and for some reason, hairdressers seem to want to cut my hair too short. I have long hair I can tie up and I like it that way. I'd love to have it trimmed but afraid of some cow who will take too much off because they think it looks better bobbed or short.

poppym12 · 08/04/2019 13:30

A full refund and free extensions including upkeep until it has grown to resemble the hair style that you asked for . Do you have a particularly assertive friend or relative who can go with you as back up if you're uneasy about going returning?

GruciusMalfoy · 08/04/2019 14:19

God, OP, your hair looks like mine when I'm growing out a pixie cut, mullet central. They have totally fucked up, go in there and know that you're totally in the right.

CottonSock · 08/04/2019 14:26

A hairdresser cut a massive hole in mine once. I emailed a pic but no response. I was soft and didn't get a refund (35, not 100 quid). I never went back though.

TooBusyHavingFun · 08/04/2019 14:45

Similar happened to me, I went to Rush and asked for cut and colour (stated dark auburn but not definitely not purple or ginger), came out with luminous purple - it was hideous and cheap looking but was expensive. I complained by email and they wanted to fix it, I agreed to go to another branch. The manager there said the cut was very poor as well, she made a plan of fixing it over several appointments, went from bad to worse and eventually demanded by money back.

BruceAndNosh · 08/04/2019 16:30

I still can't get over how the hairdresser looked at the reference picture with shorter layers at back grading to longer bob at front, and cut a Mullet.
Did you have your head on back to front?

embo1 · 08/04/2019 16:31

Don't just settle for a refund!
Would you be happy letting someone do that to you for free?
They need to sort it out and maintain itfor you until it's as long as the picture, pay for extensions or pay for someone else to sort it out for you.

3luckystars · 08/04/2019 16:39

It's brutal.

I have had to complain before, I went in and sat down and said nothing.

Let your hair do the talking.

I would recommend you doing the same, say nothing and let them talk, but don't let them touch your hair with a scissors again.

Get your money back and buy a hat.

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 08/04/2019 16:44

Thanks all, I’m feeling really nervous about going back in tomorrow and need to take more time off work to go. I’d taken annual leave for the original cut. Fingers crossed, I’m so worried it will end with them saying the cut is fine. The hairdressers asked me if I wanted layers at the front and I said ‘well if that picture has layers then yes, I want it to look like the picture’ and now I’m worried they might say I asked for the short sides.
It’s still mullet like 3 days on but doesn’t look so bad when I clip the sides. The colour is awful too but I haven’t mentioned that to them, I may do tomorrow.

I hope you have a happy ending OP :)

3luckystars · 08/04/2019 16:51

Say nothing, honestly say very little.
Do not be embarrassed just take deep breaths.

You should actually be getting compensation for that cut, not just a refund.

If they say there is nothing wrong with the cut, tell them to use your photo on the Facebook page as advertising so.

Or you could sit outside the door in a deck chair and ask people if they can spot the difference.

You will definitely get a refund. And maybe some free products. I hope it grows back quickly.
